Imagine never having a peaceful night in 50 years. Halloween is coming up in a few days and that is the worst day of the year for Mook and his family. I wish there could be a St. Paul's Appreciation Day on Halloween and folks would go down there and cook dinner for Mook. I am glad a few people watch this and learn about it and the power of rumors. An Urban Legend. no?
I grew up in memphis and friends and I have driven there to the infamous voodoo village. There were definite tales about voodoo village growing up in north Frayser. But I guess those stories were all around town. Memphis is full of some interesting history. However the city seems to have fallen in quite a disarray.
I went to school in the service , on the navy base in Millington / Memphis, for aviation mechanics back in the 80's. A couple of the guys I met told me about this place, and the spooky stories surrounding it. We went one night and drove by it or through it. It's been so many years that I can't remember. But I do remember that I was scared a bit and fascinated. I would love to be able to go through it and talk to the locals and see all the unique buildings and art up close. It's too bad that people have damaged their relationship with outsiders, but I am glad that this video exists.
Yeah, I lived in Covington which is just north of Millington and I heard stories all the way up there when I was in high school. People got so scared they hallucinated if they went down there. One girl said she went and there was a bonfire in the field and she saw faces in the smoke!
Id absolutely love to visit this place. No cameras or recorders. Just a good conversation with the locals. I love art and it seems to have quite a bit of it.
I've been to Voodoo Village many times, I live in Memphis- it's not like ppl think, they're just as human as anybody else, just have a different way of being/believing, really- I really didn't even get that vibe from the ppl that live there, it was like being in one of those small Mississippi places.. Ppl seem to be very comfortable and have an old fashion way of living.. Now there is some that have voodoo'ed men, jars filled with things, using hair, and other stuff- that is true, my friend Chris Ferguson had it happen to him. But, mostly just good ole country folk out that way..
HI, well ... you can just go down there and go up to the gate and holler hello. if mook is around he might let you in to look around the front of the propperty. he might rib you a little, but it's good natured. he drives a tow truck so is out a lot. take a little money with you to make a donation. it is good if you're a Mason! It's a wonderful quiet place. I especially like the sound of the wind in the pines.
Mason is not a good thing this is all Illuminati bullshit that's what it is even your picture says it showing one eye covering one eye yeah I caught on fucking weirdo
This place is historically amazing!!!! The artist of this place is sharing one of his talented gifts from GOD. He's telling us a story through his art. Let it be! Amen.
It seems like an interesting place to learn about the history of masonry and Memphis collectively.I would be interested in meeting and speaking with him however it seems as if a lot of people have ruined the chances of that by spreading negativity
This was supposed to be a much longer video, but i did this little edit real quick and we just decided to let it be as it. Short and sweet. Mook has no help in maintaining that place and I don't think his kids will take over. My friend Perry has tried to help out down there for many years, but hasn't been able to get Mook to really let him do much. But the place is Mook's and if he doesn't want help, than he won't have any. The place will melt back into the ground and that will be a shame.
I wish had spent more time shooting interviews with people on the street. The few times we went out to shoot we just happened to talk only to african-americans, but it was white people that caused all the trouble down there and spread MOST of the stories. I wish there was a chance to shoot some more of this but I moved to germany this summer to live, so if it is going to happen someone else would have to shoot it for me.
Born and raised in Memphis, and I’ve been over there when I was younger. It was a bit scary and some strange things occurred when I went. But we made it out safe. I can’t speak for everyone but nobody jumped out to harm us. My mom told me that she knew ppl over there and they were sweet. So, idk… my experience was weird. I just thank god nothing bad happened.
Just saying you shouldn't be taking pictures videos of voodoo village they are being harassed all the time I'm a Christian and you should respect what they do not harass them they are nice people they respect you you respect them.
Thank you for posting this, like he said, if you want to know something all ya got to do is ask! Is there somewhere online I can get more background on this video, it kind of jumps around and I'd love to hear the full story!

