I feel like Elven dreadnought would be awesome - after living peacefully in forests in harmony with nature, some elves started to fear what might happen, seeing other races advancing technologically and slowly taking away their forests. Though due to tradition and elven laws, no such unharmonious advances could be made and the few that saw the need developed technology in secret. Their ranks grew bit by bit, but soon were discovered by others and were chased out of their homeland, exiled and hunted. After wandering land beyond the elven kingdom for many years, they started a village. Living in peace without fear of others they continued their technological advances. But at some point came the news of their brethren being conquered and slaughtered. Knowing what will come, they started training troops and building machines to fight, consuming resources around them with no regard to their old ways of preservation, that caused the others to die out. You are their new hero, looked upon to lead them to victory. Lead great armies, expand your kingdom and vanquish all enemies in the name of elves. Will you prosper or will you die?
honestly, one of the best LP's ive seen and ive watched a ton. it was refreshing to have an actual person to look at while the game played, player reactions are fun to see. also, i appreciated the long character creation. i will have y copy in about two hours! cant wait!
Yeah. Fallen enchantress always in my opinion lacked depth in the tactical side. I never found a reason to use many of the weapons, it felt like watered down version of heroes of might and magic combat. This to me seems to be a different take on the heroes of might and magic combat with aditional rules and less RNG and changes.
Thanks for trying these games and making all the noob mistakes I would do - watching them is way better than any in-game tutorial - You even made me feel like I could play EU4 - and I did! Keep up the good work!
I'm guessing he's figured it out by now, but for anyone new: 1. All 'Guard' does during combat is make you unflankable. If you're not going to be flanked next turn anyway, just go for a ranged attack or something, there's no benefit from guarding. 2. If there isn't enough distance between you to charge you can take a side step or a back step and that counts as an extra movement tile for your charge requirement! 3. Straight shot just means you get extra penalty for blocked line of sight as opposed to arcing shots.
1:33 YES!! The same settings as in the previous games. So great to see. Definetly buying this before Warlock 2 then, since Warlock 2 didnt even bother including a setting to turn down the independent cities that cover the world. See, devs? This is the difference that giving players OPTIONS does. The difference between a pre-order for your game or a pre-order for the competitor.
I'll likely play a dwarf first, because dwarves are awesome. Dreadnought is the most fitting class, I guess, but since it's what you play in one of the campaigns, I'll probably try something else first. A dwarven archdruid sounds ridiculous, so I might go with that.
The mechanical knight or whatever one, with the machines and logic and what not made me think of a quote by Sindri in Dawn of War. "All power, demands sacrifice." Course, to what that sacrifice is, maybe apparent or not at first.
So, correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that this game is like Heroes of Might and Magic, and Warlock 2 is like Master of Magic. Is that right? Really enjoy both of the games, just wrapping my head around the differences!
Not really.. Uh. Somewhat. You'd be way better off comparing them to their ACTUAL prequels, Age of Wonders 2 / Shadow Magic and Warlock 1. Just google some lets plays or try them out. They are VERY different games. Age of Wonders is more 4x, slow buildup, empire management. Warlock is more strategy game, average speed, troop positioning and usage.
This game is more like HoMM, yes. Warlock 2 is more like Civ5 but with magic. I mean, that is me making assumptions based on Quills videos. I have not played the games myself(yet). AoW3 is very, very similar to its prequel, Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic, so you can go try that out. Shadow Magic is 11 years old though.
There are too many crossover elements between all of these games to really make that kind of comparison. I would say that Warlock is a bit more "buildery/strategy" and Age of Wonders is a bit more "roleplay/tactics" -- but even that's pretty weak.
quill18 What kind of world do we live in where we are unable to make broad generalizations based upon no factual data? I weep for humanity That helps a bit! Warlock seems a bit more to my tastes (which is unsurprising as I like the builder games a tad better).
