Hi Love all your vids. Do you know if a 1978 Maico clutch case/cover will fit on the 81/82 490 engine.

Thanks. I am not sure that they would fit since they use different part numbers. 78 and 79 have the same part number and then 80-82 have the same part number. Since they changed the part number in 1980, means they changed something about that part. Whether the change is significant enough that it is incompatible I don't know since I have never had a 78 cover to compare.

@@Maicowerk Hi thanks I was looking online and i can't find any info so i was just asking around to see if anyone had any idea about this. I seen a clutch case on ebay and it said 78-82 so might have to just bite the bullet and buy the 78 cover. Thanks again and keep making the great videos.

@@thomasscott199 Sure thing. It may fit, the reason they say 78 to 82 is because 78 is the first year of the magnum motors and the engines are very similar in design (the clutch cover is completely different from 77 and before). So it's possible they fit, but I don't know why the part number difference.

@@Maicowerk Yes you are right just read they have different part numbers so i think i might hold off until a good 81/82 cover comes along. Thanks again 👍

Where are you located? How do you trail ride these bikes, it seems like all I can do is go fast, I tried to trail ride a few times but just didn’t have the low end I needed, I have an 1981 490 and probably keep it for life, I just love that bike so much , feels like it was made for me.

Crazyhero 1924 Lots of places. Koestler in germany makes new parts. Sometimes ebay, some parts like bearings are standard and you can get from any bearing company. On my website for maico specific parts you can go to Links and Maico and see the various places to get parts.

U ever try making or buy ???a clutch weight / flywheel.like 12+ oz. But love those bikes gr8 vids

the 81/2 is better....all the chain and clutch weight is spinning forward and adds momentum...don't really know how ,just does. Stalls less runs down lower....clutch works perfect if you don't use it much , which you don't need to much. the whole bike is also much lighter feeling. the gs motor with the big flywheel is the real deal....so easy to ride.
