      I'm more worried about the wave of SJW flowing into gaming. I mean Skyrim had Argonian/Nord marriage for crying out loud. I don't want to know how much worse the situation can get. My immersion can't take the shock!

      The game lets you be the master of every guild, the biggest criminal and the biggest hero and no one fucking recognizes it and that doesn't break your immersion? lol.
      Skyrim's marriage system is there so you can do whatever the fuck you want, how is that related to SJWs?

    It's as the game companies grow so massive, the control shifts from the actual developers to the suits who don't care, and probably don't know anything about games.
    As the industry grows this is a sad inevitability.
    It'll happen to CDPR, especially as they've been so insanely successful with Witcher 3. Every big investor in Poland is eyeing up that company, you can bet.

      @Zaric Zhakaron, If only that was the case for most publically traded companies, but what I have seen is companies become slaves to the investors and usually going down the shitter in terms of morality and general quality.

      And I don't really fault those ps4 users that want some of the same features that we can get on pc. That's not unreasonable, you were sold a product with the promise of mods and then let down hard. This whole creation club thing wouldn't even fly if sony wasn't strange about the licensing.

    There is a term called "vote with your wallet" I've heard it from total biscuit. But that's what people should do. If you don't like these changes, don't buy into them, make it so they don't provide a lot of revenue and a ton of negative PR. And things will change. After all, this is an industry and if something makes no money, it will be discarted. If micro transactions make no money. They will eventually phase out.

      There's one problem with that plan, a fatal flaw if you will. You, and likely your followers, are in the 1% of people who know about what is going on and are enacting a plan to attempt to do something about this. Bethesda Softworks gives exactly 0 shits about the collective you. They love their new, insanely loyal fans from the Sony camp who will pour about 100$ (if not more) each into the creation club, as it is obvious they are starved for "mod" content and will pay through the nose for it. It does not matter what we do as PC gamers, because we were never the target audience for this system.

I picture all the important content stuck behind the creation club pay wall. I Will say bye bye Bethesda when that happens. The question is how many other players will do the same? Is this the disgusting future for gaming ?

  • @rasmachris94

    Bethesda; "We won't take original content." *Proceeds to take original content from mod nexus*
    I wonder if it's more scummy for them to lie to consumers and compile those mods for frostfall or if its scummier for them to lie to consumers and steal other peoples work.
    I just hope that the people who worked on the original survival mods are the ones who worked on frostfall because otherwise it means that Bethesda is as smarmy as EA and Ubisoft.
    Also, fallout 4 survival mode wasn't as good as fallout nv because its just 'they do more damage now!'

    I'm very very sad about the fact no paid SkyUI was ever allowed by fans. Of course a lot depends on the price itself, but this is the thing, SkyUI having the most unique downloads does not need to be expensive at all. I do not remember any numbers, but when paid mods were first released I made some maths (and you can still find proper numbers under Zaric's first video on the topic) but from what I remember it was somethilg like 0,10$ for SkyUI would bring in more than 1M$ dollars to it's creators (and that's already after subtracting Bethesda's Steams and tax shares). Would it really be any problem for any one from any part of the world to pay 10 cents?

    • @Avrysatos
      @Avrysatos 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That's just it. These don't have to be 8-10 dollars. I think the creation club would be seen as more favorable if things were like $1.

      SkyUI is essentially a patch to fix the sloppy job Bethesda did in porting over Skyrim. Your suggestion seem to be an external team, approved by Bethesda, should make a patch to fix the UI, and I pay them for that, with part of my money going to Bethesda? Am I understanding you correctly?

      @rollinroy1841 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      your comment implies that special edition overwrites SLE. that is not how it works. SSE is considered a different game from SLE. it goes into an entirely different folder from olde skyrim. sadly, ya missed out.
      oh, unless you're talking about one of those "free for ____ days" deals on steam. then, i misunderstood.
      as far as compatibility goes, you are correct. even with the recent release of skse for SSE, it'll be a while before most mods are ready. i will wait -- drooling over myself -- for skse64 & its mods to be stable. oh, what a day. that should be a holiday. with sweet rolls and...and...yeah. __stops self from rambling__

    • @darken2417
      @darken2417 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +RollinRoy
      Yes I was talking about the "free for____ days".
      The decision seems to be a rather tough one as to which to get. On the one hand the time for upgrading to SSE has ended. But on the other hand just getting the original(SLE) would give access to all mods except for new ones and being forced to remain at 32bit vs 64bit which I assume is extremely significant but I wouldn't know. The problem is exacerbated when one takes into account the mods that will likely never be updated to fit with SSE. But then I've read a conflicting report that not many mods are made incompatible by the SSE.
      Am I correct in saying that you think one should just get SSE instead of the original?

