    I actually prefer this to the Russian sleep experiment- the buildup of fear and paranoia is so intense and personal here, and not knowing what the purpose of the experiment truly is or what the effects mean makes it that much more exciting to listen to!

    • @arthas640
      @arthas640 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The Russian Sleep Experiment is overrated in my opinion, it's pretty good but it always felt like the scientists weren't behaving like actual scientists, they were just being assholes in a scientific matter. The characters were more one dimensional to me compared to this story, in this story there's interatction among the characters, there's some character development, and the build up is steady and feels earned.

      @@sketitx6363 what is illogical about suspecting this story would have taken place during the cold war, because that period in time , 40's-70's actually was home to similar types of experiments that actually did happen in America, Canada , the UK, Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia under Stalin. MkUltra amongst it's many different varieties of experiements used sleep deprevation for up to two weeks taking place in hospitals and institutions carried out by nazi scientiests we smuggled into the US under operation paperclip. And like I said there were many other similar stories , they had two goals. To make a soldier be able to walk much further , carry more weight and carry on combat for longer periods of time using amphetstimes and meth on the soldiers , in fact we still give our soldiers tons of amphetamines to this very day, all the Nazis were also given unlimited amounts of high grade meth and they stayed up for a week at a time. The other goal was to not use drugs but other means of sleep deprivation in order to induce total insanity until the person's personality complelety shatters and splits then they use various inhumane methods to mold the new personality into what ever they wanted the person to be , like assassins spies, super soldiers , etc... Look it up there is tons of info in the public domain on this topic of experiments of many different forms of causing sleep deprivation. The fact that you aren't aware of this is honestly pretty much plain laughable dude , you need to educate yourself my friend because you are lacking in basic knowledge of history that isn't all so old. This all took place over the last 70-80 years, and I don't doubt currently still goes on in many forms such as how I already stated we still give our troops large doses of amphetamines to get more bang for their buck.

    I often come back to this story. It's very well narrated and well written. I love the fact that you don't know whether or not anything that happened was real or not due to an unreliable narrator. And not to mention that it does the exact opposite of what most scary stories try to: instead of keeping you up at night, it promotes sleep.
    Oh and this was my very first story that introduced me to this channel about a year or two ago

  • @vik8126
    @vik8126 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    My theory with this story is that they were in a dream-like state, where as time went on the dreams began to work into their reality, if that makes sense. The figure over him, the senses of uneasiness, the weird angles, and the weird events at the end could be their dreams mixing into their reality/extreme hallucinations caused by not dreaming.

I believe that a human (any mammal and bird and maybe any creature with brains) needs sleep the same way as a PC needs its regular HD defragmentation. To sort the information received in orderly way. Theghostking - are u kidding me? Wtf. It's an ok story but there's a lot of stuff that could be tweaked. Idk what it is but it's just a flat story. Don't get me wrong, the story telling is fantastic. The word usage and the voice open your mind up to invite the story into your head but there's just something about it that makes me want more. We can all agree that something strange does happen to us while asleep. And that entering a world where literally anything can happen is a bit mystical. But, like I said, there are many different ways that one could add or create more narrative to enhance the story. I loved the storytellers voice and his different mannerisms, so that's not the issue. The story itself is what needs some more tweaking. But, overall, it was great

When you apologized before that video for not having a good woman voice, I was expecting it to be bad but it wasn't. You did just fine with the voice. Your story tellings are so much better than television and movies. I'm hooked and thank you. You are amazing!

    Beautifully narrated, darlin'! Also, I'm quite sure that I am not the only one who appreciates the wonderful job you did on the multiple accents! You certainly seem to have the skill and talent for great story-telling. I look forward to hearing more from you, as I've now become one of your devoted listeners (now that I've subscribed)!😉. 💕 from 🍁!

    Great. Really great narration. Your intonation is spot on and you deserve 10X more subs. Also I can hear a smidgen of Sean Bean in there. Cheers!

    1 thing that bothers me is that Richardson during an experiment like this probably had regular check ups and an emergency stop like a code word or something

    There was a TV show or Movie here in the U.S. where a bunch of kids allowed their teacher to experiment on them, like this story. One kid didn't like the idea and found out the other kids were dying or getting addicted to drugs. I forget what it was called, but it was good.

    it could be that the constant (but slow and weak) stream of adrenaline is making them paranoid and the fear drives them to madness, as well as the random sounds, i think if the sounds can cause the production of adrenaline, it can also tamper with normal functions of the brain and cause auditory and visual distortion and hallucinations.

    Holy shit, the lovecraftian style fear was real in this, this wasn’t just creepy pasta, you had me peeking out of my covers, seeing shapes in the dark and hearing noises like I was 10 all over again. I was contemplating my fear like when my imagination would get the best of me at night while I’m a tent camping. Holy shit this was scary
