DKDKTV in general rural parts of india are very conservative and child marriage tho it is illegal is harder to control in the rural areas. They have me rigid stereotypes hence men in the kitchen is seen as feminine. Corruption is present a lot in India so that is true to some point but that is changing. Finally this movie is focused on a rural family so all the opinions are harder to generalise to a urban city family in India😄😄😄

      ANSWERS
      1. obviously, it is not true ! in india girls are allowed to wear anything what she wants except in rural areas or small villages but now it is no more prevalent ! nowadays people a lot more are open to societies!
      2. In india, long time ago it was a myth if can say that a man is cooking ! in ealy times usually a woman was only supposed to cook and the other thing in india there is so much religious sancity of many hindus( espcially) mainly ,sikhs also towards their religion that they dont even touch any non veg thing ! eating it is a lot more big issue! i.e why i think u understood ! there is movie the father was soo focussed for their girls to be a wrestler that he would go to any extent for his girls to get his aim even if it was against the society!
3.Honestly speaking , nothing shown in the movie like( the instructor being strict, the father being locked up in the room during her olympics final ) was a real event that occured with geeta and babita and mahavir phogat during her victory! so we cant say that our institutions are corrupt ! yes there is corruption we can't really deny of it !
      JAI HIND VANDE MATARM!

#1) India is a very diverse country ranging from super liberal cities to rural villages. The girls came from a very rural village that is very conservative and backwards and hence why shorts were not allowed in that village.
#2) In the movie, the issue was not him coming into the kitchen but him cooking meat in her kitchen. These specfic indians are vegetarian brahmins so eating or cooking meat is considered a sin, hence she did not want him to contaminate her kitchen with meat.
#3) Third, yes, the indian government is unfortunately very corrupt. That is partly the reason why even though with 1.2 billion population, India barely gets any gold medals in the olympics.
    Hope this helps!!! :)
P.S. just a side note, I disagree with Danny's thinking that the government should not fund the olympics. It is true someone might not remember who won the gold medal in 1957 etc but when the olympics actually happen in current day, it is a matter of pride and economy for the country. That is why many countries also fight to have the olympics take place in their home country.

    • @KT-ki8ik
      @KT-ki8ik 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Many countries that host cannot burden the costs of doing so, and many if not most of the arenas made specially for the Olympics end up abandoned because no one can afford to upkeep them. It's just a waste of government funding and resources for a short term event that has corrupt leaders around it.
Russia planned to spend 12 billion. They spent over 53 billion. And only made 53 million in profit.
Italy lost 3.2 million and uses their stadiums to host refugees
Montreal, Canada in 1976 spent 6 billion to host the Olympics and spent 30 years trying to pay it off.
Its so unpopular that no cities want to host 2022 because its such a waste of money

FYI i think that family in the Dangal was Vegetarian! India has the highest % of vegetarians in the World so the mother didn't want meat cooked in her kitchen and told them to cook it outside.
Not gonna lie about the Olympics i never expected Korea to do so well. When I saw SK in top 5 countries at the Olympics and I thought "wow I'm surprised, I thought Korea was an irrelevant country" (no offence) you expect the relevant countries to do the best so Korea doing well at the Olympics makes Korea more RELEVANT on the world stage in the minds of people around the world. A lot of people still can't pick out Korea on a map you know. 😂

About the cooking part in the "movie", the conflict was not because men can't cook, it was because a large percentage of Hindus in India are vegetarian and even in those households, where they eat meat, its cooked in separate utensils (mostly). so the conflict was that they were vegetarian family, and because father thought wrestlers need more protein intake, so the daughters should consume meat. The mother being vegetarian refused to cook meat in her kitchen.

