- Elephants Seals weigh more than a Chevy Suburban; and their cousins, the Harbour Seals, weigh about the same as the driver. This family reunion is going to be awkward. Oh, and the Elephant Seals have combat noses.

As weird looking as these animals are, I find them strangely noble. The way they rear up and test one another's ability to take the pain is incredible.

Baikal seals arent actually the only exclusively freshwater seals, there is also the Saimaa Ringed Seals, that live exclusively in lake Saimaa in Finland. There is about 400 of them and they're very dear to the Finns

Was going to comment on Baikal seals being the only seals living exclusively in fresh water but then remembered that Saimaa and Ladoga ringed seals are technically considered subspecies that just have been living separate from other ringed seal populations since the last ice age. Their small population sizes have made them drift from the other ringed seals though.

My first encounter with an elephant seal was at Sea World San Diego. They had a "performing" elephant seal names Googles. His act was playing a prop banjo to pre-recorded music. Not very dignified for such a majestic animal.

She's pantomiming playing a drum set, with a cymbal at the end. There's a particular three-note sequence that's commonly used to fill in the silence after a cheesy joke, usually written something like "Ba-dum tiss!"
Baikal seal isn't the only fresh water seal! Saimaa ringed seal is another one, and extremely endangered. And very very cute ❤️

This video made me realize how much seals are actually named after other animals; Leopard Seal, Sea Lion, Elephant Seal, etc. And now Im wondering what animal has the most species with other animals names mixed into its own

Elephant seals can hold their breath for 100 minutes. That's one hour and 40 minutes. I couldn't spend that long _thinking_ about holding my breath.
