A small compass, got that right. Saved me painful days of hiking , also lost my compass a few times. You never know how important they are untill you need it, rare but a life saver
Merry Christmas from the Deep South where most winters folks can only dream of a White Christmas! This is the first time that I have seen your channel, and I was very impressed with the clarity of your presentation! God blessed you with an excellent speaking voice. I plan to watch more of your videos & will seriously consider becoming possibly yopur oldest subscriber at age 83. Thanks for an enjoyable video & may GOd bless you & yours!
Out in the woods, I run a neck knife setup with a Becker Necker, ferro rod, ceramic sharpening rod, Maglite Solitare and multiple ranger bands holding them on. My compass and lighter are in my pockets. Your setup looks great though. I may have to give it a try.
The only thing I would add to that neck lanyard is a heavy duty down filled winter sleeping bag, a plastic tarp, some more bank line and a quart of water. Ha ha ha! :-) Seriously though, Excellent video! Thanks.
lol awesome I was also thinking of adding a winner-well camp stove to my lanyard lol I would just have to find a way to carry firewood around my neck too
I worked in propane many years and know a little about flammable gases . Those lighters hold butane . Below freezing butane gas will become a liquid and not light because it is no longer in a gaseous state . You are correct in keeping the lighter close to your body . The warmth will keep your lighter working . A cold lighter left in a glove compartment of a vehicle will not work until it's warm . I prefer a zippo lighter . No temperature concerns . The neck is still a good place to carry . The problem with zippo lighters is that the fuel everaporates out of the lighter . So , fill the lighter before you leave . It seems to last more than a week . 👍
Great little video! Below zero here in Central NY past couple mornings, but it'll be 60° tomorrow! I don't envy you up there (why I moved back down to the "tropics")! You just do your own thing in your own time. Thanks again.
@@jo-qf3rv Don't tell too many people how beautiful this place is, we don't want too many Democrats moving here trying to escape their own crazy policies!!! LOL

I have a similar lanyard made for traveling in the wilderness. Its 8 foot of paracord doubled over with a breakaway clasp and small carabiner. It attaches to a small leather pouch containing 15 feet of #18 bankline, a coldsteel recon micro tanto blade, a whistle, fernel lens, and a mini Bic wrapped in waxed thred and gorilla tape. The entire setup is under a pound, and you don't think about it when you wear it.
👍👍👍 good advice 😊. A Whistle and my Dwelling Entrance Key sit on separate lanyards around my neck. The other, in specific dedicated pockets on my person. Thanks for sharing .. take care ..
I am guessing that you have a pocket knife that in your pocket? Cool little setup. Wearing layers makes it hard to reach stuff in your pocket so wearing it around your neck gives you easier access. Thanks for sharing.
Yes sir, I usually carry a Leatherman and a Mora Bushcraft Black at all times thank you it really is a great little way to keep things secure. Thanks for the comment.
I agree about carrying around the neck. I use a waterproof case. Add an SOL large emergency blanket and a GI bandage to the pockets of your coat. Good Luck, Rick
@@John-kl8mz It really can be a life saver. I used to teach Wilderness Survival Merit Badge and of course I experimented on campouts. I found that the SOL large Emergency Blanket(it used to be called a Heatsheet) was the best for the price. It is bigger(5' x 8'), tougher, and quieter than the mylar blankets. It can be reused. The neck cases that I used were for swimmers and can hold the blanket and basic survival gear. SOL did come out with a poncho version of the Heatsheet. Good Luck, Rick
New sub, I live south of you about 2 hrs, I recently started wearing a neck knife, Oldewolf makes a nice one, and it comes with fire steel and striker.
Just ran across your channel. I live in Florida now but I grew up in the Lake George area on the edge of the Adirondacks. We would always hike and camp in the Adirondacks as a family. I gotta be honest and that although I miss it up there where ai grew up, but glad I’m in Florida for reasons I won’t get into. But I do miss the great times we spent in the mountains and the beauty of the area.
Hope everyone has a safe New Year. It sure is starting off crazy. Hoping things go smoothly for the next 17 days and we get a good grip on the mayhem after that.
Think about having a break-away knot or connector in case the paracord got tangled up with a branch or something else. Don't get strangled by your "neck kit."
Thank you, I usually keep it under my sweater so it does not dangle, however you bring up a good point, will look into getting a breakaway lanyard. Thank you
Isn’t true you that you can’t cut down anything g in the park? Even if it is dead? Or is that only true in certain places? Im visiting my folks and this is what I’m being told. Ps- finally some snow!
Allen Mt. 18 mile hike well over 3,000 ft gain. Hard hike over 8 hrs. Hard area to cover. Have not heard anything he was experienced, which has me concerned.
I don`t want to get into a pickle!I just wanna ride my motorcycle!A happy new year to you.

Very true, I have been lost before. I will be doing some land navigation content soon. Thank you for the comment!!
Stick vertically in the ground at sunrise. Watch where it begins . Probably East.

That’s why I love this channel and the Bushcraft community. I get so many great ideas from you guys you guys are awesome.
Nice setup. I also added a CRKT neck knife

That is smart. Simple idea, but I have never heard or seen anyone recommend keeping them around the neck. Definitely going to make that setup.
For the winter months it works perfect!!!

Thank you yeah that has worked for me many times your body produces quite a bit of heat!!!
Butane is also known as bastard gas 😂
I would add a couple cotton balls coated in Vaseline. Small plastic sealed pouch. Ferro or spark from Bic should be enough to get a fire.

Never! Leave home without the ability to cut and make fire. I try to follow that anywhere I go.

Thank you so much for the support!!! I try to get something up on a Saturday or Sunday, Monday at the latest.
Good info, I'd add a neck knife and whistle; maybe a penlight.
Thank you for the idea!!!!
ALWAYS a small penlight...
I try to keep a few Bic lighters in my garments and pack. Always have a stout folder, flashlight, and a diamond stone.
top tip buddy, another good demo my friend

Merry Christmas man !
Merry Christmas!!! Thank you
Merry Christmas from the finger lakes.
Nice, great spot to live !!!
I would have to add a small flashlight of some sort…..even a button type light. Compass no bueno if too dark to see it.
Add a Mora neck knife or Victorinox and you’re good to go (at a super simple level).
I love my Mora Bushcraft black!!! I will look at the smaller knives as well!!!
Wyoming guy here. Winters can kill you fast if you are not careful.
Hope everyone has a safe New Year. It sure is starting off crazy. Hoping things go smoothly for the next 17 days and we get a good grip on the mayhem after that.
Wishful thinking my friend, “out of the frying pan into the fire “ springs to mind!🇬🇧🇺🇸
A whistle would be great as well, be careful as sweat can corrode ferro rods
I will add one Thanks!!! Will keep an eye on the Ferro rod
Here in Maine we’re hoping for snow, can’t buy an inch.
Good choices

Maybe a coaches whistle too🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
ALL compasses in the Adirondacks point to THE INN at STONEY CREEK!
What is that white stuff? Summer here (January) and temperatures are in the triple digits (for those who don’t use Celsius).
Merry Christmas !!!
I carry a ten millimeter around my neck
What type of saw do u use I am new to this live in albany ny
Bahco Laplander or Silky Gomboy are my two favorite

Might want to add a whistle
Where is you P38 ?
Obviously not an old soldier 😂 Still have mine from Vietnam and my kids have their own as well
Whistle
Of course you have a knife in your pocket along with folded heavy duty aluminum foil
Leathermen and a Mora on the belt👍👍
Why no Leo Dufour Video?
