this video does a great job of highlighting the scale of devastation caused by cyclones in Asia. however, i can't help but wonder if there's a way to address these disasters more proactively rather than just documenting their aftermath. it seems like we often focus on the tragedy rather than the potential solutions or ways to prepare and mitigate these events. what do you think?
It's debatable whether capitalism was the cause. Some say we were doomed since the agricultural revolution, others say the invention of the steam engine, others capitalism, others the industrial revolution, etc. Either way we need a new system besides capitalism to prevent further self-destruction.
Earth's climate has always changed. Desserts were oceans, the arctic was lush. Things have always warmed and cooled and devastating changes to climate have always happened
The fact you spell deserts as desserts tells you all you need to know about your expertise on the topic lol, but besides the misspelling, your argument's reductive too. So yes the climate's always changed, but it's changed on a geological timeframe. We've caused more change in the last couple of hundred years (since the industrial revolution) than has changed in hundreds of thousands off years, and we've only just started. We're now in thermal runaway due to all the fossil fuels we've emitted in the last few hundred years. We've been burning 100 *million* barrels of oil *every* *day* for a long time now, that goes into the atmosphere as a gas and acts like a blanket to hold hold warmth in our atmosphere (the greenhouse effect)
Yes, it heats and cools in cycles naturally. The problem now is humans are speeding up the heating process drastically which will lead to a drastic cooling that will result in the next ice age. We also have the ability to slow or potentially stop the natural cycle as science and technology improve. We just aren’t doing it because of the exact mindset you have expressed.

This is so very sad. Blame Capitalism.

@@maryduhon9769 Are you a climate scientist? If not why should we care what you think about climate science?
