I tend to see the different Druid circles as being determined by local culture. Up in the mountains you might have Land druids that focus on harnessing the elements, while down the mountain and out on the steppe you've got Shepherd druids who tend to the herds of -sheep- cows. But take a trot down into the huge fissure in the earth, and you find cliff-dwelling tribes who learned Spore druidry from the Underdark miconids. It all really depends on what area of expertise the people of a culture value in their wise persons. Those bits of ancient wisdom that are useful for a certain community will get passed on, while other areas of natural study get forgotten, or their practitioners leave to seek places where their methods are needed. Also, not all ancient Druid wisdom necessarily comes from mortals. Some might have been divinely inspired by nature gods (note the overlap between Druid and Nature domain Clerics) or by the Fae. Some might come from nature spirits that ancient Druids communed with in days of yore. Some might have been taught by wise monsters, such as treants, dryads, dragon turtles, or the like. Some might even have derived their wisdom from the efforts of intelligence; ancient, forgotten Wizards having derived spells, that were passed along by rote for so long that they became the intuitive arts of a Druid rather than that of an academic. (Note: nothing says old, rural cultures can't ALSO have Wizards, too. Books of "witchcraft" passed down through family lines, cat familiers, etc).
I’m actually playing a rogue scout with moon druid subclass rn, and flavoring it as him having an unnatural talent for wildshape. As a writer myself I need this book, not just to have several peculiar creatures in my future games. But hopefully to inspire me outside of D&D I have been having difficult time conjuring ideas for a character's familiar and this may just help me out of that issue. I'll happily make a hefty pledge for this book. May go for the elder tier for the unique print.
Yes!! Another who loves druids as much as I! Splendid!! Also, Land and Moon druid roles and lore are explained on their FR page, and Spore druids are pretty easily described in Ravnica. Dreams I tend to associate with the mystical Feywild but with chill, positive vibes that remove stress and treat mental trauma. Sort of mshaman-medic type folk who draw power from the night.
Great video thanks man! Recently I had actually made a multiclass PC which was Druid with Circle of the shepherd and Warlock Pact of the Chain. Super pet class mainly. You can summon a flock of familiars and with your druid skills, also summon wildlife or fey to aid you. I felt this class would be quite unique as they could be wielding a lot of utility or CC but also aid others in combat using your familiars to help others (gain advantage, distract foes, poison foes, etc.).
I lvoe the idea of the shepherd druid mainly because of the reflavorability - For example, you can make a technomaster warforged shepherd druid by reflavoring the conjuration spells as conjuring mechanical dolls. Or you can make a doll master the same way. Or you can reflavor yourself as a formless parasite, reproducing using magic (Chaotic evil... thing). I'm sure there are many other reflavoring ideas you can use, but the first one and the third one are the ones I wanna play.
I have a 5e Div Wizard 2, Shepherd Druid 10 tiefling in Adventurers League and he has 4 legally non concentration animals by his side. A flyng snake pet called Mata Mata that's been awakened and becomes a find familiar when it dies, an owl familiar called Moe, a figurine of power giant owl called Joe and, thanks to a ring of spell storing, a find steed Elk called Monoko
You know, I always equated Druid Circles to Hag Covens. A bunch of individually minded people that recognize that together they are far stronger than any one of them alone. Of course, a Druid Circle would probably be much more congenial that a Hag Coven.
I am playing one now and reflavored everything to spectral moths while the summoned beasts/fey are the moths forming that creature, his healing happens to be spectral moths landing on the person, or when he uses healing spirit it’s a swarm of translucent spectral moths.