1 question: Is there an option to turn off the crazy rainbow combat grid and just go back to the old way of AOW 1 ? The game looks great! ...and then on comes the disco honeycombs... Hope there's a way to turn that off.
There is only one problem with these videos...making me more frustrated at having to wait for the release at the end of the month ;) Very happy to be watching a strategy game player playing some of the game though :D Reminds me of when I was watching the XCOM videos while waiting for the game to actually be released :)
This game feels like a more in depth heroes of might and magic game. And since I played that series for years. I imagine I'd love this game, sadly my old piece of turd of a PC cant run this. Need to get a new one badly.
Unfortunately, I cannot make any "review" type judgements of the game at this time, both because it's still in pre-release and also because of press embargoes.
dude...........new expansion in about a week glorious Frostlings (FROSTLINGS MASTER RACE!) and Tigrans and Necromancer and new mechanics. LP .....come on.
I played a Draconic Sorcerer, bald war paint all white, colours white, i spread arcane purity across the map with my army of dragons from the dwelling next to my throne.
So this is a civilization type game? i always love your civilization games despite me sometimes falling asleep. No hate though keep up the good work bro
That's awesome and I had no idea your first language was french! I mean Quill18 is such an english sounding name... :P As a Franglais from Montreal, I think I might start commenting in french from now on! Just for teh lols. ;)
It looks like a lot of flanking opportunities are going to waste because Quill is clicking on the enemy unit directly and letting it auto-path instead of manually moving into a flanking position then clicking to attack. It's just like Blood Bowl - can't just rely on the auto-pathing.
Damn Quill, your character looks awesome. Kind of wish the game offered more clothes, since equippables don't seem to change character appearance? (Praying it's not DLC.)
You can be holy in a lot of ways and barring the dwarven nature of the followers, your goddess could pretty easily be lolth, matriarch underground, related to sight a la spiders...
This game reminds me alot of Disciples two, the biggest comparison is the elves like in Disciples aren't a slowly dieing race. Use to drive me nuts that every single fantasy game or book always showed them as a dieing people =/
It is very good and is replayable. There's no real diplomacy or trading like in civ Its more battle oriented. But I love all 3 parts of this game. I now replay part 2 on a slower pc, and play 3rd on a better one.

hell. yes.
I want this
Thanks for this series, Quill - it is really proving helpful to someone who is in the dark somewhat regarding this game.
***** Thanks for that information, mate. I will be sure to check it out when I get the chance.
Dire penguins. They're like penguins, but dire.
honestly, one of the best LP's ive seen and ive watched a ton. it was refreshing to have an actual person to look at while the game played, player reactions are fun to see. also, i appreciated the long character creation. i will have y copy in about two hours! cant wait!
21:40 Yes! It's the same End Turn sound effect from the very first Age of Wonders game :).
Nice :) I've never thought they will make AoW III. One of the best series I've ever played
I wish they had the sound of the other characters ending their turn. (before your turn) I really liked that in the first one.
Dire penguins.... Dedicated to evil.
You guys, this game!
I would say the high elf dreadnought seems like a nice change from the usually magical elves.
Hehe the penguins are dedicated to evil. That made me laugh.
In AoW2 they also had life drain. Vampiric evil penguins.
I like the sound of a goblin dreadnought.
I like it -- that might be what I play in my first "personal" game.
I've figured it out. This game feels like a much better version of Fallen Enchantress!
Yeah. Fallen enchantress always in my opinion lacked depth in the tactical side. I never found a reason to use many of the weapons, it felt like watered down version of heroes of might and magic combat. This to me seems to be a different take on the heroes of might and magic combat with aditional rules and less RNG and changes.

Dire penguin!? Best game 2014-Forever
orc warlord for my first game, whhaaaaaaaaag
I'm quite surprised to see quill have a playthrough of this game. I love it though, its good game and this will definitely be interesting.
Oh yes! Finnaly a non-campaign let's play. Thanx Quill, my good old chap.