    I couldn't agree with you more on the point that companies aren't your friends. I have no idea why people think that a big name, for profit company miles upon miles away gives a rat's ass about your feelings. They aren't here to wipe away your tears and bring joy, they are here to make money off a media that has grown unbelievably lucrative over time. There are good companies that make quality products and try as best they can to provide for their fans while trying to maintain a profit, and bad ones that nickle and dime their customers every chance they get. We are still CUSTOMERS to both of them regardless. Wish people would understand that.

    You talking about consoles made me remember that i had some people ask "Why do you buy a PC it's so expensive compared to consoles". Everytime people ask that i have to remind them how overpriced consoles are (at least in my region) and how terrible the monetization is for console games (for the consumers). You talking about the people who spend hundreds of bucks on FIFA remind me why i'm a PC user and probably always will be, because i have a choice on this platform, whether legally or illegally to bypass these shady practices.

    This seems like the way of any business that starts by catering to the fans because they are fans. There is the beginning which is great but some what lacking polish. Then they gain money and resources to create something amazing. A golden period if you will. A moment when fans and devs/producers/creators enjoy something truly amazing. Then the big money rolls in. Share holders, 3rd parties, etc. Then we're left reminiscing about having the good fortune to have been there when... a time before the inevitable entropy sat in.

    I will argue that not all companies just see us as dollar signs. I think your not far off in claiming the gamer publishers (whose sole purpose is to maximize profit) aren't our friends, but I think that there are plenty of game development studios that still operate with the players/fans best interests in mind. For example take 343 Industries (the company responsible for Halo 4 & 5). The Halo community was furious about the bad story and unfamiliar artstyle that Halo 5 had, but in the aftermath of game bashing by fans, they pretty much came out and fully admitted that they messed up. Not just in a damage control PR message, but also in person conversations with community members. They fully acknowledged they upset their fans, and instead just hand-waving the criticisms and catering only to the cod style of fans that didn't care about all that stuff, they listened actively worked to right there wrongs their next game (Halo Wars 2). That game (at least in the artstyle and story department) was basically an apology letter to fans for their previous mistake. Beyond that the company frequently has community spot lights for fan projects and even fan mods for other games. Yes they put micro-transactions in both Halo 5 and Halo Wars 2, and no I can't defend that. Maybe it was Microsoft Studio's (their publisher) idea, but even if it wasn't there's too much evidence to the contrary to claim the company cares only about making a profit. 343i and many other studios like i (CD Project Red for instance)t care about pleasing fans, making good games AND making money as a byproduct of that.

    I'm not surprised by any of this. Bethesda game studios. Amazing company. Amazing work being done there. Bethesda softworks on the other hand. Just look at the fact that they released an expansion for a full game, that was double the price of the game's original cost. Now I realize that was the expansion plus other perks, but it's still a huge slap in the face to gamers everywhere. They are the definition of corporate greed. And if they somehow don't find a way to ruin the elder scrolls and fallout series with absurd microtransactions and expansions I'll be amazed. At the end of the day, they know people will continue to buy it. Which is part of the problem. I don't think boycotting will work, not even saying to try it. I'm simply stating that part of the problem is the fact that people are still going to pay for this stuff, regardless of how much of a rip off it really is, therefore they will continue to exploit and take advantage of that. It honestly just makes me really sad.

    "Resources" is a better term. We, or more accurately our money, is a resource for them to mine. When it appears they have exhausted one vein, they dig deeper. No amount of resources are enough. When the mining gets tough, they adapt using new mining technology such as microtransactions, loot crates, paid early access, season pass/Legendary Edition, Bethesda Bucks, paid mods and other.

      The problem is that the decision is not in the hands of developers. Executives, and through them, investors, decide the business model. And investors prefer a steady trickle of profit over a return filled with peaks and valleys.

    • @ryanjones_rheios
      @ryanjones_rheios 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its also "safer" form their perspective because it tends to be a bit more difficult to steal a service entirely. Its sometimes possible to share but its harder to out and out pirate. Thankfully there will always be indie developers/new companies who are looking to garner success by standing out as "different" from the triple-A companies. They tend to have lower graphics, which thankfully I don't care about - FNV still looks fine to me weirdly enough - but can do more interesting/edgy/creative things.
      Granted they're just companies too, trying to make money by manipulation of a sort (they may actually agree with the spirit at the start but they need to eat and will likely play it up until successful enough to slide into the same business practices they started off disliking. A "we all become our parents" thing. I tend to trust Obsidian and like its former/active devs, for example, but I expect it might even happen to them too in the coming years if they see increasing success.)

    One of the underlying reasons for these changes in business practice has to do with digital delivery. How games are developed and purchased and supported has changed. There are still gamers clinging to the old high street retail model and physical ownership of a box and a disc; but most of us have moved on and are adapting to the digital age.
    There will be a lot of disruption and controversy as corporations and customers adapt to the digital retail environment and systems. Mistakes will be made and corporations and customers will struggle to find equitable solutions. It will take time. The responsibility of customers is to let corporations know how they feel about their products and business practices - reviewing bombing for example, both negative and positive, if necessary.

