VFX is a generic name for a lot of things that are made with different techniques achieving the same result. I once was in your place , wanted to learn VFXs for games but didn't even know how to start. If you want to learn VFXs, my recommendation as first and as CORE main step is: Learn about materials and shaders. Materials and shaders are the core of VFXs, more than whole complex particles systems. Getting good at it is like 70% of work done. The remaining 30% are things like particles systems like Niagara, or other techniques such as fluid simulations, geometry cache etc.
Man shit ,i want later on in my game to make a magic system, and this is the kind of stuff i want in it, gonna be difficult to get my hands on this VFX.
