William Morris said "Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful". After watching your videos, I believe your philosophy for making tools and jigs is that you want both usefulness AND beauty. This is not only a very useful tool, the care and craftsmanship that you put into creating it makes it beautiful as well. Watching your videos is always a pleasure. Thank you for continuing to post them!
The best... themselves: the cleanest workshop, the best hand-made tools, the most careful workmanship, the nicest appearance (of both the workshop and the products), the best creativity, the best usefulness - I can count the "most" endlessly. Careful preparation of materials and tools, calm but very thoughtful and methodical work, accuracy, order, diligence. It is 100% certain that the effect will be perfect. Great movies, I don't hesitate to name you: master!!!
My grandfather was a master carpenter, he would have been god sent with this guys tools. Perfection at it's best in this video. I'll be making an all aluminum one for my metal fabrication. Great idea.
I sleep poorly. I try to make my house beautiful during the day. i know i am an amateur. At night when I can't sleep I watch these demonstrations. No shouting, no music, just the sound of clean machines and craftsmanship. I watch with admiration and great appreciation. When a beautiful piece of work is delivered again, I am so happy. I have sleep again and I know what to expect tomorrow, a lot of work, but I feel good and go to sleep and my thought is: I will get that garden staircase level, if not tomorrow then the day after tomorrow ”. and with a satisfied smile I fall asleep.
Who is this person?! This person has taken woodworking and turned it into an art form. Amazing shop. Love to see the shop and videos on how to make tools of this caliber. Wow! Over a million subscribers - and no surprise. Notably, this appears to be a highly efficient shop utilizing a small space. Impressive!

That trick shot at the end!!! I love this guy. No intention of making 90% of the beautiful things he creates, but I love watching. I like seeing that DIY router table getting used.
You keep showing me ways to do things in clever ways that I had not thought of before. In the previous video you used the two first holes to make space out the third one, in this one you use a spacer block... I like your projects, and bought the plans for the 6-in-1 drill and panel saw. Now, to find time and space to actually build them...
Really neat and well executed tool build. It makes me happy someone at your skill level suffers from the same affliction as me, NEVER being able to mix the right amount of epoxy. With enough left over to do the job again twice! Shall ever be know as JB's law!
This is _Exactly_ my problem with center finders.... and for all these years I thought it was only me! (LOL) It's a pretty nifty solution... now I am wondering if there are other ways to solve this and maybe something that can expand to handle other sizes of larger stock... wow... you've got me thinking... and that's probably not a good thing in my case 😁 LOL. well, maybe you'll come up with another brilliant solution for that? Anyway... Wonderful presentation as always, and thanks so much for the video!
Your videos are always useful, even when you don't need a product, as there are many good technical solutions. I am always looking forward to your new projects.
Another alternative would be to simply make the original tool longer. However that could be a pain in general and this looks like an excellent solution.
I mean, that center punch, just wow! Never seen that. Not sure it was required here, though, since you did use that spacer trick on the drill press to get the equidistant outside holes. The exact location of the center hole didn’t matter at all.
Otra clase magistral del maestro,la perfección absoluta elevada al máximo nivel,un saludo cordial y por supuesto un gran like desde Narón, Galicia (España)
Let me clarify my post I made recently. I was not stating how the center finder was made, but the item he used to identify the hole locations with the cross hairs. This item is very unique and I haven’t seen this item any where in the states.
Normally I do not care for non narrated build videos, but yours are just so good I still watch. Is the wall saw station something you built or purchased?
I am always fascinated the work you do and the and the simplicity of your jigs. I would like to know where did you get your center maker and the manufacturer of the unit. Keep up the great work.
Great work as always! However... I did find one thing that can be improved, and it’s the pencil holder itself. This one is designed for one specific pencil and can’t use different marking tools like regular pencils or tools to scratch. And also the pencil itself gets pushed to one side. One way to solve that would be if the pencil holder was in the shape of a “V” pointing towards one of the ends and the screw pushed from the opposite side wedging it into the “V”. But of course I’m just nitpicking hehe. I’m always amazed by your craftsmanship. Keep up the good wood work! :)
That would not mitigate the effect of using pencils with different diameters. Smaller diameters would ride deeper into the 'V', and that would offset the point from being centered between the two end guides. This kind of center finder will only work if the point of the pencil or scribe is exactly centered on a line between the centers of the end guides. So instead of a 'V' you would need something like an iris diaphragm that can accommodate different diameters but keep them centered to a specific point. I do not think that is really practical, but maybe someone has a clever idea how to do it.
X JWill you are absolutely right! However, the most common way to deal with this kind of error is to simply make a mark with the tool riding on one direction, then coming from the other side and if there is any noticeable difference between both passes, you simply split the difference by eye or drill in between the lines. After all... nobody needs to be “that precise” hehe. But thanks for the observation.

In any case, thank you for what you're doing. You have a huge patient. It shows.

Such a clever little thing, perfect.
big!!!!!!!! grande genio.
I really appreciate the video, but the answer is an optical center punch and measure from both ends of the block when placing holes
That is the fanciest center jig I've seen! I like it! I use one made with two wood dowels - works good enough for me :-)