    • @KT-ki8ik
      @KT-ki8ik 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

They could just eat dal (lentils) which has a crazy amount of protein per serving

hi Danny and David i loved your Reaction :)
In rural areas women are not allowed to wear short skirts or even pants, they are only allowed to wear salwaar kameez (Indian dress) especially in Haryana, the state where these girls are from. in cities women wear anything they want but still few people look down upon them.
Men are allowed in the kitchen but most Hindus are pure vegetarian, that's why in this movie the woman doesn't want his husband to cook meet in her kitchen. They think its sinful to eat meat. Also in rural areas women are expected to do all the household work while men earn bread for the family.
Yes, there is a lot of corruption in India and that affects Indian Sports Industry. And that's the biggest reason why we don't win as many medals despite being the second most populated country.
Hope i answered all your questions! DKDKTV Fighting!!

OMO! u guys replied!! yes sure we will!! once the corruption minimizes India will surely be on the top 5 at least! India has a lot of potential. And i loved you guys arguing over the Olympic funds although it was funny, but its true. We do feel pride when our country wins a medal but what about those who don't even have food to eat?

  • @pr9166
    @pr9166 7 ปีที่แล้ว +156

Hey to answer your first question about whether women can wear shorts, in rural areas it'd most probably be seen as taboo but in modern cities, it is more acceptable for women to wear skirts and shorts and many do but even so, I don't think it's as widely seen as it is in South Korea and there is some level of stigma against women who dress in a "modern" way too.
For the second question, Gita and Babita's family is strictly vegetarian (they're Brahmins) so when the father comes in and says he wants to cook meat to strengthen the girls whom he believes are weaker due to their vegetarian diets, the wife is outraged because he's breaking their ancestral tradition and to her (and as many other Indians who are vegetarian may relate), such an act would be seen as trangressive / 'contaminating' the 'pure'.

Awesome review guys! I also watched Dangal recently and loved it. I was also hoping for the father to be able to see Geeta win the game, but I agree that would have made it cliche. The reason why the mom didn't want the father to cook chicken is probably because of religion. A lot of people don't cook/eat meat because of religion. I also somewhat agree with Danny. Sport funding should be a second priority after a country's living condition. I also agree with David that even if a country is still developing, they shouldn't neglect the sports industry because people who are really passionate about sports wouldn't be able to pursue athletics with full support (Lol that was a heated debate). Your slow mo acting was hilarious! I would also recommend airlift. It is a very gripping movie and is also based off a true story.

    Hi there!
    Just to answer some of your questions;
    1. It is acceptable for women to wear shorts (or dress in a more liberal/western manner per se) in the majority of India. There are some rural areas where it could be considered disagreeable as well as some areas that you may cop cat calling as a result. However, in most of India, dressing sense is not much of an issue.
    2. A lot of these rural areas tend to be very religious. In this particular movie, the family is vegetarian as a result of their religious beliefs and the wife wants to avoid having meat cooked in her house, therefore she makes the comment that she does. I think this was also a line that was meant to be a bit comical, a major theme in Indian comedy is the playful bickering between Indian couples.
    3. Yes (sigh).
These reactions are very insightful and it would be great if you could keep doing them!
P.S. about the whole black and white thing. I completely agree. I feel as is the movie was giving a compilation of the main points in their life as opposed to fleshing them out (eg. it takes one conversation with the 12 yr old girl to change their mind, the issue between the father daughter is resolved quite quickly). In saying that though, it seems as if that was the effect they were going for and were very successful at it.
ALSO none of these girls were actually wrestlers prior to the movie! If you are interested in their physical prep, they released a 5 minute video entitled making of the dhaakad girls

      Also some trailers if you are interested in reacting to more;
Udta Punjab (on the drug problems the Indian state Punjab is currently facing)
Bajirao Mastani (a historical rom drama, ur fav deepikas in it)
      Highway (about stockholm syndrome)
      Queen (female centric)
Kahaani (one of the best suspense thrillers bollywood has produced as of late)
Masaan (won an award at cannes)
      Haider (adaptation of Shakespeares Hamlet)
Ram Leela (quite a raunchy adaptation of Romeo Juliet, also deepika again)
Yeh jawaani hai deewani (the epitome of a bollywood rom com, very enjoyable though)
I tried to include a wide range for you to choose from. I look forward to seeing more reactions :)

