  • This #patiofurniturechallenge was supposed to be fun! While I'm looking forward to seeing what my fellow TH-camrs do with it, my entry was anything but fun. In a future video I will show the failed attempts to use chemical strippers but in this video the focus is on a sand blaster. It was a failure but I can't say it was complete rubbish. (Someday I will try it on a piece of wood furniture.) More testing is required but I am now understanding the fee charged by professional sand blasters.
    In the end a carbide scraper had the most impact and yes there was a whole lot of sanding (this project took a very long time.) Paint was my saving grace, however, as this was an outdoor piece I gave it layers upon layers of paint. Hopefully it will be enjoyed for decades more before it needs another refinishing.

    Holy crap, that would have sent me over the edge. You really had it turn out beautiful. You almost had to put it through all those steps to get it clean. Just thought of the old goldfish story , when your kids goldfish croaks you go buy them a new one. Well, if they paid you enough you could go buy a new set and pass it off as theirs, lol. Then sell theirs to make up any difference. All I can say is omg, you really gave it your all and it turned out nicely.

      @@diysbydar Hahaha, I did get a couple price quotes on having it professionally sand blasted and it was a bit more than what I was going to charge. But if there is ever a next time I will direct folks straight to the professional.

    Oh, wow! What a lot of work, right?? I refinished an iron filagree soap dish (yeah, 400 times smaller than what you're working on). It'll be easy... I scraped, sanded, stripped with a decent stripper. Brushed off the old finish with a steel brush as much as I could. NOTHING removed the finish & I didn't have any PeelAway architectural stripper, sad. I didn't want to spend $60 on stripper to refinish a soap dish. (The tiny soap dish from hell, I call it.) Amazing work, Margie - it looks awesome 🥰🥰🥰

      @@OwlingDogDesign Thank you! The loveseat was where I learned that the 3 different strippers were not going to be the answer😆 Future video

      @@thekraftycreech thank you! There were moments when I thought it would not get completed (started bringing out the camera less) and if I didn’t have the challenge set up I might have called the owners and tell them I couldn’t do it🫣

      @AskingSpot I hear you!!! I quit doing custom projects a long time ago.. it was nice always having jobs and things like that but when I'd run into issues like this it really made me hate life haha!! So I just stopped doing custom work. Plus, I was always so busy and never really was able to get creative because everyone wanted everything painted white! Ugh. It took alot of joy out of it for me, but the money was nice lol!!

    Woah! That is a lot. I've never tried removing the enamel paint from outdoor pieces. They came out beautiful! I can't wait to see it with the accents.

      Thank you! Have to say this is the last time I will try to remove the enamel. Although maybe if it wasn’t sauna hot I might have more patience 🧖‍♀️🥵

    I saw a set just like this at my local thrift store and thought it would be good for the challenge - and while I was thinking about it, someone purchased it! Ugh and after seeing what you did - I'm disappointed because they came out great. Did you ever consider taking the furniture to the car wash and pressure washing?

    • @AskingSpot
      @AskingSpot  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is a brilliant idea! I’m not completely done with the loveseat so I will be googling where the nearest self serve car wash is, thanks!

    I’m curious. Why didn’t you use sand in the sandblaster? I thought that’s what you’re supposed to use in the sandblaster.

      @AskingSpot  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheShizNat weirdly in the instructions it says do NOT use sand. As we have sand in our backyard that would have been handy. Not sure why they didn’t want sand used.