This game is pretty cool
this game is out of nowhere for me
holy crap i'm excited now
This game looks awesome! Can't wait to be playing it myself.

Watched the entire stream on twitch and definitely hoping for more.
I'm also looking forward to more :)
And I'm looking forward to some AoW3 from you too. Don't think you can weasel yourself out of this. :)
I wouldn't dare try to weasel out of it! I am eager to get my hands on AoW3 and dive right in :)
13:50 When he finally gets into the game.
+1 for that Urist reference.
Penguins are attacking! Our situation is dire indeed!
Nice work Quill i like all your lets plays....
this game is the child of total war and civ
civ = how you build stuff and make units
total war = combat maps
I agree on the civ part, but Homm 3 in sted of total war.
micahve im agree but room2 is better so better
I can always count on quill18 to have videos of games like this so i can see if its worth buying :D
great video. glad you diddnt stop after the elven campaign quill.
This game looks awesome. I for one cannot wait for release. :D
I'll likely play a dwarf first, because dwarves are awesome. Dreadnought is the most fitting class, I guess, but since it's what you play in one of the campaigns, I'll probably try something else first. A dwarven archdruid sounds ridiculous, so I might go with that.

That helps a bit! Warlock seems a bit more to my tastes (which is unsurprising as I like the builder games a tad better).
I've been needing a new game...8-) Can't wait to get this, it looks great!
The more I see of AoW3, the more I want it :P
Looking forward to the AoW3 series. Thanks Quill.
So between Warlock 2 and AoW3... what's your verdict/preference quill18?
The blindfolds look like sunglasses to me
Yep. Reminded me of TMNT BeeBop.
Ever going to do a let's play of this?
Sneaky "dwarves are hipsters" in there, I like it!
So, I'm seriously in love with this game. Is that a bad thing?
"When a Doctor and a game love each other very much..."
Damnit, Quill...
Yes nice dwarf fortress reference with Urist.
1 question: Is there an option to turn off the crazy rainbow combat grid and just go back to the old way of AOW 1 ?
The game looks great!
...and then on comes the disco honeycombs...
Hope there's a way to turn that off.
That mug you keep drinking out of looks spiffy, where can I get one?
From my cupboard, on the left side of the sink.
quill18 That would result in me depriving you of your spiffy mug, which wouldn't be very nice! (unless you have spares)
Kibbitz Yeah, I really liked his cup too. Looks great for an evening cup of tea
Definitely going to play as a Goblin Archdruid, to be the lord of roots!
It’s 40 dollars now who wants it cheaper
Difference between this and fallen enchantress?
You forgot to give her a big glorious beard. Now what's a dwarf without a beard?
why Brussels?
There is only one problem with these videos...making me more frustrated at having to wait for the release at the end of the month ;) Very happy to be watching a strategy game player playing some of the game though :D
Reminds me of when I was watching the XCOM videos while waiting for the game to actually be released :)
I love the look of this game, but the pacing makes me wonder whether it is the most LP friendly. I can imagine a lot of Auto-Resolved battles
Awesome! Was hoping youd do more AOW3. Any chance of some multiplayer with kailvin, shen or your regular buds?
Did... he get beard options for a female dwarf?
All dwarves have beards, ALL of them.
Dwarves have a little french in'em.
Entropic Radar The question is, do they have them 'everywhere' and i mean armpits, chest and they're *ding dong*s?
I've never been stupid enough to ask a dwarf, maybe you can do so.
+Colonel Lemons A GIRL WITH A BEARD WHY.....
cant wait to try this game out. :D
This a rather weird question, but i cant select the resolution i want to play in ?
32:28 haha water and lava next to each other. Cool, infinite cobblestone generator! Oh shit, wrong game.
make this a series please
Female Dwarves are less common then Female Taurens?
were you very dehydrated before you started playing?
This reminds of me Elemental, War of Magic, but finished
I want to try that myself. How could i get games copy?
