Always thought kelp was something fishermen go out to sea to harvest. Didn't know they're farmed. This is very educational for me. Thank you. I absolutely love your pink white polka-dot sun hat. Stay safe, Stu. 😊👍
Absolutely interesting video. I love eating seaweed and now I know that it should be called kelp. The growing, harvesting and drying process is all new to me. Thanks for another entertaining and learning video.
Great to see local businesses diversified and booming. Such approach will be quite a game changer for the sustained growth and development in the local economy.
I am forwarding this video to many friends and acquaintances, who all like kelp salad - ironically, I myself don’t; I like very soft kelp in soup. Kelp is a superfood in a vegan diet, too!
@@TravelinChina THANK YOU, STU !!! Your videos are always entertaining, educational and full of positive energy !!! We wish your lovely parents come to visit you in China soon. Ask your mates at Oxford and their families, too.
Dear Stu, Just to share with you some of the common seaweeds that are eaten in Japan. There many kinds of seaweeds! All seaweeds are very rich in. calcium n minerals n is good for health. Kelp is the strongest and its good for the bones. Wakame is the kind of seaweed that is mostly used in miso soup or used in vinegarette salad. Hijiki(good for hair) is usually sauted with agetofu, julienne carrots n edamame, seasoned with shoyu mirin in a katsuodashi sauce. Mekabu, the slimy green n thinly sliced, crunchy in texture n is usually eaten with vinegarette dressing. In summer, Japanese usually eat chilled mekabu salad n there is another seaweed that is popularly eaten as a condiment n that is mozuku(thin hairlike seaweed) marinated in vinegarette dressing or Citron/yuzu dressing. You're right, it is beautiful seeing it from the Aerial view. Thank you for this interesting video. Very educational.
This is very high value content for me. I'm a farmer in South East Asia. I dont get to see much about stuff like this in China. Your lotus roots and this video are eye opening. Informative with your own sense of humor, love your videos
If it's only 3 months of harvest in a year that's still 150k. Plus the 9 other months of free time is probably devoted to other sorts of work which probably earns far less than kelp harvesting
they also can have another job during non-harvest time , actually the Chinese government encourages the peasants to do other jobs during the non-harvest time. It means some peasants have two or three jobs. And during the harvest time, most employer will let their employees back to the countryside to harvest the crops and after that the employees will be back, they will not be fired because of harvest.
Love to know more about life beside kelp harvesting, eg what do they do outside of harvesting season, what do families do, if they are not all in kelp farming, income, kids education, life in general, basically. This is so fascinating. With that sort of income, what living standard is like?
Interesting thing! .... Expecially as regards developing Tourism industry as well... That kelp then is edibile, I suppose.... However, to say the Truth I didn't like very much such a scenery! Most of all I liked your rose hat "à pois blanches": I've got one rose à pois blanches too! But yours, as it seems, is even Holly Hobbie Style! I like very much! ☺️

👍👍👍
Ooooh... So the sea is hairy?
天然帅,和帽子无关。
一天10000的收入,天呐,我要去种海带
我一直以为所有海草都叫seaweed,原来海带叫kelp
small, then seaweed. big (3 feet ++) then kelp.

👍👍👍👍👍
作为福建人也会不小心弄错二者的区别,seaweed是紫菜,kelp是海带!
我的家乡!
kelp is very dilicious ,i like kelp soup
