It’s no wonder idols cry when they get their first win. The work that goes into even just getting onto Korean Music Shows is CRAZY!
@seveteensBIGGESTfanfor groups come from small companies, music show is the only chance for them to promote. At the same time the big companies just rig the show and rig the chart.
MAYBE THEY ARE CRYING BECAUSE THEY HAVE PAY FOR THE DINNER 🤣🥲
@@AnHuynh01101 Exactly. The big companies rig the shows and the charts. That's why you see some groups get a win on the day they debut and other groups sometimes take years to get their first win. Just too cruel and unfair. There are so many talented groups from small companies that should get a fair chance.
@@angelanam793 Yeah, I just noticed that how groups from big companies get so much more compared to groups from small companies. BTS didn't get their first show win until they released "I Need U" which was the starting point of their success. Twice got their first show win with "Cheer Up" in 2016 which was the year after they debuted. Blackpink got their first win right after debut. No wonder why idols from small companies cry when they get their first win because it's literally their only way to get into the K-pop mainstream.
I don't want to be that person but thats why I really admire BTS, those of us who have followed kpop from early days know how rigged the Korean music shows used to be and how the Big 3 always dominated there with their money and influence but BTS being from a small, bankrupt company broke that cycle and gave hope to other idols from small companies that anything is possible💜
Simple reason 36$ 😭😭☠️☠️☠️
what do you expect? they're there to PROMOTE their song they don't have to its the same as when you pay for an ad lol
36$ vs promotion? I’ll take the promotion please.
@@SBBunny93 but not all can afford that
@@shubham_gupta9I guess what I’m saying is promotion trumps money. During the initial release cycle. You want more money you need to promote yourself. How do you do that? By going on music shows. Sorry if you’re only getting 36$ but later that will seem like nothing when your music stage reaches 3.5 million views in 24hrs and your album sales went up internationally. Bigger picture seems to be lost on many.
@@SBBunny93 fair enough
That’s ridiculous. They only get payed $36 and Company’s have to pay $7000 just so groups can actually be able to be on the show? What a scam😭. And the fact that Girls Generation went to the performance instead of the hospital is crazy. The fact that even have to do that is horrible 😢. I don’t know why I am just figuring this out. The music show world is dark.
The K-pop industry is just like every other industry, it's all about making big money for these selfish greedy companies.
Singing and dancing is not considered high skilled.
It’s an all or nothing industry
7000 dollars is perfectly fair. Do you understand how many staff have to be paid to work and move heavy equipment, security, catering, audio/video,lighting,monitoring etc. so many people need to be paid for their hard work.
@@blacklikethesun Exactly. People need to be payed for their hard work. Idols deserve more than 36$ 😭. That’s ur opinion so stick to urs and I’ll stick to mine lol 💀💀
@@OliviaJones-kt8im your mistake is thinking promoting on a music show for 36$ is their only form of income. Thsts why album sells, fan events, concerts exist. Its not an opinion because i didnt even mention the 36$. Regarding that however, there should be a set price that isnt lowered or raised based on group popularity. Thats the unfair part considering everyone pays the same entry fee. $300 should be the set pay for appearing. Again, The staff who work at the stations are employees who are paid a salary daily. idols companies are responsible for the bulk of the idols pay. Most are in debt to them. The issues lay with the company. Modhaus for example were able to pay tripleS members in only 2 years because they sell photocard objeckts and the cosmo app to vote for things. it has been super profitable and the 24 members dont have debt now and make a salary. others dont see profit for atleast 5 years. fromis 9 for example.
Ok so now K-pop stans who have watched this video, don't ask your idols and their labels to promote more on music shows. Direct your demands on the broadcasting stations instead or just enjoy what you have and ask for more promo outside music shows.
Idc, I will think of what I will like the most. I don’t care about rich strangers in a foreign countries feelings. Kpop idols could care less about me and you. Most idols come from rich families btw.
The fact that we just know NOW that idols get $36 on music shows is just crazy. Why didn't we know about this before???
