    Video quality is much better.
    Something to note.. when you have more lighting (like toward the end of the video) it looks much better.
    Looks like the camera is struggling in the lower light at the first bit of the video.. looks like it's sacrificing frame rate & introducing some smoothing, to maintain a brighter image.
    Great stuff! Looking forward to seeing tests, and more of your room when you get to it. :)

      I had ordered two soft boxes and they came in during the mid point of the video. That's why the 2nd half has better lighting.. 😁
      I have frame rate locked but did have the iso jacked up in the first half.

    Does the shape of the subwoofer cabinet matter? I understand we need a specific internal volume... Most subwoofers are short but deep. Can we get the same results with a cabinet that in shallow but tall as long as we keep the internal volume the same. These will be SEALED sub woofers.

    Finally at this stage and I noticed you used a 1" screw when the plywood is 3/4". Not sure of the driver hole bracket is 1/4" but is there an issue if the screws go thought the wood?

    Hey man great build, I built this same setup but my sub sounds real flat or quiet at 40 to 60 h. My insulation is a little thicker than what you put in, does that affect the sub? I used mineral wool 3 1/2 inches thick. I used REW and the mini dsp hd and it has a big dip at 40 to 60. Any suggestions as to how to fix this? Thanks

    • @hometheatergurus
      @hometheatergurus  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Was it a hammer or just a similar sub? If it's a hammer or another well deigned sub you're just sitting in a null or the subs are out of phase.
      See ep 9, 11 and then maybe 7 if you wanna get real serious.

    • @dsmith4500
      @dsmith4500 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hometheatergurus yes it is the hammer. I only have 1 sub at the moment. Do I still need to phase if it's only 1 sub? I've watched those episodes but I'll have to watch them again

    • @hometheatergurus
      @hometheatergurus  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it's just one sub you're sitting in a null. Ep 11.

    Is the binding post bridged so you can connect the mono cable from the DSP to either terminal? Thanks!

    • @hometheatergurus
      @hometheatergurus  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a positive and negative. Those are never bridged as you'd ground the positive. You'd need 4 posts to bridge posts but we have one driver who's coils are wired in the video with two wires each connected to a post.

  • @kevinm.4784
    @kevinm.4784 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 12" driver is out of stock everywhere. Any thoughts about putting the 15" in a similar box for more output and more low end? Or would the box have to be much bigger?

    • @hometheatergurus
      @hometheatergurus  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The um15 needs a much larger box. If you model it you'll see it requires such a large box you may as well do the 18. If you stuck it in this box you'd lose performance.

    What's the difference between a car subwoofer driver and a home theatre subwoofer driver? All I see is that the car subwoofers use 2 voice coils?

    What are your thoughts on running a um15 in this box??? I’d be very curious what you have to say!! Thanks for the awesome content!

    • @hometheatergurus
      @hometheatergurus  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It won't perform well at all. The UM15 has the same motor as the um12 but requires a box almost as large as the UM18. It's kind of an odd duck as you'd think the enclosure size would model in between the needs of the um12 and um18.

  • @winklerchr
    @winklerchr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lol, threads. Screw threads, not ridges. The words you were looking for matching the screw to use is major diameter. Technically, you'd want to use a pilot drill closer to the minor diameter (thread root) to ensure the threads engage into the material.
