When I first buy new equipment after getting back into fishing....trout fishing. Mountain trout fishing. I bought a few Ugly Stik Pro Lites from Walmart for about $20 each . They're awesome. Nothing wrong with Kastking anything. Everything almost is made in China. I have some reels. One ultralight rod that is top notch. Not as light as my Finwick Eagle , but as good build ....maybe quite a bit better.
Been using ugly stiks for years after hearing about them from Capt. Eddie Smith , a fireman friend, but after watching your reviews, I have bought about 6 or 7 more. Hope you get some kind of reward from them. You guys sell a lot of them! Enjoy your videos.

I agree my favorite rod is a 8”6 ugly lite spinning med heavy I got it paired with a diawa bg 4000 I fricken love it we need to all call Shakespeare and demand the lite come back

I have 2 GX2's, original ugly stiks, the lites, and the lite pros. Honesty i love all of them, especially the GX2 I've caught big flatheads on them and they stood the test. I don't fish with any other rods.

Just got my self UglyStik Lite BC1156-1M Medium 5'6" Casting, with pistol grip. Very nice action and casting just about anything.
Never got the chance to try the Lite ugly stiks , they came and gone before I even new..lol. But I am using the one's that have replaced the Lite ugly stiks which is the new Elite ugly stiks , basically added 33% more graphite and have the usual cork handle and have the almighty 1 piece stainless steel guides , just a fantastic rod. I did have the GX2 but found that the Elites had a better feel and I like the cork handles over foam plus the gx2 felt on the heavier side so I settled with the Elites , haven't looked back since then, but will look ahead it seems ugly stik comes out with a new rod every year or two. Not sure what else they can do to them without sacrificing the durability of them as they are known for.
I have the the lite pro. 7 ft medium. My favorite River Smallie rod. Great review

I run a Shimano Sienna 500fd on a 5'0" Ugly Stik Lite Pro for crappie on East TX lakes and ponds. I cant imagine a rig could be much better for crappie.
Another guide gave me a barrel full of his old used up rods and in that barrel I found one 6 ft 6 inch , ugly stick lite in med heavy with cork handles and to this day I have only found one more like it to buy , and it is my favorite rod of all times ,,wish I knew where to buy more like it.

I don't hate the gx2. It's just not a do everything rod. I mainly use top water lures on it. It's got good back bone for sticking bass with a frog. I've also got a ultra light lite rod that's so noodle like a blue gill will double it over. I lost a lot of trout on that lil whip, but it's a blast.
I'M NOT A FAN! They really should ask people like me about a new rod before going full-bore with marketing it. I would have told them to go back and re-do the GX2's, that I have held in my hands. I'm a major user, you'd think they ask and recruit my opinions.
I have a 5'9" lite pro, medium light action. It was given to me, I use it for bass, pike, bowfin, perch and whatever else. I don't think it has metal insert guides though, the one in the tip broke and fell out.
Just got the uglystik lite pro for 15 dollars at walmart with a decent reel. I knew they were good brand but this pole is awesome so far. Wish I could have caught something with it by now.
they are not the same...everyone keeps saying that. the casting intercoastal and THE OLD ''Lite'', not lite pro, they are really freshwater rods.

I picked an ugly stik lite pro 6'6 medium heavy triple built blank, it looks different in that it does not have a black butt cap but it looks to be cork butt.
everyone thinks I'm talking the PRO, but it's not a HD saltwater type. Tired about hearing about them really. Its NOT what i'm talking about. Doesn't matter the rods featured here just were discontiuned, and a dumbed down version was at WallyWorld called the Intercoastal, now it was discontinued for some CRAP that looks like and feels like a bass rod! UGLY STIK DOESN'T CARE ABOUT YOU OR ME, JUST MAKING $$, AND CHEAPENING THINGS.
so today I bought a original classic 6'6" ugly stik lite casting rod...I consider myself fortunate to be able to buy one...no longer made..sold out on ugly stik website.
THE REASON IS THEY WERE NOT AS POPULAR, BEING SO SHORT. 7 FOOTERS ARE THE NORM.