Our hexblade just got a pet mimic because our DM is awesome and let his nat20 on animal handling be cool Also shepherd druids are awesome, my first character was a shepherd druid with the hawk spirit
The aspect of the Faithful Summons ability is either falling to 0 HP OR being Incapacitated against your will, which is an aspect of 5 status conditions. So, even if you have full HP, if you are knocked Unconscious by a Sleep spell or Stunned by an enemy Monk's Stunning Strike, your Faithful Summons ability will still activate, and suddenly Bears.
druids are my favorite class in general because they heal, support, control, use damaging spells, do well in melee, and tank a bunch of hits in other words druids do everything so no two druids will likely be the same especially once you take into account the abilities they get from subclass's
Someone should let Stibble know that the Unicorn totem only affects *your healing* spells, and that you can't "regain" temporary hit points with the 10th-level feature (owls still only have 1 actual hit point).
Great video, i myself im making a setting where i made all the beast being half of a couple of animals, so druids might have crazier options to transform, there is also some beasts with cantrips
I'm SO happy there are people out here that love the Druid that I do. It's my favorite class (ironically the Shepards Cricle is my favorite Subclass) and I feel like it doesn't get enough attention as a supportive caster because Clerics and Bards exist. Also the Druid does the defender of nature role 10 times better than the Ranger and has cooler abilities. I hope someday people can see how useful Druids can be and play them more often. (Seriously I think only I and a few other people have Druid as our favorite class).
Dear Logan I want you to know that because I love your creative energy and who you are as a narrator so much you convinced me to sign up for Kickstarter just so I can back you. I know it's not that much but I believe in you and I want to see you succeed. Thank you for all that you do, Thomas

As someone who'd played this subclass please listen. Make sure you know how high your dm is planning to go with the campaign. This class is a blast at lower levels regardless, but if you are not big on managing summons, don't play this higher levels because that's what the focus is. Even tougher to manage in an online game imo.

Does it include any custom races, or spells, what about the gods and monsters, besides that cosmic horror that as you said, burped everything into existence?
Has anyone considered playing a half orc shepherd druid with faithful summons. drop to 0 hit points, trigger faithful summons, then use your half orc bullsh*t to get to one hit point, and then cast conjure animals when it comes to your turn to have more animals because faithful summons doesn't require concentration.

the scene with 4 ICEE polar bears beating up sarumon to the tune of X gon give it to em really got me good
As a writer myself I need this book, not just to have several peculiar creatures in my future games.
I would die for Stibbles
You will.
Have a good day Wonderful
2:21 why tf is that image so funny
At this point i just want to run a jojo's campaign where everyone including the enemies use the dnd "def not a stand user" subclasses
At 0:12 I unironically thought there was some weird monster thing in the video
You know, I always equated Druid Circles to Hag Covens. A bunch of individually minded people that recognize that together they are far stronger than any one of them alone. Of course, a Druid Circle would probably be much more congenial that a Hag Coven.
I am playing one now and reflavored everything to spectral moths while the summoned beasts/fey are the moths forming that creature, his healing happens to be spectral moths landing on the person, or when he uses healing spirit it’s a swarm of translucent spectral moths.
THANK YOU SO MUCH I NEEDED THIS VIDEO FOR WEEKS AND I LOVE IT!!!!!
It better fits the junk in gungeon. If you level the junk knight up to near max, it does the same thing as the pig.
stibbles is also the one who killed the BBEG at level 2
My favorite thing about the circle is with faithful summons you basically can make your body explode into bees when you die
6:16 - when the nerd teaches free after school classes to the local gang members and one day a school bully has the very stupid idea to beat that very nerd.
I'm playing a lizardfolk circle of the moon druid and i flavored my totems as triceritops, pterodactyl, and parasaurolophus. He summons dinasours and lizards. Overall would recommend class. Also excited for your book.
I love this subclass
I paused this and watched 2 hours of Gus Johnson and now my life is forever changed
I actually plan on getting the codex for my group, because we love having animal companions in our games. Our hexblade just got a pet mimic because our DM is awesome and let his nat20 on animal handling be cool
Also shepherd druids are awesome, my first character was a shepherd druid with the hawk spirit
Another fun part of faithful summons is that it can kick off if youre incapacitated. Say bbeg can grapple and restrain you. Whoops accidental bears.
2:04 - Creepy sheep, givin' me bad bad bad baad baad dreams!
Someone should let Stibble know that the Unicorn totem only affects *your healing* spells, and that you can't "regain" temporary hit points with the 10th-level feature (owls still only have 1 actual hit point).
Owls have flyby attack. That is why they are the best normal familiar in most situations. Kite the owlbear with a massive owl swarm.
(Seriously I think only I and a few other people have Druid as our favorite class).
i was planing on making a Sheperd druid ,
unfortunally i will propably DM now ,
but you gave me some nice inspiration so thank you .
Lols, picturing pipin as a secret shepherd druid when they show up at saruman's tower.
‘These spirits have ORA! effects’
Dear Logan I want you to know that because I love your creative energy and who you are as a narrator so much you convinced me to sign up for Kickstarter just so I can back you. I know it's not that much but I believe in you and I want to see you succeed.
Thank you for all that you do,
Thomas

