absolutely brilliant. I have dear old friends in Ireland and bought this on tape on one of my trips there many years ago. Sadly some of my friends have passed on but these voices never fail to bring a back fond memories of my times in Clare and the west of Ireland. Beautiful people, beautiful place, beautiful music.
Beautiful! What gorgeous harmonies.I love the fact that all three voices are so distinct and add to the feeling in the song rather than just having harmony for its own sake.
Of all the money e're I had, I spent it in good company And all the harm I've ever done, alas it was to none but me And all that I've done for want of wit, to memory now I can't recall So fill to me the parting glass, goodnight and joy be to you all If I had money enough to spend, and leisure time to sit awhile There is a fair maid in this town, that surely has me heart beguiled Her rosy cheeks and ruby lips, I own she has me heart enthralled So fill to me the parting glass, goodnight and joy be to you all Of all the comrades e're I had, they are sorry for my going away And all the sweethearts e're I had, they'd wish me one more day to stay But since it fell into my lot, that I should rise and you should not I gently rise and softly call, goodnight and joy be to you all.
Best version I've ever heard outside of their recording on the CD "Many's the Foolish Youth". Just a little tighter on the CD. (Should be the 3 of them singing.) Beats the big production versions...won't mention names. Thanks for posting! Hard to find them!
stunning, after listening to the budget over the last few days, thinking of all who have left in the last few years and those who will leave soon, breaks my f*"king heart (sorry for the language) but thats straight from the heart
@gerdenshed thanks Mark - the video started in Whittington, Shropshire, then to a couple of local shots - moving on the Eglwys Beuno Sant (St. Beuno's Church) in Clynnog Fawr.
Best version!
This is still the best version of this song that I've heard.
Seconded
Yes and then comes Ed Sheeran and drives a horse and coaches through it. Stay away Sheeran!

In heaven every pub will have this on a jukebox and it will be played as I leave to get my fish n chips.

Chills/goosebumps everytime!
Last song my sister and I listened to as they closed the casket of our one and only Papa (RIP 10/1930 - 9/2010)

Wonderful a cappella harminizing. Incredible sense of pitch.
