Amazing the difference a coat of primer makes. she is starting to show her full potential and is a credit to your attention to detail and perseverance
Thank you for supporting Tony. He has worked only with some family help. His wife passed just before he was finishing. Having little funds he had to build more parts of his boat then most. A gentle soul.
Hi, old painters trick. Tuck a paper towel into the grove of the paint can to keep the grove clean when you're pouring paint out of the can. Pull it out when you're ready to put the lid back on the can
Wow, that stick-it-to-me coating really transformed the cockpit look. It was nice to see you all enjoying it for a snack or meal, whatever it was. It was cool to watch the fiberglass get installed around and over the hinges. Hopefully that will make it easier for the water to flow towards the drain holes much easier than it was before adding the transitional layers.
So satisfying to see the paint go on (or primer…) great job it’s coming together nicely.
Also, Happy Birthday Janni! 🎉
I think a lot of people probably underestimate the keenest eye for detail in the design you have exercised. The attention to detail in designing the gutters - sized perfectly for the paint roller was just genius.😉
She will be glorious.
Happy birthday Janni! Great work as always 👌
Great to see you celebrating the all the milestones along the way.
Happy Birthday Janni! Boat looks great!
You mentioned the instrument panel. If I might make a suggestion. I've been sailing for 60 years, and like most people, I have mounted the autopilot head somewhere 'convenient' in the cockpit. The problem is that wherever it is mounted, it's not always convenient. Sitting in the shade, the head is always somewhere else, ie, in the sun, in the rain or whatever. For the last 10 years or so I have mounted a head in a small cedar box with silicone buttons on the bottom, and used the enclosed wire to make a 'poor man's remote'. You can park it out of the sun, which they hate, take it to the stern quarter, or forward in the shade of the main. I tie a knot in the wire inside the box as a stress relief against pulling on it, glue it watertight, paint it, et voila', a portable remote. very convenient. Yes there's a wire, but so much more convenient
I been watching Tony for years, hes an awesome guy.
Wow! You guys definitely checked a few boxes off the list this week. Little bites big project getting it done as usual. Great video and music as always. Your film and editing team (ha!) do an amazing job! Happy Birthday!
Happy belated birthday, Yanica. I hope you had a nice day. Duracell's cockpit looks great with a coat of primer. She's going to look amazing with the final coats of paint.
Painting the hinges is a land lord special. Must have felt awesome.
A very Happy Birthday to you Janni ! Always an awesome job. It looks great.
Duracell is looking great the paint work has given it a really classic look A happy birthday to your wife
I'm not sure how to describe this. Before, your eyes were drawn to spots all over the area. Now, with one single color, it looks huge. I'm amazed at the transformation.
I've been watching from beginning of refit I believe you are bringing The SPIRIT BACK FOR MICHAEL PLANT Looking better and better Every Week Thank You
Happy birthday Janni!!
Amazing progress Matt!
It’s midnight (thursday) here in croatia and i’ve been looking forward all day to watch another episode of yours. You both such an inspiration that keeps me going with my boat refit. Truly amazing. And happy birthday to Janni🎉
thank you and keep up the good work on your own project.
Wow! What a difference a coat of primer/paint makes. I bet it is starting to feel like your getting somewhere. Happy birthday Janneke!🎉
Shew-weeet looking great folks, looking great! That white coat makes it pop.
Not a sailor, but I love project, boat and your dream and the Pacific Northwest.
... what a difference that primer made ... she's gonna be a looker when finished ... also, loved the choices of background music this week ... and a big Happy Birthday to your bride ...
Nothing like a deadline to focus the mind and get some big progress made! Looks great!
Congratulations on finishing the cockpit primer and all the supporting bits and pieces Matt - cool job... And a huge Happy Birthday Janni - I hope that you had an awesome day... Thanks for all the great videos - I am really enjoying your journey! Have a great week 🎉🙂👍

Many happy returns Janneke, what a great spot for a birthday celebration. There will be some changes in the view in years to come....
Great to see the progress!!
Well done !
Thanks for the shout out to Tony !! He built a great boat !!
Fair winds ⛵️
Amazing how a coat of paint can make a piece quilt look like one unified thing, and what beautiful thing it has become! I cannot imagine the thrill of seeing this cockpit painted, also because you guys will spend so many amazing hours, days, months, years enjoying the world from that very spot. Again, I wish you guys incommensurable happiness sailing this incredible boat. Meanwhile keep fibergglassing and carbon-fibering the fuck out of Duracell! : ⁰ ) and don't forget to have fun while you are at it.
Haha, will do! And thanks.
No way out of that... ; ⁰ )
love your passion Matt!!! Great job and keep on!!!