Thanks. This place was the Boogie Man of my childhood. It was nice to get some clarity. Seems as if they did go after the teenaged invaders it might have been that they just got tired of being bothered. Thanks, again.
Mook told me to imagine what it was like to never have a single night of good sleep because of the harassment. It went on since 1961 and continues today. They especially dreaded Halloween! I don’t know how much retaliation they ever took, but I expect it was merely defending their home from attacking jerks. I wish we had had a chance to Interview more people, especially white people, who had stories about coming down there or even just the rumors that they heard about people who had gone down there. We ran out of time and money before we got that far with it. Maybe I can find someone with a little bit of video ability that can work on that some day. I no longer live in Memphis.
Eric Wilson I don't know a ton as I never actually went; though we talked about it periodically. My experience is from my older cousin who grew up in my house and who did go. I was 10 in 1973 when he went at 15 or 16. Watching some videos recently reminded me of basically what I had heard. I had envisioned a cove or cul de sac where the bus would have been said to be; the supposed attempt to block invaders in. The chasing with bats and rocks and bottles was the outcome and the thrill of supposed danger was the reason for going. I don't think my cousin and friends knew anything about the place except "voodoo" and they'll chase and attack you. There was a story told by a group of my cousin's friends of how they dressed one of them up in blackface and sent him walking down the road. Then, drove up behind him with a cap gun and pretended to shoot him and drag him into the car to get a rise from the inhabitants. Again, thrill seeking and maybe even made up; I don't know. We lived in the Summer Berclair neighborhood at the time, so across town was a little exotic as well. When I was in high school, we were in Horn Lake, MS so I was much closer, as it's kinda off Raines Rd. and the Southwest Twin Drive-In, where we went most weekends, was relatively close. Yet, I still never went. As I am now 55, all this stuff holds a nostalgic fascination for me. Thanks.
I lived in Memphis for years. You can feel a bad feeling in the air before you get to it. I never seen it to scared to after the hair stood up on my arms didn't want to. It's a bad place.
Hi KeKeW. Actually I think you would find it a beautiful peaceful place. was there four or five times and when I left I felt calm and collected. It is a christian church and it uses folk art to teach. The fear you felt was understandable considering the false rumors that built up the hysteria over the years, I heard about it 50 miles away in Covington when I was a kid, Unreal. You could drop by and visit on saturday, just be sure to take a little donation for the upkeep! Mook likes to kid around and give people a hard time, but he's a great man (who hasn't had a single night's peace from crazy people harassing him since about 1963.)
The reputation is bad, but the reality is far different. It is a place for healing. All of the stories about it are false. Urban legend. But I love the stories!
Hi people, l need your help. I live in Maryland now but back in the mid 70's my father was stationed there at the USMC base right next to the village. I was just a toddler. I am so convinced and believe that my father had a curse put on him from this village. The reason why I believe this is because I know my dad can be a real big ass!! My mother told me that the village was upset about that base being built there and the village always got a lot of bad people messing with them along with the marines. I know the village does not deserve the bad negativity that they receive from most folks . What I'm trying to find out is if there is any possible way to contact them to return pictures that was taken back then probably by my dad and to see if they would help me lift the curse off of me. Please help if you can. Thank you!
As far as I know it is still there. Just go down one Saturday and see if Mook is out there working on maintenance. Go to the gate and yell hello! Don't let him bluff you. He will kid around but is a nice guy. Tell him Slowpoke sent you. Be sure to take a donation for paint and supplies. 30 bucks would make him happy. It is expensive to maintain the place. It is a place for meditation. Informal meditation is fine. Listen to the sound of the wind through the pines. Go easy on the picture taking.

