    Probably one of my favorite videos you’ve posted in the last couple years. Absolutely loved watching your process and how you’re never afraid to keep trying stuff until you find the right spot and the right deer to chase. You’re absolutely right, you don’t need to kill something to have a great hunt and this is a perfect example of that. Lets go Brandon!!!

    I got my first buck and first deer and first with a bow this season. I did the leg work but truly this is really Dan’s deer because his wisdom is what put me in the right spot to make the shot. I’m getting a little plaque and the big buck serial killer will have a credit on there. Thanks Dan I hope you become bigger than Fred Bear in the hunting community because your doing more than just hunting,your the mentor to hundreds if not thousands of hunters just like me that are just “regular joes”.

    Seems to be a strange spot for a mature buck to me. There was hiking trails surrounding the two of you. One circling the whole bottom perimeter of the point and then turning back following the water towards the corn field. The second day there was that same one running through that bottom and another running the entire ridgeline coming off the point of that ridge. You was about at the 800' range on a 1000' ridge. So somewhere around 200' from that ridge top and trail. Seems to be a lot of human odor if those hiking trails are regularly used. Obviously the sign was there, but I would have never even considered going there to scout. Btw don't worry, I will not intrude on your spot. I know exactly the spot the two of you were,but I'm definitely not the type to take someone else's spot. There isn't a deer big enough for me to have the guilt of feeling like I took it from someone else. I prefer being a little deeper and a lot further away from the human activities anyhow. I'll be back up there November 4th through the 12th next year hunting about 9 miles to the west. We've decided to catch the rut this upcoming year even though the last week of October was productive.
    Btw with the landowner and his 4-wheeler. We learned quickly that the locals do not like out of state hunters. It was very very difficult to get any information. Everything they had to say was negative about the property. The amish has killed all of them, there's two many snakes, everyone drives 4 wheelers, all your stuff will get stolen, etc. We literally heard every excuse in the book telling us that we were going to have a bad experience. I can't blame the locals because Ohio gets hit hard and I would honestly be the same way if that was my local stomping grounds. We had more help from non hunting local women than anything and it was almost like they had to whisper. Almost as if they were going to get punished for telling us that the hunting was decent.

    • @thehuntingbeast
      @thehuntingbeast  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      this aint the 1st time I found a mature buck living inbetween or adjacent to hiking trails... The bed we found was actually in a spot to monitor the hiking trail... If I had pre-scouted this and new where the bed room was, the kill spot might change to right along the hiking trail where they accept and expect human activity. Great response.

    I've been hunting down there for a while "low deer density " is an understatement. Imo they over harvest does . There's giants and you'll see them but they're pros at dodging hunters. I'm not fond of the fact that they let kids go out during the rut with rifles and blow up the woods after youth weekend always seems harder .

      @MatthewCavalieri 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@billmcconnell1737 I got plenty of deer as a kid I never needed an unfair advantage over everyone else . The youth day creates other problems poaching , less people in the woods for the traditional opening day , and spooking alot of the deer before everyone else gets a chance . They're everyone's deer . Same set of rules for everyone. Teaching kids to be poachers isn't the way to encourage future hunters .More deer in the woods breeds more hunters.

    • @aw4088
      @aw4088 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MatthewCavalieri youth hunts do not encourage poaching,if you say that because of the adults using the gun to shoot deer on those days its a very good chance that adult isn't teaching the youth ethics to start with. So it's not the youth season that's encouraging poaching it's the adults!

    Dude I live in Ohio. Walking these hills are hard. Real hard. And like you said not that many deer like you'd think. Maybe because of its lore so everyone travels heres so it gets pounded hard. Over hunted. I mean there's nothing to do out here its a boring state, thats all there is to do is hunt. Lot of locals lot of out of states. Not saying this to be funny but don't get ur hopes up. Better off going to KY or Indiana honestly. These deer in Ohio are nocturnal. Everyone I've come across. If u can't get on private don't even waste ur time. Good luck yall.

    Hunted Southern Ohio hills in Washington county for a few years now and I live in WV. I've ran into a local trying to mess my hunt up with an atv because he saw my car parked at the end of the road he lives on. He actually drove it on Wayne National Forest land tho. It's a shame that some locals have an ownership mentality over the public land they live by. I actually posted about it on Facebook public Ohio group and most the Ohio resident were just plain spiteful saying then don't come to Ohio, and stay in your own state as if they own Ohio and the National land. It's okay tho I still got one of "their" big bucks this year. It's some tough hunting in those public hills.

    Me and a group of guy i know went to Kentucky for 11 days. I moved in a little to close and jumped a giant buck out of his bed and never saw him again . So in the end I came home empty handed but learned alot . Time for me to get out and start scouting.

    Some of Dan's most influential videos for me were about reading rub lines. Helped me get a buck on some public where I had never been able to capitalize. I would love to see him make a playlist, or revisit that topic. Love ya Dan. Merry Christmas!

