  • Sorry it’s been so long, so many things to do, so many classes a week mean I rarely have time to shoot the video.
    Anyway, gripping the sword, the non pedantic guide, I hope this helps.

    Hi Dave, if I understand correctly, a very similar grip to that of the later Italian dueling sword, If I understood correctly.

      @@carloparisi9945 I will research that before answering if that’s ok? Could you give me the resources to check and I’ll get back to you.:)

    I thought that for Thibault grip you do everything you said, but rest the thumb on the inside quillon. I've been calling what you have shown as pinched grip (cuz you pinch the blade). Are the two that I'm mentioning variations in Thibault rapier, so it's all good, or am I a bit confused (with smallsword for example, where you pinch the quillon block)?

    Is this academy is focusing to improve the student’s skills or just to teach them stuff and just get paid?
    The first one deserves to get paid for but there’s schools or places that just teach and get paid careless if the students actually learned something

    The thing about Thibault that confuses me the most is that even though you hold the sword in a right angle, the Thibault's rapier is swept hilt with really large gaps. Wouldn't it make the hand vulnerable to stabs? Other Destreza styles prefer closed hilts, why doesn't Thibault?

    • @LondonLongsword
      @LondonLongsword  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Ian-ib4uf it’s mostly about making contact with the sword and, very importantly being careful of measure.

    I feel a bit out of my depth, but if I do get my hands on a rapier again, I'll experiment with the horizontal and vertical grips as well as the gripping style you described.

    Any suggestions if our two-port rapier has a longer handle and the pommel doesn't sit at the wrist? (Eg older Regenyei version before custom hilt length was an option)?

    Hey, Dave! Excellent video as usual. Just curious if there's any way to obtain the shirt you're wearing? (Not the specific one, but that design lol). I know there's a London Longsword Academy Redbubble page, and I like the designs there, but I vastly prefer the simple elegance of the pig skull and swords on black with no text. I've seen you and a number of (I presume) your students in this version, but I can't seem to find it available anywhere on the internet. I'd buy one immediately if they're for sale somewhere. Cheers, mate!

    Thanks for the info, makes all perfect sense to me. Just one thing made me smile, due to other things I have watched before, one of the recommended videos to view next on the right is actually "Obi-Wan Kenobi vs Darth Vader Full Fight Scene". Will take a good look at their grips!

      @@LondonLongsword It was just a video idea, think you’ve done a video with a longsword but not with a rapier.
      I know they will (kind of) be the same cuts but what would be the difference with a rapier.
      Like I myself have done Fendentes and high Tondos (some more successfully than others) but have never seen the need/opportunity for a Montante.