I mean did you even care to ask ? Google is free
@@cvyyjg Whoah calm down. Why so mad? 🤣😭
Probably bc the kpop industry likes to sell to fans that it's "perfect"
$36 each or the whole group?
@@gabs5831whole group 😢
bro imagine TripleS splitting $36 between TWENTY FOUR MEMBERS
Broooooo... A dollar fifty!!! That is just INSULTING.
Kpop now is treating music like a Shein outfit. It's horrible. Some great songs are growers and alot of "good" songs are very forgettable. It limits the creativity of talented idols and just makes being an idol a popularity contest. If the industry looked down on idols before this would just demote them further down the celebrity chain. Poor kids.
Then kpop idols should actually learn to sing. Late 4th gen and 5th gen lack so much in talent. No wonder people don’t take kpop seriously. Just look at Le Sserafim emberassing themselves in Coachella.
@@vixxexo6855 As a person who followed 2nd gen groups and then stopped caring abt kpop after that, I was actually so surprised when I saw the kind of idols being produced lately. It's like they're actually being mass produced in a factory, with very lacking skill sets and everything seems to be lipsynced now. It's such a shame what this industry has devolved into, it's become a parody of what it once was. Companies are v obviously pushing out groups that are years from being ready one after another, for the sake of quick cash grabs.
@@vixxexo6855 that's what I mean by Shein outfit. How long did Exo, mamamoo, GOT7,monstax have to train to sound the way they do. They all have distinct RnB sounds that it's very easy to tell them apart even on a random listen. And that's thanks to the big success Gen 2 had when it came to vocals and stage presence, they were a hard act to follow. Now, I can't even tell apart stray kids from NCT let alone the younger idols. I feel bad for these idols who were never given enough time to train and for the generation of kids who pay so much money for trash.
oh yeah and kpop treated music so well before. when can we stop pretending that shit like this is recent.
@@Lime1958 if you can't tell the difference between stray kids and nct, you're really not paying attention lmao.
and are you talking about their "sound" and genre (which producers and their companies take care of) or are you talking about their singing abilities (which the comment you're responding to is talking about).
yall sound like clowns bringing up the "good ole days" when groups usually have 1 or 2 good singers, with everyone else being mediocre. got7 barely had a cohesive "sound" and switched it up to match bts and monstax was really quite forgettable. and i liked monstax. a group like mamamoo is just an anomaly. dont talk about "trash" when you don't even seem to know what you're talking about.
That's why YG don't send group to music show.
Your right 👍
It makes sense now, it's much more better made their own stage of 'live performance', and upload it in TH-cam.
sm too
i really liked the old kpop... but cant help..😢 when idols are getting 36$ for promoting
The 3rd generation was last great generation before all of these changes that we are seeing right now
making idols treat the music show directors to dinner after winning is crazy. Im glad they're losing viewers bc it sounds like a lot of BS
K-pop is changing and i don't think we can change it 😞😭
it has been changing ever since it has been invented what are u on
K-pop during the second and third generations were the best times every. But all has changed especially with the 4th generation and beyond since BTS and Blackpink broke into the US market in 2018 and 2019. From there, companies shifted there focus more on the western markets rather than in Japan and Southeast Asia where K-pop has always been promoted
@@jordicarvajal2834 I disagree a bit. Yes, many do try to promote in the West but they still promote in Japan and Southeast Asia as well. Any K-pop group that gets a big enough audience will eventually promote in Japan because they'll get more money there than in Korea.
@@MrSuperjam789 K-pop back than was so good compared to right now. So many groups are being pushed into the US market so quickly and make their music more appealing to a western audience rather than make real K-pop music. The 3rd generation was the last great generation. It was the generation that got me into K-pop and showed how the genre was amazing and different from western pop.
@@jordicarvajal2834 I'll agree to disagree. 3rd gen music is great but there's some good 4th gen music being made right now. I do agree that many K-pop groups are trying to promote themselves in the U.S. market now earlier than before but I understand why since they'll make more money overseas than in Korea itself.