I lived in backward village , a small town , a moderate size city and Mumbai, (Total 8 places )here are the correction
1 = Delhi and Mumbai are not india, Shorts are not go to choice in 70 %+ India, not acceptable in 40%+ India
2 - Much of India is religious(95%+), In north India Vegtarian strictness is verry common, You will not get (mostly)a house in rent in rajasthan if ur a non-veg,

      @22g90 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hey Nishant! Hope you're having a rad day.
You've obviously had a different experience to myself and thats cool!
Being a pahadi, its quite common for even the most religious houses to eat meat (particularly goat) as a result of the climate/availability in Himachal! Similarly, fish is a staple in Calcutta and Andaman and Nicobar islands.
I've never actually lived in Delhi and Mumbai and didn't allude to them representing the entirety of India. As far as my experience goes, most of the places I have been to in India, I have felt comfortable wearing shorts. Whether or not a particular female chooses to wear shorts is a different question and that is influenced by many other factors.
Thanks for your input though :)

I'm a half north and half eastern Indian boy and I live in siliguri, dargeeling and here girls even my sister wear shorts pretty much everyday and no one teases them so I guess north east girls have more freedom but as for northern Indian girl there wears jeans and tends cover themselves not 'cause they are not modernised but people there are very much stick to saris and suits I think and
My friend's mom who is from North always used to say "stay away from these North eastern girls, they are not cultured and they seduce men for money" and after hearing that I was like a WTF!!!
Northern people really are narrow minded, they think girl who wears shorts is a sex toy and is uncultured that's may be the reason for girls to not wear shorts in north 'cause their old generation are pretty much narrow minded.

For what it's worth those kind of people treat the girls from their own region the same way if they wear similar dresses and move around freely because they are just that kind of morons. North East get flagged because these morons are used to controlling how women should act but don't get women from there. For my part I think another problem is communication gap. I had some NE girls in my college but I hardly ever got to talk to them. They made a group and limited their interaction among themselves. Partly maybe they had language issue but I felt they were not eager to mingle either. So they stuck out as an enigma but may not have enough social interaction to get help from sane people of North region as other girls from the same region do.

Are people in North behave like that with North Eastern people? That's wrong how can they behave like that. I'm from South so this is like the first time I heard about this.
If it is true, then this kind of narrow minded behavior is sickening and disgusting.
I'm really feeling bad for North Eastern girls. Aren't all of us Indians, why people are behaving like that? This is so sick.

Only halfway through the video but you guys made me really intrigued about the movie and I will watch it soon. And regarding the Olympics, I am agreeing with the both of you. As a Singaporean, I don't care if we win more or less medals and that in no way will affect my pride and love for the country...but I totally see how winning medals will give at least some international spotlight to the winners, for example when our swimmer, Joseph Schooling won over Michael Phelps. Basically it's not important to win but if you do, it feels good I guess?

By the way she won in commonwealth games we are not that good in Olympics😅 we are trying though maybe one day. If you exclude metropolitan cities then rural is very conservative (especially for western point of view).Men are can also ever kitchen is not a big thing that much But usually they(conservative patriarchal men ) that women belongs to kitchen. Also point to be noted that the family was vegetarian so for the sake of girls they have to take this Big decision of eating non-vegetarian that's why also she says that line. Child marriage is banned in India it has drastically reduced (the the problem was in rural, poor areas cities already quite advanced).

sayed musthaqeem : spot on....DKDKTV: this story is from one of the most conservative Indian provinces which is famous (infamous) in India for gender bias....and that too from a rural area of that province...the reason why this story is so huge in India is because those girls fought that society and came up to represent India in an international stage....the movie is not about female empowerment (the decision was not their own, but their father's), it is more about breaking gender stereotypes..and yes, India is diverse!! each province has their own ways....if you go to the eastern or north eastern provinces in India the situation is very different ...even in rural areas.