    I hunted the Blue Ridge Mountains in VA for a long time. Then I got divorced,that’s a story I won’t bore ya with. We I learned hunting in those mountains was travel routes between bedding and food or water the either ran the sides of the ridges or they would run the tops of those ridges. It took a while but eventually I found that that applied to young bucks and most does. The big bucks would always be below their routes. An old timer told me a mature buck will never silhouette himself. Like he would be likely to do on the tops. I appreciate your videos and the knowledge you are kind enough to share! Merry Christmas brother!!

    You were hunting public land in southern Ohio, and found a cornfield that ‘not many people know about’? LOL
    Since everyone has made hunting public ground the new cool thing to do, with the combination of OnX and similar…..everyone knows everything. There are no secrets. It is over. Yes, OnX is a great tool and public land is open to all, it has ruined many good places that locals used to hunt when they had a couple hours after work or on a weekend.

    • @thehuntingbeast
      @thehuntingbeast  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Onx certainly has made a big impact on my hunting, and has made hunting and finding spots much easier... With that said, there are still spots that get over looked or are disguised or listed different than other public properties.

    Love DAN'S VIDEOS BUT, HAVE TO SAY MAYBE HIS BUDDY HAD TOO MANY CAMERAS OUT IN ONE LOCATION. i think the bigger bucks had him patterened instead of him pattering the big bucks. They won't tolerate pressure like that.

    • @thehuntingbeast
      @thehuntingbeast  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think cell cams and camera drops that are checked from a distance or checked annually and rarely ever have human intrusion only do harm for the 1st 30 days or so...

    I watch you and you only. But you can’t do a 130 to 140 here. I live near Cadillac Mi and it takes me a season to get 2 bucks like that killed with 50 days of hunting all day. I learned to hunt as a child from a Primos team member who was amazing, but I’ve also owned a cabin in Hocking county for 13 years. A 130 down their is a nice 2 year old. I guess my point is call or email me and come hunt with me for four days in mid Northern Michigan. Google Cadillac Michigan and I only hunt Federal. I see 100 4 year old deer. I’ll hush I’m just saying it can’t be done anywhere. You live in the biggest buck state in the world.. but I also personally believe you are even better than John Eberheart. I’m serious if you want to come up. I have 20 bucks on my wall and love Ohio but my new passion is killing that 130 where almost no one can here. Every year. Man what I could learn from you, and if you shoot a 130 to 140 I’ll pay you $1000 cash. But I want to video with you

    Howdy Dan, I'm from eastern Ohio and the public land over here is mostly old strip mine land . It's pretty tricky to hunt because it's unbelievably thick but there is good deer here.

    Would enjoy spend a day just scouting with you, because I feel I'm always missing the boat, I have shot some nice bucks with bow, nothing that would compare to what you shoot, but I'm turning 62 this November and know that time is ticking. I acess to 120 acres of private, my buddy and I are the only ones who hunt it. I also know a spot I use to hunt on public that I have take some nice bucks that would be right up your alley Dan. I live in wis if you ever want to hunting I'm game, but I'm sure there are a million guys who would jump at that opportunity. I live in appleton wis, and hunt private in merril wis, the public I hunted is in Brussels wis.

    Man I can't stand people like that that happens to me somuch every season here in Indiana were I'm from it just makes u so mad u want to just climb down walk out and give him a shot at the title so to speak know what I mean lol I mean there's somuch hunters hateing other hunters anymore it's embarrassing it use to never be like that . To me the success of other fellow hunters is just as exciting as if I pulled the trigger if there good people that is. Guys like that one on the 4wheeler I wish nothing but the worse in hunting for him .. I mean come what was he thinking, real mature of him I remember my first bear to lol. Last thing, come guys at hunters were supposed to help each other out why is everything such a big competition.. one one thing sometimes people trying to hurt u like that can help u sometimes accidently , long store shot biggest poacher around lives right night to my house and my 12 acres I could see his house from were I shot the buck he been trying to shoot with a rifle after dark for sometime. I shit him with my bow 11 25 am in the morning November 4th 15 pt typical 12 point 6x6 frame almost 32 inch beams long story short I now have the county record for my county in Indiana for the biggest typical whitetail ever shot by bow for that county so I thought that was kinda cool lol I'd love to send u pictures but I don't even know how to on here. I'm not very technical smart lol. Good luck to yh out there this fall

      Hmm, I'm still not getting an HD option on this video. All your other videos it is fine and other channels as well, just this video has the issue. And it seems to be on my end something is messing up as I do not see anyone else mentioning it in the comments. Time for some "scouting" of the issue.

Made This property but up to Public land What but the access to that land is on my property There is no other way to get there I wish I could get some help on exactly what to do but by watching these videos I learned something new every time. Thanks again.

    Deer in Ohio are smart. So here is a little advice for anyone hunting it. When you find rubs. Dont walk up to them and sit down while rubbing your hands all over the rub like is a supermodels leg unless you want to run that buck out of the neighborhood.
