      You have a valid point. But Ole Anderson did run the GCW territory back in the 70's, he knows talent not skin color brings in that green cash if the wrestler can work and get over with a crowd. If only the profit motive of all things could end racial discrimination in this country I'm 100% down!

    I wouldn't of been surprised if wcw in the early years had a racist culture, but Bishoff never gave that impression to me. To say Booker-T only got a title push because the colour of his skin makes me sad. He was always a great worker and well deserving of any push he got. Personally I like to think regardless of personal bias most promoters will go with the guys that will make money. I watched Wretlemania 4 yesterday and listened to the pop Junk Yard Dog gets, more than all the others guys, I tell ya. Most crowds I believe don't care about race either, the guy has it or he doesn't. Watch wrestling with wregrets best 8 black wrestlers, and you will be surprised how many you might of over looked in your own top ten, because of time.

      Jamie Booker T's title win at the time was rather shocking, not just because it was a first time winner, and I hate to say this because Booker T got really great. But that was in WWF, Booker T before that was rather rough around the edges still, He could have great matches but he had a lot of folks pulling his game up [Think of what came before His World title run, A best of 7 with beniot, A feud with the NWO when the Nwo could have shit matches and the crowd would still be hot] it was great stuff no doubt but a WCW title run hot? I don't know man. the timing of it was tainted by rumors of a lawsuit coming that were in the pipeline. Booker got way better and totally earned everything that came after. and hell I'm even a Booker T fan. but at that time unless given a cannot miss angle or opponent..Booker was mostly average at best in WCW.

    • @ThomasBahamas
      @ThomasBahamas 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Booker T in WCW was ok, but a lot of his gimmick was just copy and paste of The Rock's rejected catch phrases. Granted, he did exceptionally well with the "Don't hate the player, hate the game" schtick. In WWE was when he was at his best & I was a huge fan of. King Booker was one of the greatest characters in recent years, even if it was insanely silly.

I've worked at places when I have been one of the only white people and I can still say black people get shit on in the south. Though in that job, we were all underpaid, it lead to me getting fired for bringing it up. I'm half white and half N. Just because there was only 2 black champions In wcw doesn't prove racism proves that someone else was a bigger draw simple the too belt goes to the biggest draw. Lots of black Hispanics Asians held titles in wcw not the big strap but they held all other belts it's not wcw fault they were not a draw.

    Some very good information in this two part series. This was the first time I had heard the allegations about Doug Dillenger. On tv he seemed like a decent person. I'm also surprised that Ole Anderson would have given testimony that benefitted the group bringing the law suit.

    I like the part where you compared the Junk Yard Dog, who was seriously out of shape and wrestling just to maintain his crack habit; to a young Lex Luger who was working hard to make a name for himself in the business.
    And what would have we done without Sonny Ono, that legendary manager, that charismatic icon of the Monday Night Wars? He and those other 3 guys no-one has ever heard of really deserved that lawsuit and whatever they milked from a dead company in WCW.

      Lex luger.. If he was supposed to be an example of a better cleaner person he would have never cheated on his wife lied about it and instead of getting cleaned up and could have been a helper to those struggling with drug abuse problems but what happened? He was so fucked up on drugs as well. And Elizabeth overdosed under his watch..

    I think that the crux of the argument is that many feel that minority wrestlers cannot draw crowds. This further from the truth because wrestlers such as Thunderbolt Patterson, JYD, Eddie Guerrero, Bobo Brazil were big draws in their time and even today, Shinsuke Nakamura is the biggest babyface in WWE.

I'm from the mountains of North Carolina and my wife is a gorgeous African American woman and our children are the definition of perfection, and while I can't deny the tainted history of our region I sincerely hope that in time your opinion of the south can change so that my kids and all the future generations can base a man or woman on their merit and dignity rather than a skin color. IDK u but I respect your opinion and hope the ugliness of racism hasn't hardened your heart to the point to not give southern ppl a shot at redemption.

    • @jesuszamora6949
      @jesuszamora6949 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No one said all of them were.
      The south, however, does have a problem with racism. You and your children are part of the chance that needs to happen in that region, and in this nation as a whole. WCW was one of those organizations with DEEP roots in the old days, and it's hard not to see that in their booking decisions. Had it been a newer organization, like TNA/Impact or ROH, we'd probably not have seen the type of bullshit.

    I got an idea for a episode for behind the titontron: an episode about the women named Lisa from the 3rd season of tough enough, there's a story that she had a mental breakdown & started throwing herself against walls in the house then she later got onto the roof & was later talked down where she was sent to a mental hospital, she was later released but when her parents came to meet her at the air port, she claimed she didnt know them & had another mental breakdown which shut down a part of the airport. then after all that she tried to get back onto the show but the producers said no... later at a series of shows in California, she some how managed to talk her way backstage & either helped with the fireworks and or had a face to face conversation with Vince...
    I would love to see this story covered in the future & see if You can dig up some more information

    An issue I have with some of the comparisons between different workers that the different participants made, while WCW's framework was undeniably racist- regarding the specific comparisons how can it be shown that the better opportunities afforded to - for example - Lex Luger were because of race and not because he kissed more ass or had better contacts or was afforded favors or sucked off the promoter or whatever? Tenure could factor into it, too, the fact that he was former WWF talent at the main event level could be a factor, too.

    i don't know if i would compare wrestling to football - i get what the statistician was trying to do there, but its not enough to just say, "requires athleticism and endurance". Why not pick hockey over football? When you consider that 13% of the US population is black and 9% of WCW wrestlers are black, that part doesn't really seem too far off, though obviously the differences in pay and use of slurs is intolerable.