I would really recommend you guys to watch Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, especially David because he said he likes the slo-mo stuff lol. In my opinion, it was that one movie which started the whole "fad" of making biographical sports movies. This particular movie is based on the life Milkha Singh who was a track sprinter for India during the 1960's and, at a time when India was struggling to get back up on its feet and be known as an independent nation post colonization, he brought India to the map at least in the sports field. He himself has such a painful background as he experienced the partition of India and Pakistan when he was a child (his whole village was Sikh and in current day Pakistan so they had to migrate to the new India) and they show that in the movie hitting upon the struggles that the Partition brought in its wake. All in all, it is an amazing movie and every time I see it, it makes me feel very patriotic and emotional. Also, makes me stop being a couch potato and actually go work out but that is different matter altogether xD

Hello David and Danny , as per my perspective winning a medal for the country matters people in the country (it's not a small thing), and also people all over the world (they are watching!!) it definitely motivates people to work hard not everyone may be, few. The pride here is patriotism towards country , may be we wont remember the people who won or lose, but we remember the motivation. For example Danny you are watching the match where the participants from your country trying hard ( super hard) to win, will you not feel that the person should win (also my country) it matters right? win and lose always matters, when you are representing a country you worked so hard and have a huge responsibility over you, it's not about medal it's about proving oneself and saying that there are people so capable like me here (in my country). It also says that it is possible to me so it is possible to everyone!

I am from India, and as a citizen I agree that at that time period when Gita was a child, and all, Most of Indian villages were very conservative especially abt women. Now things have changed in most areas. India is a developing country, so I expect you to understand, you know😅.
That corrupted coach stuff was actually what happened, so it was one of those unique cases, not necessarily applicable to most sports facilities.
But nonetheless, I hope India gets equally developed as Korea 🇰🇷 and maybe one day we might see Indian singers collaborating with k pop singers/groups. 😜☺

I completely agree with something Danny said, they tried to spin her as some kind of feminist trailblazer conquering the wrestling world for her country. But not really, because wrestling was the Father's dream not the girls' personal dreams and he forced them into it. The father was so dominant, the girls didn't really get to make their own dreams or choices, so in this way, the typical Indian patriarchal stereotype is still enforced. Which is kinda annoying. OH and the wife character was so passive 😒such a stereotype.

India is growing at a super fast pace. As you said they depicted a very small village, plus this was showing a period around maybe 20 years back . Situation has changed a lot. Child marriages are not common, it might be true for some small and underdeveloped villages but its illegal. Also though love marriages are very common now but arranged marriage are not like how you think it is, you are not forced to marry someone your parents choose. Your parents are just an intermediately(instead of an dating app) you meet the person, you spend time with them and it's your decision if you want to marry them.
Also India is a country of contradictions, everyone is totally different, the country changes every few kilometers , not just the scenery, even the people the culture the language. Its difficult to put India in one generalized category. Even an Indian cannot totally explain India because its so complicated. As far as the chicken thing. Hinduism is again super complicated. Some hindus are pure vegetarian and while some hindus are non vegetarian (and its allowed according to Hinduism). As far as men not being allowed again these people are from a super conservative village so doesn't apply to everyone.

question 1- India as a whole cannot be taken under a roof, there are rural areas and there are the urban modernized areas. Speaking strictly of rural areas, forget shorts (that would be unimaginable) even wearing western clothes other than all covered Indian clothes would be looked down upon. I am a girl from Mumbai, here i can wear clothes of my choice TILL AN EXTENT though (society as well as my parents restrictions, no shorts, no off shoulders, no spaghettis) but some girls do wear anything they want, who come from modernized families and when I go to rural India where my relatives are, i dont wear even jeans and stick to traditional Indian clothing. So in all it varies from each and every place in India. Whether it's a village, a town or a metropolitan city and hence the liberty.

