- It's yet another shop day here at MacDonald Auto. Today we install some new wheels and tires as well as a lift kit on this 2005 Chevy Colorado. Had a bit of fun making this video as well as a lot of headaches!! Hope you enjoy

Dang lifts for these are so much simpler than I thought. New torsion keys, add a leaf, shackles, and shocks.

You wont need new shocks for this kit.

Your truck must be a 2wd. It would be pretty simple to install coil spring spacers on the spring. Relatively inexpensive, however, you may want to add a couple shocks to go along with that setup to avoid over extending the factory setup. And if you want to pay a little extra, you just need to swap out the spring with a lift spring rather than the spacers. But otherwise, very do-able and pretty simple with a few tools and a floor jack

I put a 2 inch lift on my Colorado using a strut spacer from a Toyota Tacoma. There are a few different companies that make lifts for the strut version of the 2004-2012 Colorado/canyon
This video helps me out a lot. I have an 08 Chevy Colorado. I just have a question, is it necessary to measure the length of the tension bar bolts if your gonna put them in at a different height anyway?
Theoretically yes, since the keys are meant to change the angle of the key to the bar without changing the bolt length, but honestly, just install And adjust it to what you feel is what you want.

Add a leaf is a bad idea. terrible ride. I used Suspension Maxx torsion Keys they are adjustable from 1-3 inches. I added a Rancho 4" also for 7 inches of lift so I could fit 33" x 10x 20 under my colorado.
My buddy is pretty well only using this truck to haul around his ego! So add a leaf is all he really needs! That truck is allergic to dirt, so it's not getting abused for as long as he owns it!

you can get one for $1,400 (without shocks) off suspension connection. ($1,800 with shocks)

I have the 2007 version of this truck with almost 300K on it. Drives good. Great truck. It's simple, yet modern, in design. Traction control is a little iffy. The TPMS system sucks in it. Changing the oil filter when doing oil changes is a bit rough. There's a little down spout under the filter for excess oil to spill from that needs to be bigger, oil will spill, have a big drain pan for that. When it's time to do front rotors, you have to remove the front wheel hub assembly, that was fun, but doable under the shade tree for sure. You won't be disappointed if you get this truck. It would be a great 'first truck'
I had an 09 4x4 crew cab that got written off recently. Replaced it with a 10 4x4 crew cab with lower kms. Love these trucks!

The passenger side is longer because the exhaust heats up the torsion bar and makes it sag quicker than the driver side

So how did the front lift work if it came out lower than stock before the install, and you had to crank up the torsion bars to get the front lifted? Seems like the lift you choose was poorly designed . You could have save money just cranking up the front, and put either a block or add a leaf in the rear.
It was lower when I installed the front because I had no tension on the torsion bar keys yet. They're designed in a way that you can crank on them past what the factory torsion keys will allow. You could try cranking the factory keys, but they might max out before your desired height.
Also, the rear was just an add a leaf.

Cheap lift kits like that make for a bad ride. Unless you invest in a good suspension a body lift is better.

Where did you get the head gear? can you listen to tunes on them?
Once you remove the bolt and the key on the T bar, is it easier to remove the bolts on the other side of the t bar so that I can gain access to the lower control arm bolt? I need to replace the lower control arm and I think the Tbar is in the way.
I am not looking forward to doing this replacement. I am getting a lot of squeaking when I am turning my wheel from the suspension. I figure it’s coming from the lower control arm bushings.

What did you end up doing for the rubbing in the front?
I believe the owner just cut out part of the plastic inner fender that was rubbing.

Yes. A simple quick lift kit. There are crazier options out there

I ordered a maxxcam 3" torsion key lift through there website. Not sure if it the cheapest option. BDS has a 2" add a leaf on eBay $68. EBay has a lot of options on TORSION 🔑

I can't recall exactly, but I believe they are zero offset/8 wide
31s you can fit those stock
I know this is old but I thought it’d be worth mentioning, with a little massaging I got 285/70/17’s on my 08 Canyon, 17x9 rims with a +10 offset, I do not have a lift on my truck, although with the extra 2.5” of clearance they would fit a lot better
Do Chevy Colorado parts fit on Isuzu I-series trucks?
I believe if they work off the same platform but have different badging, that it will work. We don't have many, if any at all, of these trucks here on the west coast of Canada. Honestly, I didn't even know they existed!
Did a 4" in my driveway 2 yrs ago. Made a helluva difference in the truck

They're 31/10.5R15 and I believe an 8 wide, 0 offset rim.
@@macdonaldauto1792 My stock 04 Z/71 4WD runs on stock tire size P265/75/15 which equal 30.6x10.4x15 less than a 1/2 inch height and width than 31x10.5x15.

It's a good idea, since youll be pushing the height limit of the factory shocks.
Came across your video while searching for information on replacing a LCA on an 08 Colorado. To replace the LCA do I need to remove the torsion bar key bolt and move the bar and key assembly to the rear of the truck to get the front end of the bar out of the LCA? Or can the LCA be removed without moving the torsion bar back? Thanks for the video.
Yea, you'll need to pull the torsion bar. As long as you relieve the pressure off the torsion bar, it should slide right out. Maybe use a hammer to knock it free!

Amazon has a key and shackle set made by wulf suspensions for around 100. It say 2-3 inch lift but thinks its more like a 3-5 i clear 33s
