-For all around shooting CCI Mini-Mags are unbeatable. Burns clean, consistent, very few misfires, works great for semi-autos. -Winchester Super-X should be illegal, it’s so bad for the money. -If you shoot a lot of .22 and want to save money on bulk ammo, Federal Value Packs are good. -For shooting groups use what your rifle “likes.”
Haven't bought any Super X lately. It was my first favorite ammo back 40 years ago, but the last I shot was terrible. I stay away from the Red Rattlers!
The best 22 ammo is whatever my kids or grandkids will buy me to replace all that I've bought for them over the last 45yrs 😂. It all does well but now I have trouble remembering which does best in certain tools. Heritage RRs usually don't care but semiautos can be picky. All fun Stay safe & take care. Pray for families in GA. 🙏
Hi Al, I have tried about every 22 ammo I can find. For the money, the one that works in my rifles and pistols ( semis included) is Aguila super extra 40 grain. That's all I use now.
I agree with the 40 Gr CCI Standard, It is the most accurate in my rifle and pistol. Never had an issue with cycling. The mini mag hollow points are great for hunting, but they shoot higher than the standard. Gotta re zero for them.
I’m cheap. 😳 CCI is my “expensive” ammo. 😉 My bulk ammo is either the AutoMatch or the Golden Bullets. I live within city limits, but we keep chickens and rabbits. So, to dispatch rabbits for processing, or to eliminate varmints, I use CCI Quiet-22 out of my lever action Henry.
All my .22 ammo is Federal Punch. I tried most of the available.22's and it works the best in my rifle. Everyone needs to find their own confidence builder...
I agree, my friend. You got to find what works best in your firearm and stick with it. I want to thank you for watching. You take care and have a great day.👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Al, i've tried pretty much all .22 ammo that's available over the years here in the UK and now i've settled on two manufacturers. In my Bergara B14 i use SK, i find it super accurate up to my maximum range that i can target shoot which is 100 yards. In my Tippmann M4 and my Ruger 10/22 (Green mountain fluted barrel in a Boyds Evolution stock) i use CCI Blazer 40grn round nose and i have never had a duff round in either of my semi's. At the moment i'm deliberately not cleaning the Ruger just to see how far it'll go before problems. The round count is up to 1100 and it shows no sign of malfunctioning. All i do between range visits is lightly oil the receiver where the bolt runs on and so far no sign of a FTF or FTE. Famous last words! Anyway, just thought i'd tell you of my findings on this rather interesting subject. ATB.
@@buckshotaaa too good choices. Thanks for the info, my friend. I’ll pass it on. Nothing like experience hands on. That way you’re confident in what you shoot and that makes a lot of difference. In your accuracy of your firearm, and the confidence you have in it. I think you for watching my friend. And again, thanks for taking the time to share your experiences, and some information that might be useful to others and to myself. You take care and have a most wonderful evening👍👍👍👍👍👍.
CCI Mini Mag is great ammo but costs a lot more than Remington Golden Bullets. I have had very good success with the Golden Bullets. They are somewhat dirty though as the gold color tends to get on everything. If I had to choose only one type to use, it would be Golden Bullets.
What a great idea for a show. I think that this information is very valuable to all of your listeners. I have always liked CCI mini mags, it will be cool if others share their thoughts. Thanks Al.
It’s hard to beat CCI ammunition. That’s for sure. And you’re right you can get some pretty good deals on the norma ammunition now. It’s really come down in price over the last year or so. I want to thank you for watching. You take care and have a wonderful day.👍👍👍👍👍
In the last couple years I have had trouble with Federal and Browning bulk. Ftf and even a squib. Aguila has been very consistent and cheap. CCI always good, but a bit pricier.
The best ammo is always the most accurate ammo. See what's most accurate in your own guns, then decide. If the terminal effects are more important to you, then good luck. Nothing is gained when the bullets don't go where you need them to be. I use 1 MOA as a benchmark for sporting rifles. That's 1" groups @ 100 yards for those who don't what MOA is.
I'm glad you're taking about 22lr. over a year and ahalf ago i bought a kel-tec p17 in 22lr. so i started a reliability test and completed last week.over that time i shot 605 rounds of Remington in bucket, Winchester, cci, federal, agulia. during breaking in i had 7 rounds of federal auto match that fired but didn't push bolt back far enough to pickup new round . the agulia was the nastest ,smokest ammo i ever shot. it smoked so bad i had to wait between shots to see the target. i shot 250 of agulia. so 598rounds mixed brands worked flawlessly and accurately. 3 magazines with it worked flawlessly. good trigger. this one is a keeper. i haven't cleaned the pistol yet and think i might run 200 more rounds to see if it gets sluggish, slower cycling. then a well earned cleaning. my all around ammo for hunting and self defense is cci mimi mag hp . Papa wishing you well 😊
cci stingers and mini mags my favorites.no matter what brand it is I only use copper plated points much cleaner.and with loading ten shot mags the soft led points unplated bend.
Good stuff AL. I remember getting a Remington Nylon 66 for my tenth birthday, that's been 53 years ago and have been in love with rimfire guns ever since. Nothing more fun than a full day of plinking and not going broke doing it. I'm with ya on the CCI that's about all I buy but recently i did pick up some of the Aguila Super Extra 22lr at Acadamy Sports in Lexington and it really surprised me how good it performed and how cheap it was. I never did have much luck with Remington or Federal either one. The Winchester Wildcat use to be the king back 50 or so years ago and was about a penny a round and i but i went through a million of them. Thanks for posting this video and bringing back a lot of great memories of my youth.
