  • The fix-a-thon on E30 is in full swing, we remove the broken subframe bolt, it gets all-new fluids, clutch sorted, new fuel pump and suspension overhaul with Bilstein B6 shocks. We also end in the kitchen, as you normally do on automotive channels, and cook a valvelicuos meal.
    Check out Bilstein suspension for your project:

    I want to say something. A lot of people online keep begging for more video's which would be amazing. But people need to understand the time it takes to diagnose vehicles, order correct parts, wait for parts, install them, and film the whole process with great quality both video and audio is extremely difficult .The videos are worth the wait, In my opinion. Keep it up. I hope to reach these level of quality and viewership that you have built. An amazing achievement and your formula has been spot on. Change nothing. Happy Viewing everyone...

      I also like the height. Suits the car, especially with those wheels.

    • @gosportjamie
      @gosportjamie 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      BMW did lower the ride height on the E30 pretty early in its' life, and again when it got the plastic bumper restyle later on, which is why there are so many part numbers for original springs listed. They wouldn't have done that if there was likely to be a clearance issue on speed bumps and the like, and even the later 325Ix 4wd version had a lower ride height than the early 320i and 323i without sports suspension...

    The Simons exhausts are also known as Jetex. Extremely good quality and fitment and they are aluminised for rust prevention, it will eventually rust but it should last longer than a factory exhaust. That being said I’d go with Supersprint if I could afford it. Another option is to go for the dual pipe 325i system which what I fitted on my 1988 320i. The only modification needed was to modify the diamond shaped flange where it mated to the manifold, the hole spacing was slightly different so the holes needed elongating slightly to fit over the studs.

    Note some older vehicles had a decell vaccum selonoid that when you let off gas it would allow a smoother idle down from 1500-750rpm. It usually located near throttle plate near cable. Not sure if e30s had this. Just tossing out some knowledge.

    On the throttlebody there is a small pin that adjust the closed position of the throttlebody butterfly. Adjust it so it can´t close completely. If the butterfly is able to fully close it will throw of the vacuum-controlled idle and make your idle too high or erratically go up and down. Keep the E30 stuff coming!! :)

    For the lowering Springs, normally it shouldn’t be a problem, the H-Kennzeichen is possible for Zeitgenössisches Tuning. If you could show them, that in the 80s lowering springs were normal it should work.

      I thought the exact springs and shock models had to be available 10 years after first registration date for the H-Kennzeichen, which mine were not. My E34 already had the H but the previous owner did not register the springs with the TÜV, probably installed them afterwards.
      Had no problem to get it registered, the inspector commented "80s BMW would be more period incorrect without lowering springs" 😀
      Depends on the inspector I guess. Also he was something like the head inspector for my area or something, the "normal" inspection sites were actually not sure if they could register the springs and did not want to do it for liability reasons.

    I highly recommend that you use Rocol cutting lube or grease when tapping or drilling. It makes it 10x more easy. And also when you don't want your hoses to kink, shove a small compression spring over that hose. That's how Honda does it on the old motorcycles. Cheers from the Netherlands aka west Germany 😜

    Re 29:20, as others have said, lowering springs shouldn't be an obstacle to getting the Section 23 inspection (Oldtimer-TÜV). The criterion is that the modification needs to be "contemporary", as in: available within 10 years after the car's initial registration. Aftermarket lowering springs for the E30 would have been available within that time frame, so no problem. My 1991 E30 has them, just passed muster with full marks. Still, best talk to your TÜV inspector in advance. M-Technik ones are going to work as well, of course.

    Hey Sreten, I know you intend to keep the steel rims, but I really think the car deserves the original 14 inch alloy wheels (1125688). The car is anyway not completely stock, since the steering wheel was tastefully upgraded to an M-Technic unit... Thanks a lot for awesome content!

    • @HNedel
      @HNedel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The steel ones can be used for winter tires, but the car will probably get season plates and not be driven in the salt season anyway. Those alloys were classy.

    The springs will settle in with time and they will be lower. It just takes some time. Like a month or two. That's why when you replace major part of your suspension in the front and do the alignment, you have to do the alignment again a month or two later when you notice your steering wheel is pointing at wrong direction when you're driving straight. Give it some time. The springs are clearly lower than the old ones so they just need time to settle in and get fatigued.

    The 320i before the Facelift only had one Tailpipe. With the 1987 Facelift came the double-tailpipes, afaik and remember.
    My father used to have one of the first E30 320i, at about 110000 km the engine went bad. After a long high-speed trip on the Autobahn one valve ripped off after shutting the car down at the house.
    Next morning no start, tried to tow it and ruined the engine that way. After a complete rebuild the engine never ran like it did before. Always had an idle issue (idling between 800 - 1300rpm) and a slight hesitation when revving up. We replaced all vacuum hoses, checked for other leaks, replaced a bunch of sensors without any luck. 3 or 4 BMW dealers didn't have any luck in tracking the problem down.
    Good luck with your pristine E30!

    Could idle be a wierd ECU issue? Given that it immediatly works fine if you restart.
    Also, perhaps maybe the idle valve, that sits on the inlet manifold could be acting funky.
