Feb 2021- Some people have asked why I have been leaving trail and summit names out of many of my recent videos. This decision came due to issues with what I would consider uneducated hiker behavior during the 2020 hiking season. The most notable of which was trash, and human waste / toilet paper I had been finding directly on or next to the trail. With the pandemic hitting a lot of people took to the outdoors for escape and I certainly cannot blame them. In fact, I encourage it. However, it appears many of these people did no research on common outdoors etiquette or how we should treat the trails and outdoor areas that we and others regularly frequent for recreation and escape. If you are using this video for planning purposes and are a newer hiker please watch this video before heading out on trail. This video is me explaining some of the etiquette around hiking and camping that I wish others had shared with me when I started getting outdoors: th-cam.com/video/dhd7E4rGIwA/w-d-xo.html And please familiarize yourself with the principals of leave no trace lnt.org/why/7-principles/ www.nps.gov/articles/leave-no-trace-seven-principles.htm Here is an article about the issue with trash and human waste specifically in the Whites www.nhpr.org/post/trouble-trails-forest-service-grapples-crowds-trash-and-human-waste#stream/0 Another article about Max Patch (an iconic part of the Appalachian Trail) and the issues occurring there www.citizen-times.com/story/news/local/2020/09/23/max-patch-residents-campers-creating-safety-hazards-mountain/5858936002/
Saw the video title and thought, "wow, he's in my neck of the woods", but this is DEFINITELY not the Sugarloaf Mountain in Central Florida at a lofty 312 feet.
I've been dreading the drive, but you are making me excited to head up! Thanks for the motivation! I have been watching you since you were on the AT and it's fun to see you in NH now. I'm doing the 52 as prep for my thru next year.
I don't mind the long rides. We hit Magalloway after this. Nice scenic ride up there. I always try to leave super early in the AM when the least amount of people are out haha. Its great to be back up in NH. Hoping if I knock out the 52 to start making videos of the 48 again but in Winter hopefully. Best of luck on the thru! AT?
Yes, hiking the AT, did an end to end of the Long Trail last summer, and it's time for me to leave my comfort zone of New England now! I think I listened to the entire STown Podcast driving back and forth to Magalloway! 😊
thats awesome! My gf did the long trail this summer. I was planning to but didnt happen. The AT will be quiet the adventure hoping for another long hike soon myself!
I post pics to Instagram at the moment. I really gotta get around to creating my own website though. You can check out the instagram here instagram.com/chrisgoesoutdoors/ Anna doesnt really post too many pics they are more for her kind of personal enjoyment.
Hi Chris, and nice to meet you, Anna! Still working on my 48 list- at 30 right now. I haven't been able to make it up there recently, but Sugarloaf definitely on the redline list. Looks like it might be a great winter snowshoe hike. Thoughts? 1,000 feet a mile gain is pretty steep, but it looks like it was steady, no scrambles, etc.
No real tricky parts at all on this trail. I would love to do it in winter but I believe the road that goes through Nash Stream Forest is closed in the winter and this is like 8 miles or so down that road. Not sure if they open it to snow mobiles or something but it would be a long boring walk to get down there in the winter if that road is in fact closed haha
Yeah, that's the prob with a lot of them. That's why I'm trying to get the ones I have left on my 48 list done before the access roads close. Steve Smith gave me a great list of winter hikes for the 48's that you can reach easily. 8 miles just to get to the trailhead? I'll plan on an in-season hike for that one! Thanks!
Just currently trying to knock out the 52 in NH at the moment. I'm pretty sure I've got most of the 100 done too but haven't actually gone over the list too much. This was a great hike!
@@ChrisGoesOutdoors oh right, I forgot that it includes this Sugarloaf and the middle peak of the 'Sugarloaves' in Carroll. Im about halfway through the 52 I think. Can't wait to see some more of these hikes from ya

Hey Chris, it looked like Anna was taking some stills at the top of Sugarloaf; have you guys posted any of the stills you've taken on your hikes?
