  • I have been trying to work on making videos with as little to no slomo as possible. It is getting ridiculous, every video is "cinematic" because it was shot at 120fps! That's crap. Trying to make something super compelling with 24fps is pretty hard anymore, because we are so bought into the 120fps. Don't get me wrong, I love slomo, it's super cool. But recently I have been trying to get better videos with sound and 24fps. Enjoy.

    I agree with you. So many times I’ll lean on slo mo as a crutch. Good work. Keep rockin that 5D4. My favorite full frame!

    I just subbed! You are extremely talented. I came here from your video on "Depression" shot with the Fuji X-T3. You're color grading is also amazing. Looking forward to future videos of yours!

    Just wanted to throw out (like a few others), that as far as colour grading goes, you're spot-on! Really great grade and makes me excited for my C-Log upgrade (when I can finally get a few weeks where I don't need my camera). Cheers!

    Really love how this turned out! You inspired me to try 24 (23.976) fps for an engagement story type video I shot this past weekend (also with 5DIV and Crane 2 stabilizer that I rented). It certainly is quite a bit harder to do without any slow motion, but I'm glad I tried it as I really like the end result. It's a very different dynamic but it works well for telling a story, I think.

      Hey man, I'm so sorry that I missed this comment, from 2 years ago! I really appreciate you taking the time and letting me know all this. I love shooting in 24 and mixing in slomo (nowadays) but I'm really glad that I forced myself to practice something different (offer than slomo). It really helped me a lot.

    I'm guilty of the hardcore slo mo. I agree with you, it's over used. I have planned videos that tell more of a story rather than just slow down the footage and set it to good tunes. Although I'm sure I'll be guilty of doing it again in the future. Either way... nice work! The footage looks great. I need to send my 5D off for C-Log.

    • @NickRiceFilm
      @NickRiceFilm  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man! I still will use slo mo, just trying to teach myself to get the supporting shots in 24fps. I just became so reliant on using slo mo for supporting shots. It's all about balance and I'm personally really trying to use the slo mo like a seasoning and pepper it in with all the others. I totally agree with you tho.

    i have experienced pretty bad rolling shutter when shooting in 4k, but your footage doesn't seem to have that problem. did you notice it at all? if so, did you use anything in post to reduce it?

    • @NickRiceFilm
      @NickRiceFilm  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      jacobloganbarth it was only bad, much like most dslr’s in 4K, when you shook it like a madman. But when you actually took time to control movements and angles, I found it wasn’t too bad. But it is there. I didn’t do anything in lost to help it. That’s what I found with that camera.

    You have a new crop with the canon CLog ? 1.27x or always 1.76x ?

  • @_jviewsfilms24

    i have a 1dx mark ii and i dont know why canon does not give the option to download the clog to the 1dx mark ii.

    • @NickRiceFilm
      @NickRiceFilm  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      J Views because canon sucks for doing stuff like that. I’m really glad I switched from canon. I had a 1 dx ii and really liked it, but LOG footage with 10 bit is so nice to have in body.

    did you shoot this in 24p or 23.94? im trying to see what the difference is or if there is a difference

    • @NickRiceFilm
      @NickRiceFilm  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peter DiBussolo shot in 23.94. I’ve never tried the 24 mode. I’m sure it’s not that much different, if there is even a difference.

    • @Ruffneck101
      @Ruffneck101 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're the same in look, however a lot of displays can't natively play exact 24p, but can play 23.976p. Longer clips in 24p on a display that doesn't play exact 24p will eventually cause the audio and video fall out of sync. Unless you have a specific purpose for it, stick to 23.976p.

    Boom! I was skimming Mark IV videos as I'm interested in buying one. It was so frustrating to skim through all these ''cinematic'' videos and to try to find a video with no slomo. That ''cinematic'' term is more like ''youtubic'', cuz slomo has actually almost nothing to do with cinema...

    • @NickRiceFilm
      @NickRiceFilm  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally agree with you. 100 percent. I like slomo but please stop using it for EVERYTHING.

      Love the lens. I actually got the 28-70 Sigma lens and it’s honestly my main lens. I just want to say because of this video I ended up upgrading my 5D Mark 4 to have C-Log immediately. With that being said and just filming with the setting a little. I see that you didn’t use LUTs on this but did you adjust anything on the C-Log settings for this because this film just looks phenomenal.

    • @NickRiceFilm
      @NickRiceFilm  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ChristianChavez3 I was so happy when I got C-LOG. It really changed that camera, for me. But honestly, I don't remember what settings I changed, if any. I think I left it as is. And thanks so much, I really appreciate your kind words.