The ugly stick Dock runner looks like that🧐 the ugly elete. Is not the GX2 rod got 4 of them and the ice fishing rod also. They need the carbon fiber ice fishing rods. I want one of these next in medium light power rod.
I have an ugly stik lite 7’ casting and a 6’ gx2 spinning and I love the gx2 because it is so sensitive and practically indestructible
I tried a gx2 casting rod but it was so heavy compared to other brands of rods so when I saw cork handle ugly stiks like the lite and elite I had to get one and the lite was $20 cheaper and I couldn’t be more happy
They're forcing those terrible GX2's down everyones throat, being in all the stores.
those GX2's won't ever adorn my tackle room.
Capt Daves Sportfishing Charters they might be trash compared to other ugly stiks but compared to other brands of rods they are way more durable and sensitive, for example I’ve seen them ran over by pickups and slammed in tailgates and all u have to do is bend the eyes back straight

my favorite rods were my ugly stick customs 7.0 medium heavy action but they were stolen. Now I'm trying out what I call my Wal-Mart special the GX2 6.6 heavy action with a Zebco 888 and 80 lb spider wire low-vis line and it works great for catfish over 30 lbs. I know it's not conventional but it reminds me of the old combos my dad. overall the GX2 (bigboy) is a pretty good rod. please comment is anyone has tried this combo or wants to. i have $94.00 in it with the braid.
I have the ugly stik intercostal rod 6.6 but the inserts are stainless steel inserts. They are just coated with something. I found that out because I was cleaning my rod from the salt water and the coating was coming off and there it was the stainless steel insert.

+Capt Daves Sportfishing Charters I guess I got a gem but this was in 2015 in the summer time. The reason I got the rod was because I like cork handles. Secondly my other rod which was a combo for the penn fierce 6000 and one of the eyes got busted. So I got the ugly stik intercostal. I loved the rod. The thing is my reel was too big. So later in I got a smaller reel. The penn fierce 4000. Now it works great. I do plan on getting more of those rods. I just need to look for the good one. Because my birth day comes up tomorrow. So I am looking for another rod I can use for speckled trout,red fish,flounder, and maybe Black Sea bass if I can find them. You may ask what I will do with the other one. Now that is gonna be the sheepshead set up. What size hook do you use for sheepshead?

Hey Captain Daves! First of all, thanks for your practical advise and tips on inshore fishing, your a Godsend! I'd like to know if you have tried the Ugly Stik E lite rods, and if you have used them what are your personal thoughts? My sons, daughter and I love to fish and find it a great way to bond. I have to keep cost to a minimum because gearing up five people to go fishing hits the wallet rather hard. So I want to say thank you for showing your viewers that you don't have to break the bank to have a great time. Thanks, God bless & tight lines!
+Keith Parr NO, the "Elite" series I have held at a tackle shop thats it. But as I said to another guy, it's probably just the GX2 blank and I very much dislike the GX2's.......and the why is way longer than I can write in this comment section.
GO to wally'sworld.com and order up some intracoastal rods, cheaper and perfect for "most" inshore fishing........BUT I have no clue where you are. So that doesn't mean much.
+Capt Daves Sportfishing Charters Thanks for your answer. My family and I fish the Galveston & Matagorda bay systems here on the Texas coast. Specks, Reds & Flounder are our target species. But at this time of year it's mostly Pompano & whiting, with the occasional big trout in the surf on a catch 2000 with circle hooks replacing the trebles. Thanks again! BTW we use an older Shimano curado bantum. Any thoughts on those? We used your tip of backing out the screws and greasing them. It's helped! Much appreciated!

The medium action casting or spinner is lite but handled a 26 pound red in screaming tide on my latest video, I always back up everything with video PROOF!!