I never thought I’d see the day where a Lorain, OH reference was made.
Right my dude, lived there for a while but from elyria. Now I wounder if he's from around here.
It's 3:40 AM, I can't sleep and my nose is both completely stopped up and draining and I have no cold medicine. This is why I laughed at the Zingers joke.
Funnily enough, sheep are rather smart, as is all pack animals, they form bonds with other members of their herd members, will fight with them to fend off threats, and they grieve when one of them is killed
I seriously don't understand what makes your videos so funny. But I crack up two stitches every single time I watch one of your videos. I have been rolling on the floor laughing hysterically before and I don't get it that's never happened to me on TH-cam. Keep at it you're amazing. I'm also a DM so it's incredibly informational.
*insert Narancia Abbachio and Mista kickin' that one dood*
4:39 Unicorn totem does not give ALL spells a healing effect, only the ones that restore hit points
so just a note but the unicorn spirit does not give ALL spells a passive healing effect but only triggers when you use a healing spell to begin with, big difference
*Four big-ass animals show up to defend the dying Druid...*
Me: I mean, that might give my team time to heal-
*FOR AN HOUR.*
Me: Hey, Ranger! Get me down to 0HP! Trust me, you guys are gonna love this!
Or 64 velociraptors
I’m considering taking a dip I to shepherd druid, for my swarmkeeper. She can already summon fea spirits so it just fits thematically
“Go watch everything Gus Johnson has ever made” JOKES ON YOU....i have and its all incredible, excellent taste my man
I always thought a Shepherd Druid ought to be something like Tiffany Aching if she was a hippie instead of a Witch.
Imagine a Path of the Wildsoul Barbarian, a Wild-magic Sorceror and a Circle of the Sheperd Druid being in the same campaign. The Odd Squad!
As someone who'd played this subclass please listen. Make sure you know how high your dm is planning to go with the campaign. This class is a blast at lower levels regardless, but if you are not big on managing summons, don't play this higher levels because that's what the focus is. Even tougher to manage in an online game imo.
"Do you even know how to finish it?"
The editing in this is magnificent.
YOU DARE MOCK THE CIRCLE OF SHEPHERDS?
life has many doors runesmith boy!
Love the druid information, not enough out there!
I was going to play a Yuan ti warlock(pact of the tome Great old one) and the faithful summons is the spell I want to take.He is basically a follower of Yig, the locexraftian serpent God, so I thought gigantic snakes would rupture out his body upon death.
Runesmith,
Could you do a video specifically on your tesseract dnd setting? I know you talked about in your world creation video, but I would really like to hear a lot more about it, and what makes it different from the Forgotten Realms. Does it include any custom races, or spells, what about the gods and monsters, besides that cosmic horror that as you said, burped everything into existence?
Had to pause the video and laugh for like two minutes when you called Owlbears Apex predators
1:40 Missed opportunity to point out that "finishing it" is exactly the problem: you are out of zingers, you finished the box
You didn’t know about faithful spirit. It’s like the big shepherd thing! You die, but your mortal body is only a vessel for four rhinoceros.
Backed the book on day 1 and am super excited for it
I don't mind an add at the beginning and end but seriously the constant reminder of you book made me want buy it even less.
i watched this video yesterday at 2 am when i was drunk af, now im watching it again, and it´s making me feel sick, like my hangover is back. Weird
great video tho
Greysin Thorne Fey. Druid caster, battle control and support minor healer. "Stay out of the grove, you're pissing off my pixies and my Suntail Hawk companion". "Raging vines of the Earth, all come upon thee, wall of brambles rise, Grandfather Tree must be protected, if Grandfather Tree falls, all Faerun is forfeit" "pixies load your blow darts" "animals of the High Forest come swiftly, the likes of men of dwarves have abandoned the their seats at the Stronghold of the Nine"
Ok, now i know what i'll play as when bg 3 comes out
