  • As Nampa continues to grow, so does the demand on its first responders, particularly in addressing mental health concerns. Since 2018, the Nampa Police Department has observed a notable rise in calls related to mental health issues, prompting the department to take proactive measures.
Deputy Chief Curt Shankel said the department is hoping to address this problem by hiring a mental health coordinator.
"This position - the mental health coordinator - it's not new as far as law enforcement around the nation or even local, but it is something that's new for Nampa Police," Shankel said.