Okay I really enjoyed your review, and I found myself agreeing more to David. Not all the money should be used for the development of the people and their facilities and making the nation more progressive. Sports is a recreational activity, used as a career, entertainment for people and an activity for self enjoyment (hence a hobby too) and this indeed is an essential part of the sports player and the society, so funding for it is normal. The society needs it. Kpop for example, is just another entertainment industry and your government does funding for it too? Doesn't it? It's the same way

Hi DK DK, thank you for the exhaustive commentary and point wise breakdown done so elaborately well. You guys are simply jjjaaannng...Most of the viewers have explained your questions but I will just drop in my 2 cents.
    1) The Phogat sisters are from a state called Haryana - north of India. Most of the people living in this part are farmers and they are not in the high strata of the society. They are simple people with the simple Indian values. And one of those values would be a women should be dignified, simple and more or less obedient to the men of the house. So they don't wear shorts as this is too revealing and considered slightly vulgar. In India women do wear clothes just like women in Korea, but in the village sides like this family they are still very traditional and conservative.
    2) As you're aware most Indians are vegetarians. Do google the word "ahimsa" - this is one of the fundamental teachings of Gandhi. And this is a practice most Indians follow - not to do "himsa" and a general value of life. So meat is not an option in many Indian households like the Brahmins and certain sects of Hindus. But the father wanted the girls to have their regular protein intake that is why he was forced to do it whether his wife liked it or not. And secondly cooking is considered a women's job as the man is the breadwinner and the women takes care of household duties. Things are changing now but again this is a traditional family.
    3) You know until 1983 hockey was one of the best loved sports of India. But after the Indian cricket team won the ICC World Cup that year, attitudes changed and besides cricket there is not much funding for other sports organisations which leads to the inevitable - corruption. Because the pay is low and govt. does not allot much to different sports organisations the officials don't take their jobs seriously. And the womens' quota has significantly much lesser funding compared to men. This is one of the other reason the father was adamant that his girls make it change the perspective towards the sport as well as to women.
I am glad that you guys enjoyed the movie. Keep up the good work :)

Guys it's based on true story and the coach was very very egoistic. He even went to the production accusing them that he was portrayed wrongly and it was a big controversy. There are some real people like him who always keeps himself on the front and everything else on the back. And to be frank, situation of sports in India is pathetic, no infrastructure no money, ignorant official etc etc... Those who get fame and international medals are solely responsible for their own hard work and passion. Govt doesn't really help struggling athletes. Only a few get attention by the media that's to if local leaders, member of parliament promote her/him (of course as a vote bank for the community). Hope the situation will improve soon.
2nd: In metro cities no one gives a F about what a girl should wear. But situation changes the more deeper inside India you go. In some places it's still taboo but as a rapidly urbanizing society it's views are also changing fast. In urban areas a girl can wear short pants that are not too short. It's not big deal.
And regarding marriage, hehehe arrange marriages are still a huge thing in the indian society. In India marriage is not between the couples it's between the families 😂. Though love marriages exists and love marriages are also kind of arrange marriage in India.

To answer David's questions, India is simultaneously living in 2 different world. The cities and the rural areas are worlds apart. There is no law which says that girls cant wear what they want to but usually in rural areas wearing shorts isn't something that is really encouraged.
2nd question- Men can cook but in Dangal the family was a vegetarian family and cooking chicken and meat in the home kitchen would be considered by many as "anti-religious".
3rd question- There have been improvements in providing better sports infrastructure and facilities and movies like these go a long way in helping the state but the govt is takes its own sweet time to do anything substantial.
Watch Dil Chahta Hai (The heart wants) again by Amir Khan or Dear Zindagi (Dear Life) to learn about the other end of the spectrum of Indian culture .
Really enjoy you videos, though I know you guys from your KPOP reactions, videos like these are a pleasant surprise.
Also do recommend some good Korean movies. I watch a lot of Korean dramas but I haven't done a good job in picking good movies (except of course Train to Busan)

