San Remo has a growing expat community, which helps in acclimating to a new culture and new language. You can stay connected through the expats living there as your Italian develops overtime. Good luck!

what about Sanremo as a place to live for a family? Can we count on high level of education for kids? Are there good quality public schools?

Sanremo is great for living with a family, but school choice is always very individual. You may find that the local schools are right for you. I would come and assess their level on site. There are good international schools in Monaco, Genoa, Como, Milan as well.
