    I have had this cot for 2 years and always struggled putting it together until I watched this video and put together the way you did and now it’s easy AF! Thanks man!

    My friend has one of those cots. He's a big dude ,6'2" 380lbs he got the next size up from the one in the video. Real nice sturdy construction. The canvas is thick and durable. The metal isn't cheap and thin. Great cot , but definitely not something for backwoods camping. If you are a weekender, car camping or setting up a hunting base camp then they are really great.

    Chris I found your TH-cam channel a couple weeks ago really enjoying it in my free time. Your well detailed videos make for a really good video I’ve seen a lot of outdoor channels and you my brother have the best I have seen. Cheers from Southern Ontario.

    I use the Colman cot that is simular. I suggest a pad under it for winter camping. The sleeping bag is smushed under and loses insulation value. 15'F with a 0'F bag was chilly on the bottom. In a hot tent no problem. Great for storing stuff too under it.

    I have been looking for some sort of an easy bed solution for winter camping. These cots look pretty nice but, as you mentioned, they are a little over the top to carry if you are doing any sort of hike. On our last trip, my wife and I constructed a double bed out of logs and it worked great; however, it took us most of the day to make the thing lol. Perhaps there is no easy way to get a bed when you are winter camping. It seems that nothing comes easy when you winter camp but that is all part of the joy, and sense of accomplishment that you feel when you are in the wilderness. Thanks for sharing!

    That's epic I look forward to hearing how you folks enjoy your rest. My bed at the cabin is a cot and I've had guests before. So yeah I'm interested your take on comfort levels. I've found that because the middle sinks in a bit if you sleep wrong your shoulder will be stiff to the point it can't be used for a day. Laying on your back recommended. 2 people try for the same.

    • @TheWoodedBeardsman
      @TheWoodedBeardsman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I camp, I always sleep on my back. My shoulders are too big LOL. Heck, even when I sleep at home, same issue!

    • @danthomas9077
      @danthomas9077 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I flipped a quad 30 something years ago and broke my back, arthritis in my back today keeps me from being able to sleep on my back, have to sleep on my side, it's about 3-4 hours max I can sleep before my shoulders ache. I've thought about a mattress with a hole or trough in it for my shoulder to lay in, kind of hard cutting a hole in my mattress, but a cot would be easy to put a pocket of sorts for a shoulder to lay in... ya gave me an idea... gonna have to find me a cheap cot I can cut a hole in.

    There are some cool mods you can do with these style cots. There are tent canopies available and also bug net systems too. The US military has used this style cot for a long time. Good video!

    Lol, nice cot. I still have the old "really old" military wood frame cot. I just can't seem to part with it even though I can't bring it anywhere because of the weight. It still works really good. Thanks for the vid.

    Hi Chris: I've been using a similar cot for years & the main reason I 've left it to car camping is , its bulkiness. Brian 77

    I see you use a snow trekker .. I use the same one ... I really like it .. I pack in on mules so weight isn't that big a factor .. still important but not like backpacking.. we don't have snow very often so I stay on the ground .. every time I sleep on a cot or a hammock i get cold .. Thanks!

    Been looking at those. I often get a sore back car camping and it's hard to get off the ground in the morning, and standard size cots are too small for me. I have a few other products of theirs and they make great stuff

    • @TheWoodedBeardsman
      @TheWoodedBeardsman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, aside from the weight, I'm sold. I would for sure bring one for winter camping. Didn't much like sleeping on bows nearly as much. Very sturdy product.

    • @usernick8928
      @usernick8928 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only way I've seen to carry a cot and save weight, is to just have a large tube of fabric. Cut a couple poles, hang it like a stretcher, sit it up on a couple logs or rocks. It would be a little more your style anyhow

  • @martinadejaquiz2482
    @martinadejaquiz2482 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    well, that's quite an improvement over what you and jeremy had going in the last outing. shame you can't have your stove heated tent with a completely water proof floor sewn-up high on the sides since you and jeremy pitch the tent directly on the frozen lake. personally i would want the cot too w/o a doubt. glad to see miss Courtney again! lovely lady! thumbed up!

    • @TheWoodedBeardsman
      @TheWoodedBeardsman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure, but 20 lbs isn't so bad in a sled. I carried most of the weight to this spot including two cots...but no, not backpack!!!

    Ritz Carlton ... Ritz Carlton. Need to have my new designed shelter system. Cabled (or John-cord) shelter system, 12x16 tarping, can sleep 1-2-3-4 people in net hammocks, ... and the (inside safe) John fire-can heating/cooking/eating unit.

    Wow, 400 lbs, I could use that. I'm about 350 lbs (due to a touchy thyroid). Perhaps I'll go camping myself sometime if I get one of these, might be just what I need to trim down those numbers. Now if only I had a lake full of fish.
