For me personally, I would go with Herod no question ask. I do think layton is a better go for the majority but I know my personal preference which is tobacco and Herod just hits the spot. Especially with the older formulation that I only manage to get a decant of. The performance is a beast. The newer bottle still have decent 10h and above average projection but the smell to me is just breathtaking.
I bought samples for both and honestly, at first, I hated both, like they smelled too different from the “norm” but after wearing each for the whole day, and smelling myself and the projection, i like BOTH now, it’s crazy
I like both, I personally prefer Herod out of the 2. I actually enjoy layering both, starting with the Layton and then finishing with the Herod. Works well whilst smoking a cigar, especially at the lounge I have gotten quite a few compliments but I enjoy it which is the point.

Few more that may be a tossup for top 5/top 10 to me are: Jovoy Incident Diplomatique, Kilian Straight to Heaven, Boadicea Hyde Park, Xerjoff Golden Green (or Golden Dallah), Fort & Manle Amber Absolutely, Royal Crown Tzar, Issey Miyake Noir Ambre.

Layton is more than just a spiced apple pie. A lot of people overlook how well the aromatic nuances balance the sweetness. It does an amazing job modernizing the dry, green, masculine aromatic fougeres of yesteryears like PRpH, CK Eternity, Chanel Platinum Egoiste. 4/5

The problem with this tournament is a lot fo people will just vote for the fragrance they have smelt and or own so you are going to get inaccurate statistics so the video is entertaining, that is all.
Parfums de Marly has REFORMULATED Herod. I own an older formulation which has an alcohol concentration of 78%. The new formulation I see in stores has 81% alcohol. My formulation is a dark orange / amber color. The new formulation is a very light, faint orange in color. The new formulation does not last as long and it smells different. Parfums de Marly fragrances are ALWAYS getting reformulated and become much weaker than their ORIGINAL releases. Parfums de Marly HAS NOT been transparent when it comes to the reformulation of their fragrances. Carlisle, Layton & Oajan have also been reformulated and have 3%-4% more alcohol in newer batches.
well, things are changed now, PDM juices are watered down very much, even the retail boxes say so. post 2021, alcohol vol. % went up from 78% to 82% =(

Both Layton and Herod are amazing though. I use Layton as my more casual and Herod as my date or more formal.

The Herod is smells cheap and ain't last at all. Most of my cheaper parfumes last 3 times longer. For 200 a bottle it's very disappointing
