Trujillo is such a dude. Seems like the most down to Earth of the Metallica lot.

glad that Robert mentioned the bipolar as this is helpful to bring out challenges that many face, the general public has had little understanding until recently. As well as bringing Jaco's music and playing to a greater audience. I think he did a nice job.

Its nice to know that a "metal" musician knows about Jaco, and hopefully will expose other metal musicians to Jaco. Very cool.

I met Robert way back in the day at the Vex in east LA. My band was opening up, and I had this huge bass rig with an SVT and a Cerwin Vega folded horn kinda thing. Robert showed up without an amp and asked if he could use my rig in his set. If course I said yes. He was this big dude and I was intimidated, but he was super nice and thanked me afterward. I'll never forget it.

Hats off,big time to Robert for making this biopic!!! My favorite Jaco performance was Pat Metheny's first album, with Bob Moses on drums. Of coarse they're all good. Robert Trujillo seams like a pretty cool guy.

+Johnnyhumbkr Bobby Moses! Oh, yeah, baby! I think he made Metheny's first record. Who else could he have gotten for the sessions? Maybe Tony Williams, maybe Jack DeJohnette, but Moses played his time loose, free and was, IMHO, the perfect accompanist for this record. The sounds of his cymbals, their crispness and how he used those sounds are the attraction for this listener and player.

Hat's off to Robert Trujillo for bringing arguably the greatest Bass Guitarist ever into the public eye.

He didn't bring him into the public eye. Jaco's been there since the '70's. Get with it.

Robert seems like a really good person!
I’m not a metal fan. But I think I’ll check some metal music out. Especially Metallic.
    Because of Robert.

Yes, Robert’s definitely a good person. You wouldn’t think he’s such a huge jazz fan too! Thanks for the comment, TR. Glad you liked the interview.

That is such an awesomely immature and ignorant thing to say.
CLEARLY you know NOTHING about bipolar disorders or have much
of an understanding of mental health issues. Jaco wasn't"looking for trouble" he was out of control with his condition. I know a bassist
who is an awesome player, as funny as Robin Williams, but if he doesn't get his Lithium he can end up smashing up your studio! He is not "asking for it" HE IS SICK. This guy knows it and deals with it.
Jaco didn't. His genius walked hand in hand with his madness.
That bouncer was twice his size and he needed to pulverize the dude?
For what? to "teach him a lesson"? I hope nobody you love ends up with a psychiatric medical issue and has to deal with somebody like you .

Maybe Bruce Lee's wife said it the best - "I prefer to focus on how he lived." I love Jaco and always will. By all accounts he loved his family and kids?

I find it interesting that Newsted left Metallica due to differences over side projects; older and wiser, they let Rob roll.
Good stuff, Jaco was an intriguing individual as well as one of the best.

+Damian Chapman Metallica has had to grow up the last 15+ years... THEY ALL do other things besides music now... (family life etc) so Robert's entry into the band was well timed and I am betting that he had a little more leeway than Jason might of had as well, considering his level of expertise on his instrument.. Not that Jason was an amateur.. He was/is a badass but he's no Robert Trujillo!!!

It really burns me up when I think about Jaco
Being homeless at the end of his career and
Getting beaten to death by a night club
    Bouncer.
That's the music business for you.
When you make them money, they back
You up. When you have problems or need
    Help, you are yesterday's news.

    • @ForBassPlayersOnly

Jaco had a rough time all right. Especially near the end. Thanks, Tiger.

@@ForBassPlayersOnly This is personal for me. My brother was an incredible bass player. He was Manic depressant too.
He didn't read music, just listened to any song and had the bass line down in 10 minutes flat.
He played piano and was the lead singer as well. He as about Jaco's age too,
Just an amazing talent with packed shows for over 30 years. Not a song writer though.
The legacy will always be there and that is
      something that is priceless,

Jaco had Manic depression. That is way above bipolar.
In Mania, the brain runs like a turbo charger.
For Jaco the musician, that meant incredible
    Music creations and excess energy...
After that, there's a system crash. He couldn't
Just sleep it off or take medication either.