I gave up on shimano and diawa they disappointed me at one time in the 1970's I was a diawa person I've used them all and I mean all I own a ugly stick pro lite and I have no problem with the rod I refuse to use junk reels on my rods I'm picky about my reels I want high performance high bearing count great gearing at an affordable price and I get that from kast king the 4 strand is good the 9 strand diamond pattern is fantastic 24.95 on Amazon

well.... except for my long buggywhip crappie rods the rest are are Ugly Stiks of some sort.. most are 7 ft lites methinks. Not sure what guides are on em but will take a look tomorrow. Only issue I have is the sun gets to the epoxy and the surfaces start peeling pretty quick, but it does not seem to effect how tuff they remain. I fish hard and the rods see a lot of use/abuse and honestly I have never broken one... not even a guide. Thanks for the vid!!
Hmmm, mine sit in the florida sun for hours and hours day after day and never ever have I had the epoxy peel on any Ugly Stik. I finally put a top on my boat(s) after 18 years, last July.
Indeed? I wonder then if its from stress from fishing then. Routinely catch 5-15 lb stripers on these rods. Most of the peeling seems to take place in the lower 2 ft thicker section. Surely your rods see more use than mine.... leaves me scratching my head a bit. Still.... I have loved these rods for probably over 20 years
cleaning agents? Freshwater only hits mine after each trip and air dried. You could get GX2's with NO finish, I think....hahahahaha
Nah..they get cleaned when I fish in the rain. Just looked at what I have....its the original ugly stiks.. same design from mid 70s. Could be my rods are older than I realized or they used a dif coating on older mods. STILL... never an issue with these rods.....like the name says...spose to be ugly, fish don't care if it shines or not hah

I have the used to be version aka the lite it’s about 10-15 yrs old, it was a barn find for me new in the plastic 2 yrs ago much nicer than the current Walmart version it’s become my favorite rod. The gx2 is crazy overrated the elite is a good rod but the grip/reel seat sucks! Starting to lose faith in Shakespeare. Glad I found this video though👍
lost faith a long time ago when they cut costs, and kill perfectly good saltwater rods, and turn them into bass fishing junk.

I have a 6' Shimano Sojourn with and Shimano Slade 2500fb (a predecessor to the Sedona i believe) and an original 6'6 Ugly Stik baitcaster with a Shimano Citica. The Sedona and ugly stick elite would be a nice combo. Shakespeare rods and a Shimano reels, best of both worlds ☺

I picked up a 8.5 heavy action lite, about 10 years. Still have it, still love it. Thinking about pairing it with a, pen spinfisher vi 6500lc.

have no knowledge of it, never used one. I don't do spinning tackle. Every rod can be used on a boat. I'm sure it's like this rod. A light rod, light action, for casting lighter weights.
the ugly stik "lite" series are a all graphite rod.ultra sensitive but still extremely flexible!!.. now the new Gx2 and Elite series rods are composite rods or mixes of graphite and fiber glass rods..less sensitive but stronger!.. believe me there garbage! had one of both new series rods and got rid of them in the same week ..I love this video because your right..I went back to the old " lite" rods..best ever...ultra sensitive and durable!!! I have a 6'6" ultra light a 5"6' light also a 7'0" medium action rod all in the no longer " Lite" series rods..best bang for your buck, rest of your life rod!!!

Well my gx2 just landed a 47in red yesterday out of the inlet. So I have no complaints
I just picked up a ugly stik lite pro spinning medium heavy rod 6' 8-17lb line rating and matched with a penn pursuit II with 10lb hybrid mono flor line and LOVE IT. What's your input? And also will add I'm in FL now and will be using this combo 98% in saltwater fishing and will be using the reel and line for Freshwater when it's brought to NY with me to use for salt and freshwater due to its build and quality and wish I could with rod but is a 1pc but that's fine.

i'm fond of the new Ugly Tuff guides, but for ease of purchase ya can't beat that intracoastal at wallys world, if they have any.
Correction my friend, you are wrong there is no lite rods, they have the (LITE PRO) & the (Elite)ELITE. It looks like lite but it has a giant upper case E with lite in front of it resulting in (E LITE)

Love your vids. I'm looking for a 2-piece rod to match with a Penn Clash 3000. I fish NC inshore creeks and ICW and do some dock/pier fishing as well. primarily targeting trout, flounder, sheep etc. Do you think this or the bigwater 7' med would be a good choice for me?

+Dilly Vue Not familiar with the rocket rod, but I use my ugly stick lites to catch 30-50lb red drum quite regularly. Never had a rod failure that was not human error.