"which is crucial since the general public doesn't really keep up with artist they are not interested in" -I've been called out. In my defence, there's too many groups, but I do give any group a chance. Good music is good music (once I discover them)
That's basically the same response in Korea among the general public. Too many groups debuting and they have a low opinion on idols in general.
We don't know what we don't know
Why would anybody keep up with artists they're not interested in?
Bro calm down it's just music, you're not required to perform a 2nd job just so nugus can get paid lol, it's ok
Tbh I can't keep up with the amount of groups I am interested in. I literally just hope it comes up on my YT when they have a comeback. I have literally missed out on seeing some of my favourite acts because of it.
Outfits cost so much money yet netizens hate a company if they choose to recycle outfits from other groups .
They aren’t recycling, it’s just stylists all borrow from the same sources.
@@momokoblue8032 yh that
No wonder most idols are moving toward acting.
And there they will found more problems, like being underpaid while the lead actors get most ot the production budget. The entire South Korean entertainment industry has problems, not just Kpop. It's sad.
@@edivaldosantos8321 Actors are more respected than K-pop idols. When it comes to acting, It doesn't matter if they get supporting roles, they'll learn and gain experience and most likely become leading actors/actresses. Just look at Jo Byeong-kyu, I first saw him in a very minor role in the kdrama Who Are You: School 2015 and he went on to be a main actor in The Uncanny Counter kdrama. (Yeah he's not a K-pop idol.) But he worked his way up and got the main lead.
I do agree that the South Korean entertainment industry needs a lot of work.
most idols? that's a huge reach
@@universe986 I said most, not all. A lot of female Idols have moved to acting as have a lot of male Idols.
@@Kayy3020 still not most, some. a lot of also keep being idols
Ngl but only $36 for ONE group!!!!???? What are they playing at?
thats why mnet keeps reuploading popular groups videos because they get tons of views. millions of views, lots of revenue for mnets youtube channel, yet still have the audacity to rob some of them their wins
💯.. especially, Bts and Bp... they're the highest views contribution on every youtube channels...
I never knew abt this 😢😢😢 music show is DARK 😭
finally an informative video from kookielit, you should do more of these!
Finally Kookielit left Hybe's ass and is doing something useful🙌
poor small groups this must be so hard for them .. performing in music shows is the only way they can get known .. but they coast so much money ... a lot of nugu groups can't even afford to be in these shows ..
I feel bad, but wonder why they don’t do another job.
Now when you hear your idols say "We're here because of you" during music shows, its probably true because of all this sh!t happening backstage XD
That explains a lot why so many idols have anxiety and health problems so much stress
No wonder certain group or kpop idols comeback single/album,they just promote for one week only
The same thing happened to monsta x when they didn’t want declined kingdom so mnet banned all starship artists from appearing on their network back in 2021
Monsta X was supposed to be on Kingdom?
@@furuyakeifu yes back in 2021 and mnet tried to deny that they don’t have beef with sse but every fandom noticed that they never invited any sse artists to their shows the whole year
Yeah no wonder Ive started going on Mcountdown during I AM era right?
Only imagine you are in a rookie group and you win , not only you spend around $7000 now you have to invite everyone for dinner…..and we wander why sometimes during concerts or presentations the idols cry 😢
Or if u from small known company
Power corrupts. And absolute power corrupts absolutely.
i knew most of this but didnt know it tied in with the variety shows. 15 years ago me and my friend use to say being an idol is very hard.
People only see the glitters of idol life they dont know the dark background and hard work they do
Very informative video. Always wondered how they balanced the prerecording aspect with the live broadcast portion. Now we know, they wait around all day. Also, having to treat the producers to dinner if you win first place? That should definitely be banned. But now we know why the big groups sometimes don’t show. Reminds me of when Blackpink released their last album, they only did a few performances before they stopped promotions to prepare for their tour. Now we know why. People blamed YG for not allowing the girls to promote more. But if you think about it, they were protecting them. Why exhaust them when they had nothing to gain by promoting nonstop on those shows, whereas they were making millions off of their tour. Anybody could see which is the smarter investment of time and energy.