  • @sakshisoreng
    @sakshisoreng 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I hope you are ready for an essay David.
India is a huge country, there are 29 states and almost half of them are larger than South Korea, area wise. Having said that, you can imagine how diverse the culture, traditions and ideology can be in one state itself let alone the whole country. There are places which are very progressive while others are really backwards. Almost 70% of people in India account for rural population and therefore are not as developed as the rest of the country, especially when it comes to gender justice. Geeta and Babita Phogat were born in late 80s in a region which is still infamous for discrimination based on gender and caste. So considering the time and place they come from the girls had to struggle a lot to reach where they are now. It is true, most of the Indians are quite conservative when it comes to dressing. I haven't seen girls wearing shorts in places other than big cities, even there some people do judge them for the choice of apparel. But mostly, women are free to choose what they want to wear in most places.
Secondly, in India vegetarianism is not limited to an individual's choice but is actually associated with religious beliefs. So, some factions of society believe that eating meat of any kind make you impure and it is frowned upon. Also traditionally, kitchen is considered to be the holy place in one's home, where they keep the statues and photos of deities and pray. Bringing in meat in such a place would be akin to committing a sin. I guess that's why their mother's reaction was so extream.
Lastly, corruption is rampant not only in area of sports funding but in almost all administrative areas. The government has started taking steps but it is yet to be seen how successful they will be in dealing with corruption.
However, India as a whole is a wonderful country with a blend of numerous cultures, religions and rich history. It has many amazing sides one can enjoy.

    Hello Danny and David.
I loved your review. And as for your answers, please remember that India is big, very big land wise [7th largest country in the world] and population wise; we also have thousands of ethinicities and language and are just as diverse. So what is true for one region is not true for other at all. It might as well be opposite. It is kind of like Europe in comparison. Anyway, on with the answers.
    1. Girls wearing shorts.
This really depends on where you are, which state and whether the area is rural or urban. For example, in big cities like delhi and mumbai it is not a big deal for either men or women to wear shorts.
But in the rural area of the already conservative state Haryana [It is where the movie is based and it is also one of the most conservative states of India when it comes to women] it is not socially acceptable.
    2. 12 year old marraige
This practice of child marriage is a dying practice, practiced only is most conservative states and then too in rural areas or recently urbanised areas. If you were to meet a random person anywhere else in the country, they wouldn't have even met anyone who had been married as a child. And those that are married as child, don't leave their parents house until later when they grow up.
    3. Arranged marriage.
This is, most of the times, the only socially accepted system of marriage and most of the times it doesn't work like it is shown in movies. Love marriage is still frowned upon in most of India and is socially acceptable only in big cities and even then there are several restrictions on whom one could marry.
Arranged marriage these days is like arranged dating, where parents meet the other family and decide on the prospective groom and then the couple have some time to get to know each other before getting married; in between this time, both the girl and the boy can say no anytime.
If you were to meet a random person on the street, they would most likely have had an arranged marriage or would be married through this system. Most GF/BF break up and marry through this system. Most, not all.
    4. Men not allowed in kitchen.
It is not that men are not allowed in kitchen, it is that non-vegetarian food [meat, chicken, mutton, fish, eggs] is not allowed in the household. Until last generation, a large part of Hindu Indians refused to even touch egg, let alone eat meat and eggs. They would bathe and purify themselves if they even touched the utensil that had been touched by meat. Indians even revolted against british when british forced them to use bullets laced with beef and pork fat. [Revolt of 1857; The Sepoy Mutiny]
My family is fairly modern and yet, in my ancestral home, meat can not be cooked inside the house. If you want to eat meat, eat outside or cook it outside the house. It can not be brought inside the house. There are special utensils that are only used for eating meet and they are treated as untouchable utensils for the rest of the time.
    5. Indian facilities
They are bad as indian government does not pay any attention to any sport except cricket. They treat cricket like their favorite child and rest like step-children.
I hope this answered all of your questions. Please feel free to ask more questions if you have any confusion.

In India child marriage is pretty much thing of past, nowadays
Marriage is allowed, when the bride is above 21 and broom is above 19 so if anyone who abolish it will be in jail for many years!!!
And many people in India do arrange marriage which similar to blind dating, you just meet somebody and date him/her and decide to marry him or her so that's what today's Indian arrange marriage is.... Quite different from past I think but condition is same parents will always interfere in your love life.