VV is near Westwood(South Memphis). Back in the 70s, a carload of us would drive by there. It was creepy. I always thought the people there belong to a Haitian form of Catholicism and practiced voodoo or maybe mysticism. Who knows.
yeah, it's amazing to me the power the name voodoo village has had. i grew up in covington, tn about an hour north of memphis and even up there in the 1970s people would completely freak out with crazy stories about voodoo village. if you go there a night zombies will come out and roll a school bus across the entrance to trap you on the dead end and then they will put a log under your car so you can't drive. then they will eat your girlfriend or shoot you...or both.
@@bryanbulmer6716 definitely isn’t making the bus part up. Im from Memphis and this happened to my older brother and some friends when they went out there in like 06-07
Please do. My documentary never really got the proper attention-from me that is-that it deserved. I should have interviewed some white people about the place because it was their outrageous rumors and legends about the the 'village' that caused the place to become infamous. Those stories wenf far and wide and were so wild. Crazy stuff! My friend Perry who paid to shoot the video and who also was a great friend of Mook was an unofficial protector of the village. He loved that place and so do I. Sadly Perry died a few years ago and I will have to talk to his wife to see if the footage is still around. Not sure how Mook is doing.
@@earlfenwickhe's still alive?? 🤔 I thought he passed in 2009 I thought he shot himself in the head after his girlfriend didn't want him to be with him no more someone sent me videos in 2017 of all the events there but someone stole my T-Mobile Roku so I don't have the videos no more I thought the place was torn down in 2020
Mook, the man who is speaks longest is the grandson of the late Washington Harris aka 'Doc'. Doc was a healer and counselor type of person. A master Mason as well. He envisioned the art and the temples and Mook built it more or less. Mook has a brother and sister who also live on the property. It is several acres all together. There are a few houses and several 'temples' that look more like workshops on the outside. There is quite a bit of art to see outdoors and it has been a struggle for Mook to keep it all repaired. The temples are not open for viewing.
One thing I'm wondering so much is did they do election things when they should take their rights to choose a president or something because they're still a part of USA
I was born and raised here in Memphis. I love my city! Ride the goat in their underwear or whatever Lol 😂But I respect them and their beliefs. We all have a right to believe in what we want.
I am not sure if he really understands what the mason symbol is. From what I understand of it, it is rich white men. People tend to bad mouth things they do not understand it. From this video, it does not seem like a voodoo place. Just leave them alone.
Oh he understands fully! Mook is a lifelong Mason and it is a huge influence upon him and was the primary inspiration for the whole place. (I haven't shown all the footage of the artworks yet.) I don't have the full grasp of it, but there is a fascinating story about how an English officer during the Revolutionary War basically trolled the American Masons by initiating an African American man as a Mason. From there begins the long history of the black Masons in America . They are real Masons and have been treated rather shabbily by the executive (white) branches. Look up the story of Prince Hall. It would make a good movie.
The Masons aren't necessarily rich, but I have no doubt that many may wish to be. Nothing new there. Sure, most of them are white but I don't think it is necessarily a nefarious organization at heart. Perhaps I am naive, but I have always seen them as a mostly benevolent organization that does a lot of good things that the government doesn't always fund. Like children's hospitals for example. They do help to promote their members and that may come at the expense of the ''competition''. I don't think they really have any secrets (the magical kind that is), they just want us to think they do. Umberto Eco's book Foucault's Pendulum lays it out much better than The Davinci Code.
What piss me off is that he constantly dragging the fact that we all dont know anything about voodoo village yet he aint telling us shit either 😂 🤷🏽♂️
Well. Since when does the master tell his secrets to every 🦗 walking down the street. He told us the work was inspired by the Bible to teach and help people. He said that if you want something you need to ask the person which has it. He didn't mention youtube surfing!
In the 70s after a movie or two at the South West Twin Drive-In in SW Memphis, we would pile into the station wagon and head for Voodoo Village. Of course the legend was that if you dared to venture to VV--and you were white--once you passed by the 'Voodoo Village' house you would come to the dead end of Mary Jane St. As you were turning around to leave----the natives would pull out an old school bus blocking your way--and then who knows what would happen. One time we went there in the 70s we saw that old school bus backed into the bushes----it scared the daylights out of us. Just after we turned around a passel of hootenannies came running after us chucking rocks. So much fun! Memphis was a great town in the 60's--early 70's but then King was murdered--then the crime came and the Bolsheviks began bussing and that ruined the once great schools in Memphis. But Memphis was once a decent and safe place to live.
Exploring with Josh brought me here

Those stories wenf far and wide and were so wild. Crazy stuff! My friend Perry who paid to shoot the video and who also was a great friend of Mook was an unofficial protector of the village. He loved that place and so do I. Sadly Perry died a few years ago and I will have to talk to his wife to see if the footage is still around. Not sure how Mook is doing.
go for it!
Normal people doing their own thing, very cool man that Washington.
I was scared of that place back in the early 90s cause like he said word of mouth. People are scared of what they don't understand x
I came here because of the old Koopsta Knicca song. Mane I would love to cultivate my gift and help other people find and grow theirs.
Hey there. I am so glad you like it! I hope Mook is hanging in there.
@@earlfenwickhe's still alive?? 🤔 I thought he passed in 2009 I thought he shot himself in the head after his girlfriend didn't want him to be with him no more someone sent me videos in 2017 of all the events there but someone stole my T-Mobile Roku so I don't have the videos no more I thought the place was torn down in 2020
I don't think that happened!
Seems like cool & interesting place
So those men live there? Am confused
The temples are not open for viewing.
thanks for uploading this
One thing I'm wondering so much is did they do election things when they should take their rights to choose a president or something because they're still a part of USA
I was born and raised here in Memphis. I love my city! Ride the goat in their underwear or whatever Lol 😂But I respect them and their beliefs. We all have a right to believe in what we want.

Glad to hear B.B. ! Did you meet Mook?
I'm still scared fuck that 🤦🏽♀🙄
I went back in 2011 very cool creepy looking place.
Voodoo village by koopsta knicca
Wow.
Free Mason!! The sign !

Me and my friends went tonight and at the end of the road a man with a white shirt ran out of last house and chased us
Yes that was one of the stories I heard - even way up in Covington. People got so scared about that pace they woud hallucinate!
Safe Nabors, Memphis was also nice in the 70s, 80s and 90s.
Leave them people along damn
From what I just saw an Illuminati sign how fucked up is that
omg
This evilness isn’t of God
God told me it is. You can feel her presence. More than in church.
Do not go there.
Yawn…
Voodoo is its own spiritual religion.. Its a shame black ppl lost they way.. It was what a lot of us turned to in the beginning.
Exactly