Hey Capt. How do you feel about the new bigwater series from ugly stik? I really like the rod feel but didn't match up too well with my daiwa bg 4000. It's so hard to pair that reel!!! Any suggestions?
The lighter versions are same as my favorite, The white Catfish rods only a different color. I don't play "spinner" reels, so I know zero about spinner rods. Didlike the HUGE so-called offshore guides on the heavy versions. A complete over-do. They don't need those giant guides....."talking only baitcasting/conventional reel rods.

Hello sir I just have 2 questions 1- can you please do a video on ugly stik lite pro camo fro Walmart I just bought one for ah roughly $50 (cons &pros) ....and question 2- how and what will u use for rigging up that type of rod i really do hope I got my $$$ worth ....oh yeah by the way only thing I've heard about the kind I just bought is a reel upgrade ....any reason why??? Yep, too many. Thats why they still had the 6'6" rods.....commonly shorter people like short rods, and the reverse also. I don't want 6'6" rods. It doesn't matter if it works for you.
I've outfished so many people with my ugly stiks and they have expensive rods compared to my ugly stiks 🙂
I used to be a G.Loomis pro staff guide, and my customers broke one monthly. MSRP - RETAIL they were $200 each!

HMMM... Spinners don't have the trigger is the only one I know of that may not have a trigger. (Hence: Trigger casting model)
Hate metal inserts. They are a way that the companies try and copy titatium etc. Guides for cheap costs. Built crappily with crappy metals that will cause you to have knots reeling in braid or mono uder 20 lb. The intracoastal rods are the best because they have the fuji (graphite ) reel seat while the lite ones have an off brand ugly stik on made of fake graphite. Crack super easily. Intracoastals are better than the lite rods. BUT NOW THEY MAKE A NEW LITE ROD and sell it in walmarts called the "lite pro" which is a mix of both and has better guides and reel seats, along with nicer designed cork
NOT in my business. I LUV the new Ugly Tuff Guides. This video is OLD. Don't even have any of these rods any more. I'm all Striper and Catfish rods and Tiger Jigging, now. (Tiger jigging with the ole Fugi reel seat and guides)

+Thomas Sweeney GREAT QUESTION! Terrible reel seat trigger that's uncomfortable, and on many models, DEAD SPOTS in the bend of the rod. Cheapy rod finish.....no overcoat, no protection with that crappy matt black finish. But the dead spots in my ole favorite actions are the finale. NO REASON ever to get rid of the ole classic Ugly Stiks....just change the guides, not the rods.

I bet it can handle a 40 pound Redfish no problem. The deal is very good saltwater fisherman can do amazing things that most bass fisherman never do and think can't be done. ESSENTIALLY, these (just the Intracoastal version, less the good guides) already caught a 26 pound Redfish on a float from under a dock, in a raging current, same with a 7'6" Striper rod. Also a 26 pound Redfish in a ripping current and 30' deep. Or a 26# redish on a lure on a striper med. lite rod 7'

I'm not.....I just get inundated with catfish questions in which I have never ever fished, when the words Ugly Stik are used. I have many Ugly Stik video's, ""Other fisherman use them too!" But they don't realize that.

i have a 7 6 and it makes a cracking noise when i bend it is that normal.
is it kinda new? It's the epoxy around the guides creekin'...should be okay. I've had a few that do it, and as they got heavy use it went away.

uncomfortable trigger on grip/reel seat......unconventionally NOT a ugly stik, many actions with ''dead spots'' in the rod curve. I could see it right in the ad photos, at the very beginning. the blank feels thin and cheap. they dont know what side their bread is buttered on, for sure. If i was a executive there i'd get rid of it and bury the remains!

My local Walmart has Ugly Stik Lite Pro's but they're blue and gold. I just bought one of the older Lites off of eBay. It's 7' medium heavy casting.
walmart ''used'' to have intracoastals. same as the old Lites, with predecessors of the 'ugly tough', guides. the lite pros are cheapy freshwater types.
Capt Dave's Sport Fishing I just bought one of the lite pro’s after I posted 3 weeks ago and I like it. It’s similar to my lite. Im just using it for channel cats with a Ambassadeur 5500c3.In fact it “looks” almost identical to the Intracoastal in this video.
