- Captain Tylor is a man of myth and mysteries. Too many people are unable to see beyond the facade and recognize his achievements. This video will be a historical look at one of the most accomplished space captains to have ever flown across the stars.
I've never seen a video that spoils the whole plot of an anime, which at the same time works so well in convincing people to watch it.
How is it supposed to convince me to watch it when it never tells me what it's called?

Tylor... a great fool or a transcendental genius. Hard to tell! I loved this show!
I err on the side of genius, the opening credits can be seen as him achieving Nirvana.
And he plays a mean game of Shogi, so I think he is very capable, he just does not want to bother with it unless lives are on the line.
Loved how the video was framed as a news report special. Now I know what anime I have to watch next!

What's great about this video is that all facts here are pretty much true. Tylor did accomplish all of these things.
Besides that there are also a couple more of his accomplishments that may be missed on the first glance, or dismissed as simple comic gags, but are very impressive if you think about it.
The first is related to the Raalgun spy Harumi you've mentioned - who is in fact a specialized infiltrator android, not only trained, but actually built to be the best at her job. During the show there were several times when Tylor sneaks up on her when she finishes giving the progress report to her superior. It's a gag, sure, but if you think about it - he manages to locate a professional spy at the exact moment she does not wants to be found, as well as sneaking up on a specialized android with superhuman senses. That's damn impressive.
The second is related to the episode where Azaline and Yuriko go into the Tylor's mindspace to remove the brainwashing chip. On the way to their destination girls do find several elements of Tylors psyche that gets their interest. Specifically his memories of the ladies he met (all pretty much tame), a collection of his subconscious voices (who say nothing that conscious Tylor would not say) as well as the deeper layer of his psyche that is supposed to show his deepest fears, hopes and desires, but is for some reason really lightly populated, showing only 3 elements - fancy chair, fancy table and a bottle of pills. While these objects may be important for Tyler, for girls, as well as us viewers these objects are pretty much opaque, and while hinting at something more give no real clue about Tylor's true motives.
This pretty much means that either Tylor is as plain and uncomplicated as a brick, which is hard to imagine given his consistent successes against incredible odds, or is an incredible intellectual powerhouse, capable of near perfect control of his mindspace even under the influence of the brainwashing chip.
And that's even if you believe that the chip worked. Which is not a certain by a long shot, since even after the chip was implanted Tylor was quite successful at sowing the discord between the Raalgun general and prime minister, foiling the latter's plots.
That's epic, I never quite thought the innerspace episode like that before.
I think it's a bit more than that. If we overanalyze it, this chair, table and pills may represent something out of his previous life. It's clear that Tylor is not just a lucky guy, he can be incredibly smart when he needs to, so perhaps his drifter lifestyle was not something that he was born into, perhaps it was his choice. Maybe in the past he was an influential person, which is represented by chair and table, them being fitting of someone in high position, perhaps some sort of upper management in a company or something like that. A bottle of pills can actually represent some hardships of that life, probably being sleeping pills or antidepressant, meybe even hinting at attempted suicide or thoughts of thereof. So maybe he became tired of being a rat in a cage and choose very simple lifestyle that he can enjoy. He started playing a fool so that toehr people would not put their expectation on him, ehich he probably finds stressfull and in time a mask became his face.
Fortunately he finds a crew that despite putting their expectation on him, also became more than just subordinates - they became his family which refused to abondon him even when he decides to return to his lifestyle of a drifter. Which happened after he was promoted and given control over too much people (probably something that he doesn't want)
For me the most trlling moment about Taylor's truebchaeracter comes when Harmi tries to assasinate him by dropping the stage the crew was planing to use for the beauty contest.
When all the wreck is falling on him, the pilot shot him with a nail gun to push him out of the way...
Those nails were fast enough to reach him in less than a second from at least five feet and *powerful* enough to push him another several feet and dig themselves in the steel wall behing the stage.
The thing is, when we see Taylor he's nailed to the wall of the ship, with a nail in every shoulder and one in he catched with his mouth.
@@lookatthepicture4107 tbh, it is a comedy anime, so it could be just a gag. Which is why it is still open to interpretation wherever he is smart or just lucky. A lot can be interpreted diffirentely depending on the context. But i must say that whatever the author intended as truth, it's a great character nevertheless. Even if he is not smart, he is pretty wise.

I'm a bit confused at how the report stopped just a little bit shy of how Tylor had a nervous breakdown, left the military, and then with the assistance of all of his former crew sabotaged a military shipyard and hijacked his old ship, flying away to places unknown, causing enormous material damage as well as unknown number of casualties in the process. At the time of cold war against Raalgun empire.
That's going to be a real headache to sweep under the rug. :)

The miltary would sweep that under the rug to make tylor look like a hero! Just let him do his own thing or "secret missions" as the UPSF are telling everyone to make sure more people enlist

Just saw this anime... wow
At start i just tought he was just a lucky captain, but slowly and steadly a strange feeling creeped behind my back!
Around half series i finally understood what a lie this show was, an incredibly well done setup to make tylor seem a simple and stupid boy. I admit, it really fooled me, but thanks to this, it made this show from a little above the average to an amazing anime, top 10 for sure. After all, the best thing is simply that the story doesn't tell you a damn thing about the genious part of the protagonist, and if you figure it out it changes everything and yet nothing as the story continues.

This is my all-time favorite anime and this is the perfect video to represent the "Tylor is a genius" side of the genius/Idiot argument about his character. I loved this.
You forgot to mention a crucial detail, Tylor was lucky most of the times especially early on. Later in the series, he tend to do things based on good judgment and foresight but even then he still has some good fortune on his side. Great series non the less.

Another youtube channel showed me this anime and am now watching the OVA's and my god I love how it feels the whole way the OVA's first episode is like top tier movie
To anyone who thinking about watching The Irresponsible Captain Tylor i would highly recommend it it's one of those anime's that i can watch at a very fast speed because the comedy and characters are so fun to watch

It's one of those older shows. However, Nozomi Entertainment has rights to it and uploaded episodes on TH-cam as well as other older anime, like Galaxy Angel (if 2002 is considered old these days), which I want to try and start taking my shilling of it more seriously coming this year.

I used the same exact arguments to troll a friend who hates this anime XD, he could't refute me but still hates the series and specially the MC XD.
Captain Tylor is allot like Mr Bean.
He is successful despite being able to base his achievements on dumb luck.
Tylor also won the hearts of many ladies, but instead of listening to their confessions of love to him, Tylor was too distracted with trying to hide the JAV Video that he was watching in his own room.

I just finished the 26 episodes. It started strong but some of the middle episodes I feel they drag a lot but with Azalyn entering to Tylor's life it made the show engaging. Really a series that should be promoted more if you like space operas.