My dad love the nylon, 66. One of his favorite rifles. And he like the CCI mini mag. We would sit out in the yard on the weekend. And target shoot. Got a lot of great memories. And thank you for sharing some of your memories. I really appreciate that. I want to thank you for watching my friend. You take care and have a most wonderful day.👍👍👍👍
This is an excellent topic, Al.! Here in Cali, I can no longer order ammo online, so we’re pretty much stuck with whatever is on the shelves at the local gun shop. For me, the ‘best ammo’ depends a little bit on the firearm. Most ways, for 22LR I use Federal automatch, CCI stingers, and CCI standard velocity. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸
this subject had been beat to death, you find discussions and literally thousands of viewer comments all over youtube. This channel viewer comments are revealing, the recommendations of viewers are all over the board. I have watched dozens of channels that present gun reviews and those too are valuable insights as to what works but even so you find channels in conflict with other channels about ammo recommendations. I found it interesting that some gun manufacturers have specific ammo recommendations, Walther comes to mind with their 22 mag pistol and 22 long rifle pistols, they have in print a thorough listing of ammo brands/types and how they will perform in their guns. There is a lot more ammo out there than you have on your table today, Fiocchi and Amscor come to mind. Many of the difficulties with ammo are not the ammo but conditions with the gun and shooter operation of the weapon. Spend hundreds of hours on the net, digest everything you can find about this subject, it will be an eye opener.
Good video...! we are all over the place with .22...for the range we match brands to different firearms, thunderbolts in our autos, cheap federal (automatch, range pack, and champion) in our revolvers and rifles...of course cci will run just fine in those guns, but most of that brand (assorted varieties- mini-mags, velocitors, stingers, quiet, shorts, longs, and a couple others) buried in the safe...s&b, and norma are good, winchester can be erratic...aguila has been mostly good...as seniors we love the cheapest bulk ammo we can find, and we are willing to tolerate the occasional dud (all dud rounds get rotated and hit again, the percentage of true duds under 1%, even with the worst bulk ammo)...every blue moon we'll shoot a box of miserable ammo, it happens, simply because no man alive can inspect every single round coming down the manufacturing line...we have zero experience with the very high grade target match ammo, cannot justify the price...yeah, about 2 dozen different brands/varieties on hand, lol...
Hi Al, my go to ammo in 22LR is Aguila super extra and CCI mini mags and Stingers when I can get them. I've had no problems with those 3 but have with others so tend to stick to the main 3.
I have a Ruger Mark 2 Government model target pistol that has @30,000 rounds run thru it. The Wildcat ammo has really dirty powder and gums up the action quickly. Anything CCI does great, and the gun tolerates the Golden bullets.
I heard that my friend. They are some good, 22 caliber ammo out on the market today but at $18-$20 a box. To get a real good clean, persistent, ammunition I guess that’s why I’m stuck with the CCi they are decently clean. And pretty persistent. I Thank you for watching my friend. Take care and have a great day.👍👍👍👍👍👍
I have tried various .22 LR ammo to include all of what's on your table. I like the SK, the Norma, and Eley but when it comes down to it, CCI Mini mags, Stingers and Velocitors are my go to .22's. The bulk pack stuff is cheap for a reason and I have found that the powder charge can range wildly in them and usually on the low side. I would like to find some Yellow Jackets again, I haven't seen them since the early 1980's.
To this date I've never seen them Federal red box. Also you haven't shot your 22s in a long time. 10/22 & the Mark IV. Guessing you'll just make one (1) vid eee yah on that Cricket. I'll gladly give your Mark IV & 10/22 a new home. 😅 oh and your 10" Mark II.

Man if you get a chance try Aemscor , I use these more than any, I did buy 30000 Winchester expert it was absolute junk , I even contacted Winchester and they never responded I did try again still no response, The Armscor I use is 36 grain hollow point high velocity I use it in all my 22lrs including the P 17 model 60s , revolvers , numerous semi. auto 22 pistols and rifles , Vert vert seldom do I have a failure maybe 2-3 out of 10,000
I won't touch any Winchester ammo. Dirty and they have tapered rims, don't eject from many rifles. I'll stick with CCI or Federal red or blue box. I will use Federal auto match for plinking, it's cheap for when the kids are just throwing lead down range. I have a load of Aguila, purchased when I couldn't get anything else and it gunks my pistols up also. Seems to have some sort of dry lube on it.
22 is so fickle at times. i generally use cci standard or mini mags but have several other brands that i use regularly. you just have to figure out what your gun likes
Norma match for competition but for everything else it's gotta be cci std velocity it's budget ammo and I shoot alot of rounds and some guns don't like it but I can honestly count on one hand all the cci std velocity that didn't fire for me.
When I was a kid I remember preferring federal long rifles, although finances may dictate longs or shorts. Now I seem to just stick with CCI. I’ve had great consistency and accuracy with them. Another great video sir, always enjoyable.
The CCI is some ammunition that I can rely on. Over the years it has never let me down. Thank you for watching my friend. You take care and have a wonderful evening👍👍👍👍👍
