AJ....just wanted to let you know, raced 2 classes today down in TX and after hearing you non stop keep talking about arms up and being in the attack position constantly I tried to apply that to my riding today. I felt unquestionably I was riding the best I have all year. Helped me carrying more speed both in and out of corners. The attack position helped my entry and the arm position helped my exit. Thanks, your videos are making riders faster every Sunday. Please keep them coming. (Oh also I didn’t sit till I was past the last braking bump. Huge help)
These videos are fantastic. I really like that you're explaining the flaws in technique and going into details on how to overcome them. Most videos just show content and expect the untrained eye to see what's right or wrong. Thank you!!!
I'm a newer rider and I always watch your videos and I always remember things you say when I'm riding. You're a good teacher. Keep doing what you're doing on here!
Another terrific instructional session. Yur studs are lucky. At the end, when I saw that pink boot come into the frame, all I could do was sigh and say to myself "all righty then"... Impressive.
What you can do also its to use the front brake in the rut LITTLE so the front tire dont get over the rut. didnt work all time but have help me couple of times!
Keep doing this man I love when you go to tomahawk because I go to the same track man so keep it up with these videos and you should make a video on how to hit that 100 ft jump thanks
Great video. I am def gonna take some of your advice and apply it at the track. Love how it feels as if it’s me you’re talking to. Pretty sure everyone watching these can relate. I have huge issues with corners due to looking down and being scared.
I have the bad habit of pulling my clutch while breaking. I'm on a 2020 YZ250 2T with little engine breaking. I try wheel chatter which mostly stalls but when it works I seem to roll through the turn fast But still feels faster when blasting the 2 stroke with clutch work. I have been listening and practicing all your info religiously, especially working on cornering. Thank you for your efforts brotha. Please come teach in Salt Lake. We have Jordan River OHV, OCA and Mountain West tracks all within 45 minutes from each other.
thank you please keep making these this helped a lot i notice when i hit turns one gear up its a lot smoother and like you said i can lean the bike over more and have more confidence
Thanks for sharing, i am learning to ride mx without the jumps at the age of 50 and ruts are intimidating. I crashed 3 times yesterday in ruts. I am going to get some lessons hopefully one day 😁
So many of my issues are covered in your videos. Some issues I've addressed this season. Some need more work. If you come back to Wisconsin next year I will definitely take your class
i love that you mentioned the small tidbit about focusing too much to a point because whenever im riding like crap i realize im doing a whole lot of that. this last year when id do my warm up laps i try to start off a little faster because when i ride slow i ride like crap. i had trouble with right handed turns for whatever reason and actually focused so hard on them for a couple weeks that my left handed turns became bad lol. Luckily logan karnow and the clason brothers are local so i watched them and figured it all out. i get to wait until may~ to ride again because ohio has winter
Down shifting without the clutch will help keep load under the bike and the suspension actively working. I’ve gotten bad at holding the clutch and coasting through braking bumps into the turn only using the brakes to slow down. My big concern was damaging the bottom end by down shifting under load and then having to fork out a lot more cash more frequently.
Hey AJ I'm loving the way you get your point across in these videos. Could you please help me out with another video on ruts particularly on precision of front and rear wheel placement entering a rut (I can't get the front in the right place to get the rear to enter the rut) and how to set up for and what to look for in a rutted corner as you prepare to turn in. Hope this makes sense to you.
You could be struggling with that for a variety of reasons. Hard for me to pinpoint it without seeing you ride but hopefully one of my future videos will help something click
I need to work on getting a new back brake,, I never used my front so much but I needed it alot of down shifting but I can also work that front brake way better now.
Love your videos! Do you recommend a short or long wheel base I just changed my hearing from a 48 to a 49on my fc 450. I find it either a short wheel base or long one with my new chain.
I'm a pretty experienced rider but ruts are intimidating and I tend to not lean the bike enough so I go over the top and crash. It's weird because I don't have a problem leaning the bike on berms.
you can totally see he was looking farther ahead as he gained confidence.....in beginning his eyes were pinned to front fender.....ruts are a bitch, the most intimidating thing for a mx rider for sure.....I used to ride so cal when all pros were out at glen helen and pala and they would make these 40-70yd long ruts and they were scary as hell to stay in one that long.....I went down plenty trying to follow Langston thru them.....I got up and saw all the pros waiting for me to get my yardsale off the track....embarrassing!
So… what if I just train myself to never take the leg off unless it is necessary? Bc I went to the track for the first time and tried to keep feet on pegs and breathe as much as possible.. but when I do take it off it is to make it a muscle memory to making it go in and tight to the fender.
Hey AJ Quick Question: When it comes to 2 Strokes would you say it's better to pull the clutch during the braking phase? Because the engine brake of 2strokes isn't that strong and actually i'ts not good for 2strokes if you're engine braking. Hope you will answer thanks!
quick question, what is wrong with putting the leg out? I've always been taught to stick my leg out. is that something I need to work on and stop doing?
Nothing wrong with it, if you have up in the right place. The problem is, no one I’ve ever watched ride (other than some pros), put their foot in the correct position when it comes off the peg. To simplify things, I like to get riders confident just leaving both feet on
Hey aj, 2 things. one that gorpro 8, do you worry about that front glass shattering with roost or do you think its strong enough. Also im saving some money rn actually hopefully for a couple hours lessons from you. How much time in advance do your usually need for lessions? it would prob be a lot of basic things that no one has ever told me as im the first in my generation to ride. I mean I love these videos you put out and I would like to think they help but idk and lets be honest who wouldnt want to spend a couple hours with you lol.
I’m just crossing my fingers it won’t get shattered by roost. I have a glass screen protector the lens to help. Cool, you can reach out one week ahead usually. I can’t guarantee I will have availability but most of my private lessons are booked 5-7 days in advance
@@AjCatanzaro sounds good, the tracks youve done them at are like 5 hours from me so besdies me saving some money I need to make time free. You do it during winter? idk what the snows like by the track and if they stay open. All the tracks by me close
@@AjCatanzaro So what you're saying is that it's worse for your engine to keep the clutch pulled in when you downshift than it is when you don't? I'm only referring to the transmission, not the bike in its entirety.
Please continue making these! You are very well spoken and easy to understand. Keep up the good work bro!
Bailey Hauck thank you!
I think too
Easy way to teach
@@AjCatanzaro do circle ruts help?