    It sucks. I was so excited when the creation club was brought on , I have a ps4 , so finally being able to use mods was a dream come true. But the mods are cheap knockoffs of the free versions , except you have to pay for them. Now I bought a couple armor sets to add something new to my game , because Skyrim is so old , itself refreshing to have something new , but their prices are ridiculous. Pure greed to it's core , it makes me want to build my own computer rig. But I love console gaming , I've been playing playstation since I was 7 , I'm turning 26 , that's a hard tie for me to break. I feel if there is significant price drops then creation club would be a cool thing. If they have a modder steal an idea for creation club, give the credit from the original then. But having them take down mods is bullshit , Bethesda is like the empire in skyrim , a former shadow of itself. I understand original creator's getting pissed about shit , but don't let the corporate greed kill your creativity. People will always lean towards a better version of something , especially if they have to pay for it. If the community just stands together , Bethesda will bend. I mean monolith took out the microtransactions from shadow of war , probably because they sucked out every penny they were able to get , but eventually they listened to the community. Hopefully Bethesda's dark hearts will turn to the light again one day. They aren't the best anymore , and every game made recently is a perfect example of that. Maybe one day we will see a Bethesda without Todd Howard and his lies and black magic. I loved this one comment I saw that said Todd Howard is the perfect example for why you should level your speech craft hahaha. Fucking Todd Howard.......

    Damn...as one with a past in sales i can definitely recognize another one when i see it...
    that sort of "respect" for the crudely and "earnings" based mentality, while at the same time condemning it; looking at ANYTHING a company does only as an act to masquerade what they really meant to obtain.
    ...it's obvious that Zaric had a past in sales.
    One example i always do to people that claim that "this-that company cares" is this:
    you know whenever you hear a company donating to charity? It is awesome that they did it, and you probably should commend them for it; but that is not WHY they were doing that. They were probably doing it mostly if not only for the good publicity it would create for them, for obtaining contacts in the future or, to simply put it, to get something back.
    Bethesda is not your friend..other people rarely are completely honest 'till the end, why should companies be?

    I think a game crash is on the horizon, and part of me is looking foreward to it. Games are constantly being sold with half the content cut out for full price. I'm not necicerally that old. I'm 22, but I played Diablo2 way back, I played Age Of Empires, I remember how post release content used to be handled. It was huge. Expansion packs as we called them, were massive and *expanded* the game, adding characters, bosses, gear, and maps. DLC nowadays is generally garbage. Witcher did a DLC right, I wont suc them off too much but I cant think of any really great DLC in this past year. If anyone can correct me with an example or a "blood and wine" sized DLC in this past year please do.

  • @deeliriyum

    The most sinister thing about CC is, now that it's set up and existing, it will eventually kill off free mods. It will cause the "brain drain" so the best and highest quality mods will be only available there and we will be left only with work of less capable and less talented people. Bethesda will be satisfied if this little project of theirs brings 0 money but does not cause financial loss at first. Earned money will be reinvested into funding more and more modders until the free modding scene is desolate place and all we are left with are paid mods. Then they will start raking in some phat cash.
    Yes, it's a slow and very gradual process but like torturer's poison it will eventually work it's way to the heart. Corporations are in it for a long haul and won't mind waiting till free mods fade out of collective memory.

  • @ChizuruMinamoto
    @ChizuruMinamoto 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I personnaly have a rather positive outlook on the whole paid mods thing, and think the real issue is only the fact that Bethesda Softworks is charging way too much money for their "modsdlcsthingies". I don't think it makes the game better or worse, because so far, it is perfectly optional to buy their stuff, at least for PC. If I want a survival mod, I can also look on the internet, since so far Bethesda doesn't seem to mind "competition" as long as said competition doesn't get paid for it. I wouldn't condemn Bethesda for trying to do their cashgrab either (Its the job of any company to make money afterall, so its only logic they'd try eventually), or mod authors who made mods for Bethesda, in fact I am okay with the quality of the mods on the Creation Club. But they are charged way too high for the content they offer ($1 for a pipboy skin for exemple, is NOT a good deal, if they made it a pack of skins for the pipboy for $1, it would only be fair then depending on the number of skins + additional quality of said skins; I probably wouldn't buy it because I don't care about skins in general, but it would at least seem fair).
    In short, I would, in all honesty, gladly throw some of my money at Bethesda from time to time, if they weren't being cheapskate and charging horrendous prices for what they offer (I'll probably get shot for saying that...). So maybe I'll buy one of their mod if they really make something I want to get on the creation club, but I'll probably just steer clear of it as long as its wallet threatening.
    But if it evolves later in something horrible that plagues the existence of any game published under Bethesda Softworks and remove the fun out of them, then I will change my opinion about it for the worse, and I sure hope that it would change for the better, but well, corporate bullshit and all, probably wont happen, at best it will probably remain where it is right now, unless the three ghosts of christmas come visit Bethesda and they suddenly get a conscience, but they'd probably try to buy one.
