Thank you for making this documentary Will. I have only just discovered it but have been waiting most of my life for someone to do this. (I wish I'd known in advance as I might have been able to help with your research!)
Needles to say, I am a huge fan of Bonar Colleano. He was so insanely talented but is now largely forgotten. That might be because none of his television and copious radio work survives - please correct me if I am wrong!
You have a wonderfully natural style and will, I have no doubt, go far in your chosen profession. (I shall look out for your name.)
    Thank you again.
    Kay

      Thanks Kay, glad you enjoyed!
Colleano only did a small amount of television work, and his radio work is quite difficult to find online so he's only seen in classic films nowadays. But whilst doing some research, we also found some music he recorded for Stars in Your Eyes (1956) (Which features at 3:16) and is still available on the Internet Archive.
My Grandad had an accident at the same junction in 1971 and was told by one of the Policemen about Bonar Colleano's crash - which is how I found out about him.

Thank you for sharing and filling in some gaps about Bonar’s life and untimely death. I often wondered which part of the road he crashed. We will be filming a short around there later this month so will pay my respects.

His son, drummer for the brilliant early Average White Band, also had a life cut short by tragedy, dying in 1974 after mistaking heroin for cocaine at an LA party celebrating their success in the US.

I realised This guy seem to be in a lot of old films ,he reminds of my middle son. Yesterday I thought I look up his name which brought up his story. I read his wife died 20 years later after drinking because she couldn't cope with her loss. I keep crying ,I know I didn't know him . He son markseems to have had a good acting career and Is now a yoga instructor. I am surprised at someone so young doing this documentary. Thank you . I am making a point of watching every one of his films.

Excellent Video-Summary, Tied up a lot of lose ends and put a lot of myths, non factual information in "The Bin"..! Thank You So Much. Wonder if Mr Colleano was Transported back to London from Birkenhead Woodside Railway Station on a Five Trains a Day Express Service to Paddington..? Thanks Again, Best Wishes 👍

Thank you for doing so much research. Going to the sights, looking for the documents. You did an amazing job. It really is such a shame. Dieing on the way to see his family. And thank you for leaving him flowers.

Thanks so much for posting this; a very well researched piece about a sadly neglected figure in British film history. I'm currently trying to develop an audio doc/podcast about Colleano, Susan Shaw, their friend Paul Carpenter (buried just a few feet from Colleano in Chiswick New Cemetery) and the 'fast set' they mixed with - would love to know more about how you came by some of your info.

he was a great actor, very natural before the cameras - one error in your report: he is definitely NOT forgotten!

I only found out this very day that whilst reading a bio on Michael Balfour that he was in the passenger seat in the accident. I've been looking at the history of Michael Balfour as he was born in the town that I live in...

rip Colleano. Good video, I appreciate the casual narration that follows his life. The music and editing made the experience seamless and I really like the music choices. This reminds me of Clever Dick Films way of video production. If I had to pick a flaw I’d say I would like more detail covering his journey into film, what made him stand out, what attributes led to his success. Overall bravo.

I lived in Chiswick until I was nearly six years old. One of the neighbourhood kids I played with was Bonar Colleano's stepdaughter Anna Lieven. She was a year or two older than me. I remember her teaching me to ride her two wheeled bike, I having only ridden a tricycle until then. Bonar Colleano was notorious for driving his sports car around our quiet residential streets at maniac speeds. I remember my mother warning me 'Stay on the pavement, don't go into the road in case Bonar Colleano comes along in his sports car'. We moved away from Chiswick in the winter of 1957/58. Less than a year after we moved, we heard on the radio that Bonar Colleano had crashed his car and been killed. Susan Shaw had to leave her nice home in Chiswick and move with her two children to a flat in a seedy part of Soho. She turned to drink and died penniless from cirrhosis of the liver at the age of 49. I never saw Anna again, but I see online that her son Toby Flood is a professional rugby player.

Very interesting. Looking forward to Part 2! What happened to Bonnar’s family? Why was he buried in Chiswick? Did his wife remarry?

    • @Willogs
      @Willogs  ปีที่แล้ว +3

Thanks for your comment - There won't be a part 2 as the documentary's main focus was to highlight Bonar Colleano's often-forgotten film career.
Bonar was buried in Chiswick Cemetery, London as this was where he lived. His house was just around the corner from the cemetery. Susan Shaw died in 1978 but their son, Mark, went on to have a successful acting career in his own right.