Been watching ya for a bit. Nice job.
I restored a 1963 mark twain inboard. 97th spray mould boat ever made, transom, deck, tanks, seats, trim tabs iron duke, outdrive, glass and gel coat, and a Bimini top
I had to sell it for 750 bucks,
Trying to fiberglass here too. Only 7 degree atm.
❤ the video. We'll done. Learned a lot from your videos.
Mate as an apprentice boat builder this is absolutely amazing quality work just wow! You don’t see stuff like this on TH-cam much!!
Nice little jam session. Steady as she goes is the way to win a war but battles are won by going full-send. No other way to win a Stanley Cup. Or launch a boat. Go Bills!
Looking better and better every viewing, keep the faith!
When we painted the deck on the Donovan 30, we made the storage shed a big paint booth and set a plank for the spray painter above it, athwartship, and slowly pulled the boat forward on its trailer so the primed areas weren't contaminated. Worked great. We used Awlgrip matterhorn white with te Awlgrip grit, 50% fine 50% medium, but at twice the recommended per quart. That gives a very grippy surface that is also gentle on your knees, knucles, and clothes. I recommend doing a test surface to determine how much to use.
Making such amazing progress!! Thixo pro is a game changer - nicely done!
Beautiful " Fiberglass Matt" your design pops in the cockpit! I spent 10 years rebuilding an 1884 inner city brick row house. Every hour you put in is so valuable. Each week I see you doing the same. Very impressive. Happy Birthday Janni!!!!!!Go for it!
Wow! That cockpit looks really good! Good job setting a deadline and crushing it!!
Wow looking great isn’t it , great video once again and a very happy Birthday Janni, 🎉🎉, Graham L
Nice job Matt, Happy Birthday Girl!

Janni, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, or, how we say it ABBER BIRD DAY!! Absolutely amazing what a coat of paint will do, that cockpit is friggin huge!!!
Thanks so much for the shout out to Tony and Tapatya, I’ve been watching from the beginning, what a great guy, he’s been through a lot and come out on top!
Tony's project is such a amazing achievement. And he's been doing videos almost weekly for many years! And he's such a nice guy! Hoping to see him some day with his boat on Baltic sea!
And congrats Janni! 🎈
Oh, I didn’t get my invitation. Happy birthday, Janni, love you happy happy birthday!
Thank you Mimi🥰😘
Looks great!
It's really coming together now, good to finally see paint going on..the sharp corners in the cockpit are a little concerning, those could cause some serious damages if someone falls when out on the high seas..
Paint makes it look so real! Great job.
Its looks so nice now its going to get better i can see thnks for the long waitings for the painting anyways much love from kenya 🇰🇪
Nice work!!
Looking great. I suspect that the little things take up as much time as the big ones sometimes. Thanks for the video 😁😁👍👍
Great work as always
Looks excellent! Nice work!
Now I am not a boat person and i have only been on a boat on a lake for a day... after watching your videos for almost a year now I'm very impressed
I hope one day I can travel out there when its in the water just to see it with my own eyes
If i had enough funds to build a boat I would hire you for tech support
you have made watching your videos cool to watch and I have not missed one yet
Thank You for sharing your boat with us and me
Looks fantastic. Keep it up!!
Looks amazing!
Coming along nicely
Well done.
Great video
Bloody nice work guys 👌 super happy for ya’s!
That excited look he gets!
it's looking good!!
"O Glorious Sanding" ... Wait ...wrong channel.
More progress! Looks amazing! Keep rolling Duracell crew! 👍👍
You asked a while back about paint color for the hull. White is obviously the most common, but I've always found that my head turns when I see a deep Navy blue hull.
Looking good! Love watching the transformation. You're going to love sailing on that boat.
What patience you have. Love watching your progress.
Great job!
Looking good! Happy birthday Janni!
Happy birthday, Yanni! I hope you have a great year! And Matt, the primer looks awesome and indicates solid progress on getting it done. Cheers!
For me it's like magic the second the painting starts - all the prep work pays off when you look back on a job well done. For me this is the most satisfying part apart from actually using the built item. That cockpit is looking so good! Love your work Matt. Happy birthday to Mrs video editor. Hugs from Cape Town South Africa.
If you pour your mixed epoxy onto a large diameter shallow metal tray you will add to the laminating time. The added surface area decreases the rate of exotherm - it helps in warmer weather.
Happy Birthday, Janni ! Best wishes from Montana !
Feels like some big progress this episode. Really exciting!
Impressive work as always! Hope to see you sail soon.
Gratulerer med dagen Janneke 🤗 for me is birthday every week you launch a episode 🤩 amazing work
