  • I just had to take a last minute ride before I hung up the trike for 6 weeks recouping after my spinal stenosis surgery. Might as well make it a challenge. Will they let me ride my trike up to Waimea Falls? Let’s go find out.
Mahalo nui loa for riding along with us as we trike all throughout the Hawaiian islands.
PS: my channel features original music, video and photos. Here's this week’s music:

I ride a HP Velotechnik Scorpion FS26 recumbent trike . Here's a link with more gear and facts: www.coconutjoe.com/trike.html

Mahalo Bryan. Surgery was a success, back home recuperating. Can’t wait to be back on the road and in the water.

I’ve been separated from my Trike Awareness System twice. The first time I’d taken my car in for brakes and alignment (put the trike on the back) and while it was there took off on a 12 mile ride (each way) for coffee while they did the work. Got to the stop for coffee and went in and got my drink but when I returned, I noticed that the top section of my flag was missing. At this point I figured it was gone as I had absolutely no idea where it had departed the trike. I originally was planning on taking a different route back but backtracked my route in hopes of finding my flag. About halfway back I found it lying on the bike trail and the flashing light I had mounted on it was still there and flashing. The other time I had stopped for coffee and since it was a bright sunny hot day had backed my trike into a corner of the building so I could sit in what little shade was available while enjoying my iced coffee. When I got home and went to remove my flashers to recharge them, I noticed the top half of the flag was missing, I had absolutely no idea where I had lost it. I bit the bullet and ordered a new flag and then a couple of days later when I stopped at the same place for coffee there was my flag sticking out of one of the trash cans. Looking at the corner where I had sat there was a drainpipe on the side of the building and I deduced that when I had rolled backwards into the shade the flag had got caught on one of the brackets and stayed there as I left. I have found that a thin coat of clear nail polish on the male portion of the flag pole will make the joint a little snugger to prevent the inadvertent separation of the joint.
    Good luck on the surgery.

Missing flags are the bane of trikers I suspect, I’ve lost several over the years but twice in one day. Yikes. The new pole connectors I used were the cause. I have since duct taped them to add strength. Thanks for the surgery best wishes. It was a complete success, back home resting and recuperating. Can’t wait to get back on the road.

    Aloha Bob!
What a great recumbent trike ride to Waimea Valley and tge Falls. The botanical gardens were just beautiful... Did you ever locate "Donald Duck" on your ride? 😂
I recently lost the top half of my trike flag along with it's flashing light. It was "grabbed" by a tree branch along the NW River Trail as I rode past it. I had absolutely no idea that it was missing until I reached the parking lot. And like you, a good citizen (biker) saw me in the parking lot at my car and told me where I could find it. And sure enough, I back tracked and there it was still hanging down from the tree with the awarenesd light still flashing away. 😅
Good luck with your upcoming back surgery. 🙏
I had to chuckle a bit when I saw you get off your trike and go get your ticket. I said to myself, " Wow... Bob walks like me when I first get off my recumbent trike!" 🙂

Aloha Tom. Mahalo for the comments and the lost flag story. So great to have outstanding citizens on the trails. Yeah, old man getting off the trike was fixed by the surgery. No more sciatica, great success. True, I will still walk funny when getting off the trike. Ha Ha.

I'm so glad to hear that your surgery went well. 🙏 Sciatica is truly a PITA.