It's funny because I.U asking EXO's D.O. if he was going to do music shows and he said no made me laugh because I bet you his solo fans blamed SM for not letting him due them for his last two album. But now as the CEO of his own company and him not doing any of them shows it was probably him asking SM not to send him to them and not the company sabotaging an avenue of promotion
Totally fine that idols don't waste their time with this. I remember being rather upset that Soojin wasn't performing on any of these shows, but financially it was probably in both her & her companies best interest that they didn't.
Kpop is all about the producers, paying for exposure, and hard work, and back room deals.. And so many groups never make it, only a few that debut each year.
5:26 that's a sacrifice 😢
Jisoo said that she will perform at inkigayo asa gift for fans
My heart goes to all these wonderful idols. Hopefully, one day things will change and receive what they deserve. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻.
With EVERGLOW announcing their long-awaited comeback with a release 'ZOMBIE' dated for June 10th I hope they promote more than a week.
Many 2nd gen artists had a really rough time getting money. It wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine for them.
exactly lol
There’s still groups like that today they’re just from smaller companies
Because they only get $36
each member or is it divided?😀

Wowwww. The snsd story is CRAZYYY
I miss the old days😢
i work with a lot of big companies this is commonly what they do it is so disgusting 😭😭
I’m hella early. They gotta pay them more for singing and dancing their heart out 😭
Charging 7000 dollars is perfectly fair. Do you understand how many staff have to be paid to work and move heavy equipment, security, catering, audio/video,lighting,monitoring etc. so many people need to be paid for their hard work.
thats why some well known Idol group now prefer hold a concert abroad than promoting at music show, and lots of fans complained 😅
Music show at korea is all about charts, youtube views, online streaming, album selling.
Like Twice or Itzy, knetz said they flopped at Korea but we know they made big money from their recent world tour concert.
so many kpop stans don't know that concerts is the biggest $$$ source lol
A week of promotions seems enough under these circumstances
what the- ,,,, I am still so shocked wtf 😲😳 thank you so much for all of this information again & again!!
Reason :
1.They get paid less
2. You'll get win if u not belong to Big company.
3. Group who get win - Hybe, startship, cube, YG,jyp, SM and cube and survival show group who under kakao sub-lable companies.
4. Who'll investment money if don't get win, not even get chance to stand first row. Big companies group stand in front row at music bank.
5. Kiss of life, unis, xikers, xodiac these groups don't have first win
Music bank should stop giving more awards to single group. Only maximum 3 wins should allow to one group. Then other groups will get chance.
That's why Sakura doesn’t care 😂😂😂
What 😭
Imagine being in a 9 member group being paid 36$😭😭😭😭.
you'd get paid $4💀
24 members* 😂
the first group I thought of were seventeen
@@vixarts4114 tripleS right now 😭😭😭😭
Nct with 26 members imagine when all of them come together after their military period is over to do a year end group performance
I didn't even think they were getting paid to be honest. The broadcast shows are promoting them very well. These shows are how you get to see idols perform at events outside of award shows that happen once a year. I have a genuine question why did people think idols were getting paid at all or a lot of money? Agencies have to pay for promotions, music shows are promotions the same way concept photos, pre-release singles, festivals, and tours are promotions. All of these activities cost money but if you put high quality work forward eventually the effort will pay off in forms of the group getting attention/reaching a bigger audience.
that's what i'm wondering too.. shouldn't it be obvious they don't get payed alot/at all for promotions? Like if you want to be on a show, you pay the show.. if the show wants you to be on the show, the show pays you.. and in the case of promotions the groups want to be on the show, they are paying the show for exposure.. how are people so surprised about this?