"What class/race combo are you going to play in your first game?"
Why do you want to know? YOU DON'T KNOW ME.
Use your ranged weapon of the hero more often! They can level up safely that way..
Yes! Dwarves! Thanks!
This game got character creation! =O
I think i will buy this game, because i loooooove character creation!
this game can't come out soon enough :C
An Elven Dreadnought like the true hipster I am
This game feels like a more in depth heroes of might and magic game. And since I played that series for years. I imagine I'd love this game, sadly my old piece of turd of a PC cant run this. Need to get a new one badly.
Quill can you play the commonwealth campaign?
Nevermind
Liked after the protip came on screen
My man do you need to drink that munch I love the let's play just put the cup down
dire penguin
SOLD!!!
Game of the Year, all years!
But really, this game looks awesome.
cuando va a salirrr para descargarlo (=::::O
Dwarves ? You really chose Dwarves? You just catapulted yourself so high in my TH-cam book Quill
So, you read EVERY comment quill? Then you know upon reading those words, that i went through an emotional roller coasting watch these four videos :(
High Elf Sorcerer or Arch Druid. Also... please MOAR Age of Wonders? Like... regularly? *-*
Dire penguins? Fucking sold!
Quill long term appeal for you?
Unfortunately, I cannot make any "review" type judgements of the game at this time, both because it's still in pre-release and also because of press embargoes.
quill18
OK no problem. I think you enjoyed exploring the game though, uncovering all of its secrets :)
dude...........new expansion in about a week
glorious Frostlings (FROSTLINGS MASTER RACE!) and Tigrans and Necromancer and new mechanics.
LP
.....come on.
I already have the game at home. But it won't install because I still have to wait till 31st March :(. Damn it.
Actually rouge is the colour red. :)
French is my first language, so I'm aware of that. I figured the makeup thing would make more people take notice.
That's awesome and I had no idea your first language was french! I mean Quill18 is such an english sounding name... :P As a Franglais from Montreal, I think I might start commenting in french from now on! Just for teh lols. ;)
Woohoo! AoW III Gameplay!
Is the "Name every city Brussels" a livestream in-joke? I missed the beginning of this tradition.
In Quilltopia, every city is a proud french city of Brussels.
But you should be drinking from your ... Necromancer's skull cup during this game
Way to go Leonard!
It seems that dire penguins are "Dedicated to Evil"...
You can be holy in a lot of ways and barring the dwarven nature of the followers, your goddess could pretty easily be lolth, matriarch underground, related to sight a la spiders...
i prefer the early game in this game because its more about exploring and gathering recourses.
how is that cup not empty!
game reminds me of HOMM3 especially with its spellbook design
all dwarf prefer being underground or in a cave than on the surface
Draconian Warlord, Destruction/Fire/More Fire specialties
Either Human Dreadnaught or Goblin Theocrat.
Such awesome, such little time :(
This game looks like it'll replace Disciples Two as my favourite fantasy TBS.
don'teventalktomeaboutdisciples3.
This game reminds me alot of Disciples two, the biggest comparison is the elves like in Disciples aren't a slowly dieing race. Use to drive me nuts that every single fantasy game or book always showed them as a dieing people =/
RyanFGNM
That's because Tolkien said so.
And everybody has been copying Tolkien.
Is this game any good? Is it anything like Civilization V, or?
It is very good and is replayable.
There's no real diplomacy or trading like in civ
Its more battle oriented.
But I love all 3 parts of this game. I now replay part 2 on a slower pc, and play 3rd on a better one.
This game is a mix between Civ 5, the original AOW games, Total War and Heroes of might and magic. It suits everything
Chris G Well, I played any of the games mentioned, except Civ V, but if it even remotely has anything close to Civ V, I may purchase it.
Damalycus I enjoyed the trading aspect a lot in Civ. V. It made the game creative and unique.
during combat movement. Think D&D movement. Attack of opportunity and everything else
that unit revive because of the buff up there
