SS is a punk band from Kyoto. It is one of the earliest Japanese punk bands to start working under the direct influence of London punk, which became a worldwide boom in 1977. The high-speed performance style, which can be said to be the forerunner of hardcore punk in the 1980s, can be seen from the sound sources recorded on the live board and the movie "Rockers". Vocal Tommy Guitar Shinoyan (Jun Shinoda) Bass Tsuyoshi (Takeshi Takeno) Drum Takami (Takaomi Isono) Tokyo Rockers and Kansai NO WAVE Formed in 1978 by Shinoda and Tommy, who belonged to the light music lab of a part-time high school. The two had published the punk fanzine "Chinese Club". Shinoda made his live debut at "Blank Generation Tokyo Rockers in Kyoto" held at Seibu Kodo, Kyoto University, half a year after he started playing the guitar, and was shocked by the friction of the first members. Aiming to increase the speed of performance as the only measure that can be countered even if the technical ability is low, we will devise a style that repeats the performance starting with the shout of one-two-three-four and ending in less than one minute per song.At the end of the year, he traveled to Tokyo and participated in the Christmas gig at S-KEN Studio on December 23, and held at Shimokitazawa Loft on December 31 "1978 Tokyo Rockers Ozume Last Live !!" This style was shown at the show, and the performance full of so-called "initial impulses" attracted the attention of Hideaki Tsushima, who was involved in the documentary production of Tokyo Rockers at that time, and the live at that time was shot in a hurry, and two songs were shot in Tokyo. It was recorded in the recorded movie "Rockers" of the early punk new wave scene of. Kung Fu's dogi, which was used as a stage costume for these two occasions, was a souvenir of Tommy's business trip to Hong Kong, where he was working in fashion. SS speed punk and hardcore In the 1980s, bands calling themselves hardcore punk were born one after another in various parts of the United States and the United Kingdom, but where is the style of playing ordinary simple street punk at extremely high speed and finishing one song in about 1 minute? It's not always clear if the band started first. The exception is the case where Minor Threat of Washington, D.C. and his predecessor, The Teen Idles, have articulated the influence of Bad Brains since its formation. Among them, it is noteworthy that SS performance has already adopted the same style as a Japanese band in the 1978 stage. The band formed after the dissolution of SS has changed the playing style, and it is impossible to think that SS is the originator of hardcore punk in Japan (or the world), but so-called hardcore style was born at the same time all over the world. It can be said that this is a case that suggests the possibility.
SS is not a London Punk follower. They clearly said that they were strongly influenced by FRICTION. They wanted to play like FRICTION but they couldn't because they didn't have such technique. So they decided to play faster and faster, aimed fastest on the earth! Isn't that real PUNK!?
@@101formmathey may have not been a follower but it's pretty clear they were into American/UK punk, I mean the club was called blank generation. These records spread all over the world. Also hardcore punk formed in similar times all over the world, it wasn't a genre in the sense we think of it now, it was like the distinction between punk/new wave and hardcore punk(people said the police were punk at the time, so that shows you how expansive the label was)saying "we don't play new wave we play hardcore punk) it didn't really get codified as a full genre till Discord/SST. There's tons of hardcore bands from 78 like The Middle Class from Santa Ana California, The Rude Kids from Sweden released the first hardcore LP I'd say it's called Safe Society. There's a 7" by The End from 78 that sounds like California hardcore. It was the direction many bands were going.

SS speed punk and hardcore
