    Axe wasn't wrong... what made this scene so powerful is that it truly is a "Retribution" on Rebecca. She cut a very smart and profitable deal that makes perfect logical sense with Taylor that goes against everything that Axe wanted emotionally... Axe in turn made a very smart and profitable deal that makes perfect logical sense behind her back that goes against everything that Rebecca wanted emotionally.
    If she was willing to forgive him for that than he was willing to forgive her for what she did. They would be equals in accepting the denial of their personal emotional motivations as their relationship together was higher priority than their personal desires... Rebecca was the one who refused to put their relationship above her personal desires while expecting Axe to be the one required to put their relationship above his personal desires.

      @@grizzly4184 thanks... the writing on this show has occasional flashes of true brilliance among the muddled muck of Neoliberal Capitalist incoherence. I really liked Rebecca character and could have been a key driver of turning Axe from the Amoral Capitalist that he is into a decent Industrialist effecting large scale positive impacts (which he had dabbled in attempting before only for corrupt Chuck using the throughly corrupt political system to thwart Axe & cause even more damage then existed to begin with.) Not the fake "Good Guy" stuff from season 6 that was all geared towards PR purposes to join the corrupt political system that Prince was doing either... real socioeconomic changes revitalizing dying communities with new industries. But then I'm a Fascist... so doing real good for real people is my own ideals unlike the degeneracy of individualism inherent to the failed concept of Democracy

      Seriously? Lol - Axe is a psycho and this scene is all about demonstrating that he's incapable of having normal relationships. But then again, every man watches this show always falls into the trap of worshipping Bob. You're not meant to simp for him, he's a cautionary tale.

    • @nationalsocialism3504
      @nationalsocialism3504 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @claremontcowboy7409 I don't... Axe is shaped by the broken system we are in while undergoing Civilizational Collapse as the consequence of Americans & Europeans losing a civilizational war in WWII. Rebecca was the best chick in the show & could have really helped turn Axe into a better man... doesn't change the fact that what he did was true retribution & he was willing to stay with her as long as they were both bleeding from the same wound.

    Axe is one of the only TV characters I’ve ever seen who uses the cold, hard truth to make decisions rather than emotions and opinions. Also one of the only TV characters I’ve seen who can visualize his own, and other’s future in 4K HD and base all of his current actions on the truth about what will happen in any scenario. He’s a truly complex character from all angles no matter how you slice it, and honestly one of the most entertaining to watch.

    This is what happens to a person when all they choose to live for is this life & the things of this world. They live in fear & self absorbed & gutless ego. Sick & sad. For what will it profit a man to gain the whole world but lose his own soul?

    • @itonsohigh1206
      @itonsohigh1206 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      what soul bro ? where is it and what does it mean to have a soul ??? If some1 robs your wallet, are you going to try and get it back ?? If someone robs you of your wage, dreams, aspirations and future will you try and get it back ? My point being is that all of this is material; including starting a family. The idea of that life is conditional, where your kids and partner only love you for what you provide to them or the conditions you put them in (whether good or bad). It's all one big illusion and I don't know anything about it.
      Had Axe's father been there for him, different events would occur in his life and who knows, maybe he would have had a family and been happy; but even then, feeling secure in a world where security and safety is not guaranteed and falsely provided by others is the true sickness and sadness.
      What soul ?

      Axe was willing to forgive & stay with Rebecca after his legitimate retribution... he did to her what she had already done to him. Rebecca was the one unwilling to put her personal desires down for the sake of their relationship but she fully expected Axe to do so for her. Their relationship was dead already if Axe let her walk all over him like she tried to do... she cut the deal with Taylor out of a desire to remain "independent" instead of getting irrevocably tied to Axe to begin with. I say this as someone who thinks that Rebecca has been by far the best female character on the show & think that they would have phenomenal together... though that would have turned Billions into a very different show that the writers are not competent enough to have executed correctly.

      Yes. It's chilling. But as I watch and rewatch episodes, it seems Bobby's #1 requirement is loyalty. He demands excellence and is tough, but if someone screws up he seems to help them, anyway, *as long as they've remained loyal.*
      Rebecca must have known on some level that going behind his back and not communicating with him (especially after he broke the #1 of don't get emotionally invested in a deal, *for her*) would blow up their relationship. Though he sounds cold and scary, another way to consider his admission is to focus on how honest is is being. Many guys might have just nestled into that comfortable pattern of lies and distrust. Being up front with her about how his feelings morphed is in a way respecting her.
      They weren't acting like partners or a team.
      It's interesting when Wendy, with Taylor, later does something similar.

    • @nationalsocialism3504
      @nationalsocialism3504 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Obviously... she's going to be hailed as a genius cause what Axe did was the "smart business decision" just like she did to him with Taylor. This was a true retribution that he returned in kind for the offense done to him... Rebecca put "business" over Axe, so Axe returned the favor. Them being equally denied by the other in their deepest personal desires... Axe would be content to accept their relationship over his personal desires but Rebecca cared more about herself than their relationship.

    Axe was right, while you ignore something so obvious = her way was dumb, symbolic + would only prove she knows how to "waste" money for no logical/rational reasons she can explain = business isn't "whimsical" or idiotic + wasting time is only wasting time, at the end of the day

    Scotty, I'm a huge fan of Billions and have all five seasons. I didn't know there was an analysis on this scene. This is my favorite scene of the entire season, I've watched it over and over til I've lost count. This scene is so perfectly executed by Axe, it shows his deep hurts and anger over what Becca did. Each time I watched this scene, reminds me of a powerful Bible verse in Proverbs 31 "Women are the path way to Destructions in Men's lives." Have you realized what have been happening to Men on television over the last Five years? Some Women are cold, calculated, unhearted and causes entire Countries to start war. You can only trust them by watching them 24hrs...
