  • Apple Keynote supports videos with an alpha channel. This means you can include videos with transparent backgrounds in your presentations. The key is to use the correct video format that supports transparency such as ProRes 4444 format, though I highly recommend using the the HEVC format or converting your ProRes 4444 videos to HEVC video files as these have a much smaller files size and still look great. In this presentation, all the visuals show here were made in one Keynote file and then exported to video format for TH-cam. The ability to use videos with an alpha channel in slides (and export slide animations with an alpha channel) is one of my favorite features of Apple Keynote.

The NASA PowerPoint desk is here (I converted it to Keynote and then edited for the example shown).

Wow I really like your videos. You seems to like very much Keynote and it shows in your videos. People have a lot of picture in their phone and a lot of videos in their phone can you make tutorial on different way to use Keynote with those media because everybody would like to get them out of the cellular and show it. I think Keynote would be perfect with a good teaching of layouts and other things. Thank you very much. I really like your work.

Awesome video. But seemed to miss how you actually removed the alpha channel? Did you use a video editor? Thanks!

Yes, good point. I never did remove background in videos *in* Keynote. I used Davinci Resolve to get some transparency in the center of a film strip for example. Other videos with alpha channels I got from Motionarray. There are free sites too like Pexels and Pixabay, etc. Thanks for the idea -- I should show how to create video with an alpha channel in Keynote. Thanks for the suggestion!

Here I do talk about exporting a slide with animation and a transparent background in the video: th-cam.com/video/yFcSLqb_7LQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=cicEmpov3KtPsP5B&t=65

I've always used Windows since its inception, so I am not familiar with the Apple world. I only have the iPad for music (you are a musician, so you understand that there is no "portable" alternative [android for music is a joke]) I was wondering if this is also available for iPadOS?

Thanks for the message. Yes, Keynote is available for iPad. It works a little differently but it is basically the same app. Best of luck with the music too!