Funny, I was thinking along the same lines… do American celebrities get paid to be on talk shows? I always figured they paid the show so they can promote their new book, movie or album. Unless you’re huge famous like Michael Jackson probably.
because music show now are..rigged...🤭🤭
For sure, the amount of win for rookie groups from big companies is insane
But I feel like all groups should perform. Like do as many music shows as you want but atleast perform 3 times
They are two many rules
It better to do it yourself
I think the only main award show idols go to is MAMA because it’s like the Grammys to them
But isn't that an award show?? I thought they meant music shows like music core and m countdown because they promote their comeback there. they perform on award shows like MAMA too but they are there mainly for the award ceremony.
MAMA isn't a Music show.. It's the in qoutes "most prestigious award show in Asia"
@@shorya1471 yeah sorry I didn’t mean music show
@@yasminchan7425 yeah I didn’t mean music show sorry
@@yasminchan7425 its a quote for them but it's not the most prestigious award show in ASIA, I have been watching that since 2nd generation and MAMA barely included all of Asia.
It's basically an award show for Koreans and with some inclusion of other regions in Asia, it's a faulty show and people are now seeing how kpop itself has issues with its system.
Let’s not forget, smaller company groups also have shorter performances or performances cut If their popularity isn’t high enough.
Don't forget that often time those groups from small companies don't even get slot to perform in the music shows😢
I remember when they used to cut Ateez performances back when they were rookies.
It’s the one thing that those music shows costs so much money, but they act really mafia like, like banning the whole groups of a label if not all groups want to promote. Thanks for your information, i didn’t know it was that extremely bad.
Treating the producers and staff after winning 1st is fking ridiculous 💀
Yeah! This is the part fans don't really see and know they just yap and yap not knowing what is going on behind the scenes. 😅
Only naturally talented should be in kpop.
Amazing Information
My idol is blocked since 2010 so I wouldn't know what it feels to have your idol on music shows. Last time I saw him promote was on 2009. I was 19 and he was 23🤷🏻♀️
why do you think hybe goes to those show they pay for every win.
This explains everything
Honestly, the old way of promotion is still something I’m more used to. Might be because I’ve been a fan since 2011, but the promotion should last way longer. Though I have a feeling with how times have changed, that the old way of promoting is not going to survive. New songs have to be released within weeks of each other. It sucks.
interesting video... how do some idols survive is a mistery
I always get excited to watch music bank on fridays
Ok. As a international fan, This vid was vary informative eye and opening. I like knowing some of the industry info that might be common knowledge to some but is new info to me
no one is talking about the banning? the producers/chief producers are so petty. imagine getting into a car accident (a very valid reason not to attend) and instead of going to the hospital you went on music show just because you cant afford to be banned. these producers really have a god complex/narcissist
Those channels like MBC, SBS etc needs to be seriously regulated...the audience pay to go there...that should fund the whole thing, that is how its normally done, the idols should not have to pay too, just creates more money in the channels pockets. I guess the industry is too heavily saturated now that idols literally pay to be one instead of getting paid
All I'm thinking about is how is TripleS handling this 😳
Watching this and knowing SeoAh is the youngest paid idol in the 5th generation 🎉🎉
It makes me sense. True. 😮
that's so sad😢
People are also starting to lose interest in music award shows, they used to be watched by general public but nowadays only fans of the groups that have a performance there watch it, and sometimes not even the entire thing of it, just the part where their faves is in.
Not to mention idols (and most k-artists) now rarely appears in tv cable’s variety shows be it mbc, mnet, sbs, kbs or tvn. Most of them either starts a variety series on their youtube channel or a production team approach them to start a new channel.
en découvrant ca, je me demande comment se passe la KCON qui passe dans tout les pays pour les artistes ?
I was sad Kyungsoo wasn't promoting on music shows but now I'm glas
This set-up is so unfair. The broadcasting companies get all the money. The corporate side of Korean entertainment is even more corrupt than it seemed.
