    One of the best songs from Lemmings! I always considered the Sega Genesis port to have the most well-arranged music of all the Lemmings ports. Whoever did the arrangement on that version really nailed it.

    Lemmings! YES! I loved this tune and game - spent many an hour ripping my (then young) hair out trying to rescue those little buggers. Brings back memories! thumbs up :)

      dash8brj I have the game myself since 1992 when my dad built a 286 back then with a Sound Blaster 1.0 installed and it came with some games, like Lemmings for DOS. The diskette still works and I use the joystick to use the commands for the Lemmings.

    I definitely hear a large portion of the Pachelbel's chord progression. It's not exact, but I can see where they found the comparison.

    Top work! This video reminded me that I have (or had) all of the Lemmings music as .mod files on some old Amiga floppies. The mods were actually taken from the Acorn Archimedes version of the game; not as good as the Amiga version but much much easier to rip. After some rummaging around in my dad's attic I found a few of the disks and took them home. Checked them for mould and they seemed ok. I got myself a "SuperCard Pro" to copy the disks to my PC but during reading various mechanical failures occurred, resulting in most of the magnetic material being scraped off the plastic disc.

    The AMIGA one of the track was so much better but for a keyboard version I guess it was a good idea to base it off of of the MS-DOS one as that was the closest to a Yamaha chip because it was one I guess baseing it off of the Megadrive one would have worked too.

    • @607

    Excellent stuff! It is the ground bass from Pachelbel's Canon, just with the actual canon parts replaced by something else, so that makes it... not sure what, but calling it Pachelbel's Canon really doesn't seem right!

  • @wmperry2790
    @wmperry2790 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    ...Let's Go! Lemmings music was actually good, you didn't even need to turn it off to make the game bearable. Just last week i heard the strange science item that there's a type of ant that explodes itself as a tactic and they mentioned the game Lemmings in reference. Maybe Bombardier Ants is the name?

    0:44 Actually, the DOS version doesn't give it names. Its "official" name, at least in the Windows and SNES versions, is just "Lemming 1".
    1:44 The more he goes on, the more it sounds like the Amiga version.

    Okay I found out why it's called Pachelbel's Canon. Apparently it's just a name that was given to it by some sites, but isn't actually its official name. In the files of the DOS version, it's just called lemmings1.mid.

    Hi Mr. 8 bit. Are you going to putting the sheet music on your website? Also didnt they create a C64 keyboard that overlayed the C64? Yse that for a video!

    • @8BitKeys
      @8BitKeys  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Jack Johnson - Actually, I'm no good with sheet music (either making it or reading it) Plus I don't actually have a website setup. But one of the things I strive for in my videos is clear presentation so the viewer can see exactly what keys I'm pressing on all of the different parts of the song. So hopefully anyone who wants to learn the song can do so just by watching the video.
      And Yes, there was a keyboard that overlayed on the C64. A friend of mine used to have one of those back in the day. I do not currently have one, though.

    Maybe it differs from version to version, but i think the Pchelbel's Canon song in Lemmings has the correct chord progression, only transposed to C. Could be wrong though...also 7 years late to the party 😅

      One more thing, I think you are a guy from another time on computers, but many of us also love midi sounds of pc's from the 90's, most of them from soundblaster cards with OPL3 chip, it would be awesome if you could help us to find the best way to achive that kind of sound, so we could compose actual songs, just like the other video about best equipment for DOS games. What I see for todays computers is soundfonts that sound nothing like the real thing. Thanks man, you do a great work here.

  • @tdark987
    @tdark987 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I suspect they called it "Pachelbel's Canon" because it uses the same (or a slight variation of the same) chord progression, and all the rest of the song is basically an improvisation over that basic chord progression.
    I can kind of understand why you missed it; the chords from Pachelbel's Canon have become so commonplace nowadays that they don't really stand out as being from that piece anymore, especially if you listen to a lot of music.
    All the same, the name is still lazy (and possibly misleading). If every song that used this chord sequence called itself "Pachelbel's Canon", there'd be literally hundreds of songs with that same title.

      8-Bit Keys That's cool. I also thought more that direction. "Vintage" is a very strechable term though.
      For example: When looking up the MC-909 on Ebay for example (especailly on the German marketplace) it is often described as "vintage" or "retro". WTF! Some of these devices are not even ten years old!! I'm so frustrated about this.
      Anyway, I would really appriciate something along those lines.
