I had the Fanatec Shifter, and wouldnt recommend it. I often changed between sq and h-pattern tepending the car I drove and almost every time, after a few laps in sequential Mode the gearchanges were not recognized anymore. i assume due to the vibration of the gearchange, the switch slider to choose between h-pattern and sq, slided back a bit. My only solution was a piece of carved wood, which I put in between.
Yup! Don’t recommend it. I’ve owed two Fanatec shifters since 2017. The first one I switched between H and SQ a lot. It actually started registering wrong gears in the first two months of ownership. Had it repaired then it started doing it again about 6 months later. I ended up giving it away. Then I bought another one and it worked fine for about 9 months. 8 of those months I never switched it to SQ mode, not once. Then in the 9th month I started switching it between SQ and H and it almost immediately started registering wrong gears. I had to send it out to be repaired. I just got it back a few days ago. I know for sure the problem will come back. Garbage. This is why we need more H Pattern shifters on the market. With what’s available on the market currently I’d recommend a TH8A and an AioLogs. Don’t even go near the Fanatec.
@@OhItsThat Yeah you have really had issues with yours mate!.. So you never had an issue untill you started using it in SQ mode. Really sad Heusinkveld never got their H pattern out.. . Would have loved to try that one!
R-VR Closet The HE one would have been great. It’s a shame they felt it needed to be a H/SQ combo. Its high end sim gear aimed at the enthusiast sim racer who will most likely have space to mount a separate SQ. If they were thinking something more mainstream and affordable I’d say they don’t have the production capacity to produce a product that they can sell to the masses. Their products are never in stock to begin with, pre pandemic. Who cares what people can invent if you can’t buy one cause they can’t actually make enough. Plus they already make a great compact SQ shifter so why compete with yourself or with products you already have? I think the reality of a H/SQ combo isn’t doable without major comprises at both ends. At least not if you want it to be an immersive product for a price that’s reasonable. As well as reliable after years of thrashing on it. I’m sure they could have figured something out eventually but the fact that they shelved it shows the combo shifter isn’t very reasonable if you want good H and SQ functionality in the same device. It leaves to much room for problems down the road I think.
@@OhItsThat So was that why they cancelled it, they thought we wanted another SQ/H shifter on the market??.. There is a DIY fix for the Fanatec mis-shifts, it involves putting some insolation tape (electrical tape I think Americans call it) on the back of the two circuit boards to stop the short causing the mis shifts. Theres a video on youtube, its extremely easy and mine has worked since.
@@RVRCloset No probs, I'm not making excuses for them, honestly it's mind-boggling that they even still sell it with such a basic, easily-fixable design flaw. Fanatec SQ 1.5 Miss shift issues? READ HERE: Electrical tape between the sensor board and the metal where it's mounted. I have the Fanatec Shifter, the SQ 1.5, and had miss shift issues. Sometimes it would be fine, other times it would keep registering the wrong gears. 3rd instead of 5th. Reverse instead of 1st. 4th instead of 6th. I was frustrated and about to give up. I tried the little centering magnet fix. No dice, mine was in the right position and glued in place. THEN, I came across 2Old4Forza's fix video. He showed lifting up the little circuit board with the sensor and placing some electrical tape between the board and the metal it rests on. IT WORKED. There must have been a short happening. I have not had any issues since.
@@RVRCloset No problem. After seeing a few of the comments, I can imagine others getting this issue and the fix being difficult to find. The Frex looks great, BTW. Probably my next upgrade after I get my 8020 rig together. Thanks for the informative video!
Here's what's wrong with that theory. You can put the tape on the sensor board, but the metal screws go through the tape and into the metal plate, so that assures that the tape actually insulates nothing. Also the magnet fix is no fix at all. The magnet being centered is not that important anyway. When you calibrate the shifter, that's a big part of what you're doing, correcting for a possibly miss-aligned magnet. I've had this same issue with 4 separate CSS SQ shifters. Almost every time I took the top off to try to fix it, just taking it off and putting it back on seems to make it work for a few days, or even a few weeks. This led me to think the tape fix had worked, but I kept having to repeat the "fix" every few weeks, until it dawned on me that you circumvent the insulating property of the tape the instant you screw the sensor back on. One thing that DOES happen that can cause this... there is a tiny 3 inch long 4-wire harness that plugs from one thing to another that is flexed every time you shift. These wires are tiny and can crack and short, cause the wrong gear to be selected. check for wear and put a dab of silicone sealer on the wires where they enter the plug on each end. Remove the harness first unless you want to accidentally glue it in...
