    Great looking fly ,try adding white on the belly and finish up the belly with yell or orange , you can tie the top fuzzy with chartreuse ,lime green, olive green with white, yellow, orange on the belly .
    I tie using these colors for pike with black bodies and large holographic, I use mostly 4" to 9" flies these days ,unless I'm carp fishing then I use white dry flies, tan sculpens

    Like the fly at start bud. Have you ever tried replacing the S.F fibres with other materials. I now use Kanekalon (artifical hair for making dreads) almost identical, adds loads of bulkiness to the fly without adding to many materials. Save yourself a fortune bud 😊

    Where I live any Pike under 8 lbs in weight is a jack or jack pike. Some places (& fishing clubs) set this limit at 5 lbs and some as high as 10lbs. Happy enough to hear any small pike being called a jack, not so comfortable hearing what are clearly jacks being called pike. Guess its just what we get used to? Enjoy your videos, camera position and angles are spot on.

    • @peelindrag113
      @peelindrag113  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some people around here have different names for small pike as well, but to me they are all pike. No need for different names based off size. I'm glad you like the content though, many more videos to come!

    Nice tying. Even with the stinger hook there is still a lot of hookless fly beyond the bend. I find that when the fly is moving slow it gives the game fish lots of time to size up the fly. They end up swiping at the rear. You may feel the weight of her before the fur pulls from her maw but hookups are rare. Maybe it's a reactionary strike, a territorial strike, or an investigative strike but the net result accomplishes little more than a refusal. If they really wanted it they would grab it more towards the head and you'd be in business! The only solution I've come up with so far is to shorten the tail. I know it doesn't give you the large profile you want for pike but there are no more free fly tastings for the ones that strike.

    It’s great how you show tying the fly! If people want more detail and instruction there are other videos for that. Very smart of you. Maybe try a smaller profile fly for those pike when you get rejected. I’m thinking a mickey fin, big wooly bugger, dark spruce fly? Still waiting to see for the topwater flyfishing pike. Keep up the good work!

      I'm glad you like it! I think trying a smaller fly is a great idea. I'd like to do some top water fishing, but I've been struggling enough to get them to hit a subsurface bait recently so that'll probably have to wait until the bite picks up.

    Greetings! I stumbled upon your videos a couple of weeks ago and have been watching more of them when I can! Great job on your videos and the fishing. I have been really enjoying the pike on a fly videos! Your videos are inspiring me to get dust off my fly rods use them more often! I'm curious about the pike fishing though. From looking at your site I have realized your are fishing in Michigan and pike are native to your waters, correct? I see that your catching pike in the summer. What the average water temps for the river you are fishing? What is a warm tolerable temperature range for the pike in the summer, or do you not really have to worry about that in Michigan?

    • @peelindrag113
      @peelindrag113  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad to hear you've been enjoying the videos! And yes, Pike are native in Michigan. I've never checked the water temp but I'd guess it's somewhere in the 70's. I fish for them in any temps, but the higher temps tend to make them a little more lethargic and for that reason I try to get them in quick and release them fast as well.

    • @peelindrag113
      @peelindrag113  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never fly fished for carp in a lake, but here is a link to one of my faviorate carp flies. th-cam.com/video/Xhx9666Ammw/w-d-xo.html&list=PLbDs8acAbvq5gCgqvj6-6dcNf--llgIm-&index=10
      The red tail makes it easier for sight fishing, but in a lake the carp may move around more which could make it harder to catch them.

      @brendansheehan6192 6 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @1024cgf

    I just started fishing for river pike it has been off and on here. Have you ever thrown big bucktails? Do you have any suggestions on good lakes for pike? Thanks!

    • @peelindrag113
      @peelindrag113  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've used them, but my number one bait is jerkbaits or some kind of lure that suspends. That way you can work it as slow or fast as you want in small little pockets and keep it in the strike zone much longer than something like a spoon, spinnerbait or bucktail which you need to keep moving in order to give action. Not to say other baits won't work, but jerkbaits seem to work better for that reason. I've only read and heard about some good pike lakes, but since I don't have a boat I don't get to fish lakes for pike too often, unfortunately.

    You're gonna snap your rod holding it that high amigo. Also when are you going to have me build you one? You need something flashy if you're casting flashy streamers

    If you ever get down to fish the Australian rivers, don't make a mistake and let European Carp back into the river. It is a criminal offence here, as they are so out of control.