Favourite one so far AJ. These are super useful bits of content, you’ve really found a great niche ✌🏻

Love it! Good job applying new techniques on race day, that isn’t easy to do!
Stuck inside during these storms so I’m going back and re watching all the OG AJ videos ✊🏼✊🏼

excellent instruction ... one thing that helps me settle the bike in ruts is weighting the outside peg
same, Ive found that it keeps your body from trying to move over the bike and keeps you centered therefore making you lean and committing.
Man the whip at the end was awesome. thanks for the ride!!
best training videos i've seen
this is easily my biggest problem when i ride and this helped so much!!!! thank you!!!!
Another terrific instructional session. Yur studs are lucky. At the end, when I saw that pink boot come into the frame, all I could do was sigh and say to myself "all righty then"... Impressive.
Thank you for the private lessson play list
You sound very professional! This makes me want to watch every video! Now I just want to get out and ride.
These are fantastic. I've not been on dirt in years and now I'm wanting to again.
I love the slow mo whip.Your great at teaching and hope to see you around my neck of the woods for a lesson.
This video is Gold! Hope y'all didn't miss the "squatting" technique when braking...rocked MY world!

Mark Winney just a testament to how much you can improve in one of my sessions 😂😂
One of my biggest struggles. Thanks for the tips AJ. Best of luck in 2021 supercross.
Awesome content as usual. Some are great teachers and not great riders some are the opposite. You do both very well.

Yes braking is critical I would suggest telling them the consequences of not having your leg out right it can lead to a broken ACL
just find out about this channel... where have u been all my life :D
awesome content! just keep making more of these :)

Great tips. Hopefully we can do a training with you sometime 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Good shit bro.... I'm training my daughter on a crf50 right now!!! 👊😎
You should expand on the no clutch shifting thats something I worry about
A real teacher!)
dude your the best understand you really good
I always have troubles in ruts and tight flat turns. Im gonna try the whole feet on the pegs thing next time out
Great content! 👍🏻
Just a quick lil flex at the end
Thought that last jump scene was old mate doing the training - and about to get snapped... Could breath again when I realised it was AJ

Sweet video
4:07 you said "no clutch when we down shift either " does that not mess the bike up doing that? And does that count for every turn or hills

No, never want to pull the clutch in while braking. It won’t harm your bike, I promise. I make bikes last forever
Did you enjoy the video?

Hey AJ would u normally use your clutch to drive through the rutted corner like that?
Does the not using the clutch while braking and wheel chatter apply to 2 strokes too?
nice
i 2nd that last comment!
Have you asked him to adjust his line coming into that corner? I think you were entering with a wide arc, and he was very shallow.
"No clutch when you brake at all, no clutch when you downshift" - applicable for 2 strokes too?
Yep!

It’s hit or miss when you get into Dec, Jan, Feb. we’ve been getting lucky lately
I got told to just ride through the rut and let the bike do it’s thing🤷♂️
I understand that engine braking is more effective if you don't use the clutch when you downshift, but isn't that bad for the engine?
People may argue that it is. But I make bikes last forever. Far longer than slower riders who brake incorrectly with the clutch pulled in
