- Ed Ruscha is one of the most important living artists and currently the subject of a major retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Here we explore how he got his start in the art world, and what it took to get him into MoMA today.

And as for Ed Ruscha's artwork, he stylishly delineates the power of words and elevates them, what's not to admire? We all speak and read thousands of words every day, he's taken something that we all take for granted most of the time and by isolating it has caused us to slow down and think. That's worth recognizing and celebrating.
Very well said. Thanks!
You are opening up undiscovered corners of my art loving mind!
Thanks Ricky!

Thanks so much for watching!
I really enjoy your videos - your knowledge and your authentic, friendly style. You are now on my top ten list of people I would like to have dinner with, so if you ever come to Israel dinner's on me!
This would be amazing! You’ve got a deal :)
Chris, this was so interesting. I'm particularly struck by the juxtaposition of natural powers -- mountains, fire -- and written language, which is so distinctly *human*. Also, coincidentally, I just finished S3 of Only Murders in the Building last night, and a Ruscha work is hanging in Charles's apartment (Nice, Hot Vegetables). Hope you're well --
Great to hear from you Rachel! And thanks for watching. And this might convince me to finally watch Only Murders in the Building!
This is good. I like to think that while Pop Art reclaimed the object after Abstract Expressionism's demise, Ruscha's words are, in fact, abstract. What does the word 'table' have in common with an actual table? We must learn the connection for ourselves. In Ruscha's art the connection between the words and image is often hard to discern.
Ceci n’est pas une pipe.
@@christopherwestpresents Yes! A proto-conceptualist for sure. I think that picture was one of the most interesting pieces of all the Surrealists.
"Chouinard" , in french slang it means "crybaby". Grettings from Paris
Perfect. Thank you! And thanks for watching!
I haven't watched CBS Sunday Morning since Charles Kuralt hosted the show. 😂
I liked Charles Osgood too!