And its seriously touching when the national anthem was playing, and at that very moment he knew his daughter has won the gold medal. He know because of the national anthem was playing.. I cried so hard at the scene. It won't be as fun if he got to get out from that room.. just like you said, it would be cliche.

Also, I'm kinda sorry to say this, but in your music video reviews, why didn't u watch the original or at least listen to the original songs? As in the raabta video, it's a remix of original song which is amaaaazing, you should have heard that too and like compared it if u wanted or something. Similarly humma humma is a remix of the classic humma humma song. Hehe. Just saying and no offence.

I find your review of Dangal, the best. You have tried to touch every part of the movie. I Liked the comparisons that you were drawing between India and Korea. I am huge Korean TV and film fan, so I love Korea. Now coming to your question about conservatism in Indian society, India is growing. The age old mould of conservatism is getting broken by strong personalities. Only rural or may be backward parts of India is still suffering from the conservative thinking.

Hi David, thanks for your genuine curiosity.
    1. People from rural areas, also under developed states - especially women - rarely wear western clothes. It is looked down on and seen as to losing the tradition and culture. This is reflected in the movie. It's also very relevant because the state where this movie is set is one of the most regressive in our country for women's rights. In the cities, developed/developing towns this is not the case.
    2. In rural areas & traditional households that uphold the age old gender roles, men do not cook. This is changing. The issue in the movie isn't because he's a man - rather that he's cooking meat. Some Indians are vegetarian for religious, cultural, and traditional reasons. So him breaking that tradition and cooking and eating meat is the point of contention.
    3. Government funding is many times funneled by corrupt officials in charge for personal use. Or invested in under the table low quality deals. The central authority many times allocates funds, which are not announced or released for actual developmental works - could be for a variety of reasons. That's the matter the movie addresses. Low accountability and corruption.
Though I'm a bit late, hope this helps!
Hi Danny, governments invest in sports funding because of morale. I'm calling it an investment because it's more than medals - it's soft power. A similar comparison is kpop, kdramas or even Hollywood & Bollywood for that matter. Everything, especially money, has better uses. The distribution though is determined through payoffs. Quite evident if you consider the kpop/drama analogy. I'm just posting my observation, but you might have gathered that I believe public funding is necessary.

Lol a lot of people here are trying to sugarcoat/downplay stuff and project India as more liberal than it is. Why not state it objectively? I'm an Indian too and I know how difficult it is to wear shorts when you're not living in select metropolitan cities and how majority of Indian households consider it a woman's job (and a girl's job to learn) to cook while men have a choice. These things are very deep rooted and a lot of "modern" households do it. Same with gender bias. Though the point here was that their mother didn't want non-vegetarian food cooking in their kitchen since they're strictly vegetarians. No touching eggs let alone meat.
About your review. It was very interesting and I love watching you guys talk. Keep up the good work pls!
And keep reviewing Bolly movies lol!

    1. I wear shorts all the time at home :( its so hot here
But going out in shorts depending upon the "Area" sometimes get people's eyes and sometimes stares too
    2. Well I will start from the fact that there is a lot of vegetarians (not vegan but veg) people here
The fam showed here is also a veg and hence they can't cook meat at home or inside of it
Fun fact: There are some families who dont even cook onions and garlic at home and don't bring them home
    3. Yes corruption is #1 issue that boils every Indian
And about that communication issue I guess its an acient topic parents are always one directional and use all ways once they see what they want in their kids
And as we can see he saw how bad the boys got beaten up so i guess he saw the spark in girls
Slo mo thingy is a very common thing focus freeze and drumrolls too but they are more like used in daily soap/ melodrama thingy (which i really hate and i remember at that point i felt like when we see a real match) also think the director thought it out this way because there was too many fights and he didn't wanna bore audience (just a thought)
Also all if this is my view point so don't fight me