This is very true
This is so complicated
if it really was that expensive to promote groups with many members then we should be seeing a downward trend in # of members in these new groups. but as u can see like Illit and Baby monster they have 5 and 7 respectively. so it seems like many members isnt the problem and its still affordable.
hahaha, i am backreading the comments and found it funny , that some fans just found out about this, i don't know why, but its kind a simple why music shows are expensive
first expense = Tax , broadcast station pays tax to the South Korean government, the bigger revenue the broadcast station has the higher the tax
second expense = broadcast license, in order to watch it and air it, you need to pay a license to have rights to air it in South Korea
third expense = Building Lease, i don't know about it, but most companies just lease the building for a certain number of years then they renew the lease if its up
fourth expense = logistics, in order to for the production equipment to be delivered
fifth expense = production equipment's, a studio equipment is different from a consumer equipment, fee is higher when using a commercial equipment's
sixth expense = production crew, c'mon this is common sense, there a lot of employees in a broadcasting station, and they have salaries that put food on the table
seventh expense = backstage crew, these are your make up artists, PA, etc.. they get payed too,
every year these expense increase, kind of inflation
what happens if one increase, it has domino effect on each expense, I'm pretty sure, employees get increase too every year, they are just not letting you know
these expense could take millions, if there low advertisements on each program of the broadcasting station, where do they put the burden,
that's right to the agencies of the artist,
a deal will take place in order to get a slot on the show
this in return will add on the expense of the agency, then the agency will surely discuss this with the artist's and put in contract
if the artist signs, we are assuming they read the contract
but this is where it gets sad, because for the artist's it will be a hit or miss,
if the artist is gifted but presented with not so well composed music, this will have effect on the result
if the artist got lucky with a nicely composed music but the artist did not do well, this will have effect on the result
if everything comes into place, the artist will be lucky and be like BTS
these are the expense in the background
for fans, so support your biases, and buy their merchandise, as will help them lower their debts and encourage them to not loose hope
for artist whoever is reading this, carefully select the choice of music you will use, because this will make or break your career, this will help your debt situation
see yah!
😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇
Even SKZ seems to have shortened since they’ve started.
Wait..I thought music shows pays artists to perform at their shows🤡
Poor tripleS
THATS CRAZY!
Considering that they have to put in so much money, I'm surprised that n.ssign promoted for so long for their most recent comeback.
I don't understand why ppl want to be idols
Getting paid 36$ - 44$ pay and divided into each member is crazy. And they need to pay the TV broadcast 50K USD for each live band performance is nuts too.
These music shows know that it's the idols that need music shows more than the other way around.
yet mnet deleted & has yet to reupload itzy's debut stage, another dalla dalla live stage aaand their mama 2021 stage 🙄
If I see something about Victon, I choose that video. I'm a simple person.
I always miss my favorite groups once they start gaining recognition. I am happy for them though, I get to see them less but at least they get paid more and have a better quality of life. I'm happy mamamoo promotions have slowed down and they are now focusing on their individual brands and music. I know I will see them perform again in a bigger stage one day and that makes it all worth the wait
Still better rates than Spotify.
That’s probably why K-pop groups under small companies don’t go to music shows that much
No wonder they're so thin. U wake up to do it all over again theyre so busy
The 2nd thing is because usually only the rookies or the less popular groups are placed in the first 30mins of a music show or first 1 hour..a lot of viewers dun even tune in to the show for the first 30mins or 1 hour ..so all the effort spent performing and recording is wasted..
Hii!
While it is a benefit, especially for lesser known idols, it seems like a scam by the broadcast companies taking advantage despite the low viewership due to viewers changing the way they consume media. Hopefully something new arises that'll get nugus the exposure they need, while also not being so demanding physically and monetary.
one more thing Music show easy to get Rigged by some agency who have share stock with that music show 🤷
Wow! That's very unfair. I only fully stan 2 groups, Exo and Mamamoo and as they are quite established and are known to have some of the very best vocals in the industry, being on these shows wont really put a dent in their popularity. For me, best vocal groups in 3rd gen. . However, i feel for the groups just starting out. They are over there having to give an arm and a leg to be on these shows.
I didnt know they paid for live interviews. I finally learned something from these vids. thx
Im TOO EARLY!!☠️☠️☠️☠️
