Wow!!! I just started reading "Your Not Alone Michael. Through A Brothers Eye's". Just not to long finished the chapter behind this record. Jermaine felt hurt that LA Reid and Babyface was suppose to work with him. But ending up doing music with Michael. Jermaine did say in his book. Michael and him did eventually discuss their differences. Like the whole situation was put to rest. Or water under the bridge scenario.
there was a response to this. rumor has it that Michael used his powers in the industry to pull this song off of the radio in 1991. this album took a major hit in exposure and marketing because of Jermaine's diss. sadly, this was Jermaine's last album to date.
I think it’s because jermaine was suppose to work with la reid and babyface and then michael supposedly “stole” them away from him so that they could work with him instead. and it made jermaine upset. but jermaine definitely has a history of jealousy with mj. I think even their sister latoya said so. He once allegedly said that thriller was trash. So yeah this song definitely comes from a place of jealousy. I’m sure he looks back on this with regret, at least I hope he would.
Michael did actually record a response he just never officially released it. It’s a song called “Monkey Business” It’s about Jermaine’s trifling ways. Jermaine was jealous of his brothers Michael and Randy. Jermaine even went so far as to marry his brother Randy Jackson’s girlfriend and even had children with her. (They both ended up sharing the same woman and having children with her 🤦🏿♂)
It was a big thing when this came out. The story is that MJ would sabotage his sibling's music, like Aretha's biopic portrayed how she did her sister Carolyn. Just...heavy. It makes me sad now that MJ is no longer here, and in interviews since his passing, Jermaine has been quick to defend his brother. I hope they reconciled before 2009. P.S.. Jermaine wasn't the only Jackson to throw them lyrical hands. Janet's "You Need Me" aims DIRECTLY at Joe.
J J there’s a lot to reasoning about why Jermaine recorded the song. We’ll never know all the truth. It wasn’t jealousy because Jermaine made his choice as an independent man not to leave Motown. I believe with Michael not communicating with the family as a whole a song like this would force Michael to respond. It really became an unnecessary family mess.

It was also rumoured Janet Jackson's song You is a diss at MJ.

Who knows what the reason was behind it. I just can’t see why he would attack his own brother.
