    Basic hybrid transportation for those who want high MPG’s and don’t want a Prius. Plus it looks better than a Prius. Well done Joe! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸

    I still see the 1998 Toyota Corolla and older on the streets, I owned one that lasted 214,000 miles, It got me home during hurrican Sandy while other brands were stuck on the side of the road with there Hazard lights on. I for sure recommend the Toyota brand to anyone who is looking for a reliable long lasting vehicle.

      I do agree with the reliability of the Corolla. But you not being on the side of the road during a hurricane has nothing to do with the car but more with driving skill. Those people probably couldn’t see or were scared to drive further.

    I bought one. Love this car. I bought an iPhone to use apple car play (android user), no android car play. The stock infotainment center is useless, slow and clunky. Bought a cover for the center console armrest. I disagree with the you on the interior door panel. It’s easy to clean. Unlike the previous Prius, this car will get unreal gas mileage with aggressive driving. A simple windshield replacement will cost you almost 1500 bucks (thanks for insurance). 900 for replacement and 400 and some change to get lane assist recalibrated at Toyota, which is mandatory. No spare tire. B.S. fix a flat kit, to save weight I assume. 0-60 doesn’t mean much in real world driving. It accelerates nicely in power mode. Speed is not a factor anyway in this demographic. This car is rock solid. A classic dependable Toyota. Would buy this car again in a skinny minute.

That's a major safety omission by Toyota and it would steer me away from this otherwise very decent, economy car. I think you're right, Joe ...for a few grand more, you could buy a Camry or RAV4 hybrid in LE trim and have a more substantial vehicle and also get BSM.

      $29,400 on rav4 to get the BSM option is not just a few k’s $ at 41/38 mpg. That’s nearly 5k $. I’d say 3 years the bsm will be optioned with more carolla trims that the resale value would justify the upgrade if one can manage to drive safely for that long without BSM. Oh how did we manage it for so many years without.

    Personally, I believe the insight may have the slighter advantage here. The Corolla hybrid boasts a slightly higher MPG at the cost of a severely underpowered engine. I drive it easy and I am consistently getting in the mid to high 60 miles per gallon. Looks like I get less mpg during cold weather when I need the interior heat. Braeton Wilson I notice that the brakes are different (apply quickly with less foot pressure on the brake pedal) at slower speed than at normal speeds. I do often feel the automatic emergency brake apply when I am stopped and put it in park. I am getting a consistent 65 mpg. More mpg during the warm months and slightly less during the cooler months - I guess the gasoline engine has to run more than the electric motor to produce heat for the cabin. This the best car I have ever owned and a local Toyota dealership was just as good to have it serviced as the Toyota dealership I purchased it from.

    For sure it's reliable, but imo, the Honda Insight is the better executed and designed hybrid in this class. I still wouldn't buy it though. My money would go to the larger Honda Accord Hybrid, preferably in touring trim. The newly introduced Sonata hybrid with the solar roof could be interesting also.

      Insight has also been around longer so comparing a first year carolla hybrid that has the Prius in the same family is a tough ask when conflict of interest could have eliminated the Prius completely if the Carolla was done to high end hatch spec. Granted I respect your decision to like & choose, we are free to do so in a US market.

    Love the channel! I do like the corolla hybrid, but i wouldn't buy it as it becomes moot when you compare it to the Camry Hybrid. Camry gets noticeably better horsepower, other cool features and practically the same exact MPG. It's strange to me that you can have both HP and decent mpg, but Toyota decided to nerf the corolla anyway.

    tehy should have taken the hatchback and gave it the 168HP engine and mated it with the hybrid system. The Insight is 151 HP and has good acceleration. But the Insight gets not as good MPG. especially over 60mph. If you are going 70mph the MPG goes down. does not happen int he corolla hybrid or the prius.

    • @phuckhugh2698
      @phuckhugh2698 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @pauldenunzio3595
      @pauldenunzio3595 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the first carolla hybrid only in LE where as the rav4 is hybrid is in all trims. It’s clearly testing the US market in its first year since you can get a hatch/wagon overseas which we’d all realistically want here stateside but then they’d compete with the declining Prius sales. The market is now flooded with options. Maybe the Prius AWD will pump up sales. It’s clearly fighting a battle for style, functionality and price. But resale on this in 3 years will hopefully overtake the Prius. Having a hatch/wagon, a larger fuel tank, sunroof and lumbar are my only zonks on it. As for one who wants great gas mileage, modern features of safety and apple car play with a large screen that is an A-B commuter. Good luck competitors but you’re far behind an LE version.
