You did your best for all of us Americans, and I thank you. Major Winters bravery was only exceeded by his humbleness and humility. You can't teach that. My deepest respect for that man and everything he stood for. He is certainly one of the greatest of the greatest generation.
Crazy to think that Major Winters tour in Europe lasted between ages 23 and 27. So young himself leading even younger men into battle. Thank you Major, RIP.
Have followed the Dick Winters story for some years now. He is a big reason they were called the greatest generation. My dad served in the Navy 1941 to 1945. Joined day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was always my hero when I was growing up. These men were truly awesome. Watching Dick Winters in BoB He would have been one of my heroes also.
God bless these men I have thought about my father all day today he went in on Omaha beach on day one it funny to think I know exactly where he was 80 years ago I was 16 when he died I knew he was a great man then after finding out more about his service I know how special he truly is God bless America let us never forget
I paid my respects to MAJ Winters at the cemetery on June 10th, and also visited the leadership statue. To meet him in person would have been the utmost honor.
Rest in peace Major Dick Winters. 🏵️🌺🥀 Having watched the "Band of Brothers" and listened to your interview thereafter, I saw leadership from a completely different perspective. That changed my perception of military leadership. Much respect from Africa. 🫡
Wine inspiring story and on it goes never forget what day is the 80th anniversary of D-Day so many great and inspiring people in Normandy TV coverage for once was doing a brilliant job god bless them all
Stopped in Ephrata and stayed in a beautiful B and B called Smithton Inn. The following morning, we paid our respects to Mr. Dick Winters at his gravesite. What a great leader of men!
At the 7:21 mark, dead center of your screen, that very tall marker is a distant ancestor of Maj. Dick Winters. I discovered this AFTER I had completed a video in that cemetery last summer. Beautiful place. Thank you for the tour!
I read Band of Brothers before watching the series and both were EXCELLENT! I think they broke the mold when they made Major Winters, just amazing character & Integrity the man had. My father in law was from Pennsylvania not far from Ephrata and joined the Navy on 12/8/41 he was 16. By early 1942 he was a torpedo man in the destroyer escort fleet doing convoy duty in the North Atlantic. He made 37 trips through the canal seeing Naval combat in both the Atlantic & Pacific theaters. We miss you Brownie! People such as these are what put the GREATEST, in that GREATEST GENERATION. Thanks to all now serving, those who have, and those who will in the future. FLY NAVY!!!
Thank you for this video. If you ever have the chance, come and visit Toccoa, Georgia...home of Easy Company and Currahee Mountain...3 up-3 down! We have a wonderful military museum.
United States needs to understand how great this man was for the country and for all of us definitely one of the best of the greatest Generation ever thank God we had him
Nice vid, best one about this grave site. Didn’t know he trained troops in Ft Dix where I took BCT back in 1973. Then served 3/2 ACR as a tanker Will make sure to check out your music vids as they look very cool too. I wonder if the sculptor Spiers , was related to capt spiers from Easy Co?
Had the opportunity to have dinner with Dick Winter in Annville. Great chance to meet and have dinner with him. And Ephrata is pronounced “Frata”. The “EPH” is an “F” sound.
I was there in 2015. I found his marker, came to attention and saluted him, left him a piece of petrified wood from Arizona (where I live). Ephrata is pronounced as f-rata.
RIP MAJ Winters 😢💔 vaya con Dios y en paz descansen. I like what you said about leaders act like leaders before they become leaders because it is true. This is a beautiful and moving tribute to him which you accomplished with the right amount of respect and decorum he would have appreciated, kudos to you, sir. Essayons, Sappers lead the way!
"Do your best' used to be an American Mantra. These days, it has changed to "Do as little as you can get away with," and let someone else worry about the difference. Leadership is lacking because trust has been eroded mostly by greed. Leadership is putting everyone else ahead of yourself, and you knowing that the people you put ahead of yourself will have your back. So everyone is secure. These days, there is only one pronoun that matters. "Me." Leadership has only one pronoun too. Dick Winter's pronoun is "Us."The difference has changed the world. It can do so again, if "we" have the courage to change it as Dick Winters showed us by example.
I was really shocked to see such a small head stone but what a great humble man he was who fought for his Countries freedom but for all of us in Europe we owe so much to all Americans who fought and died to keep Europe free from the Germans thank you to all of them for so much sacrifice.
I believe it's a Jewish tradition to leave a rock, stone on a grave, on a military grave, a coin is traditional, and the denomination is based on the acquaintance. Penny, if you didn't personally know the individual. I have come upon single graves forgotten hiking in the woods, or just redevelopment. One was in a State park that was once a large farm. A lone tombstone still there in the Thistle. I always leave a pebble on them.
He's certainly a man deserving of immense respect but my mind goes right to the people just as good as him who didnt get a movie or TV show about them. What their graves look like. If they have flags and coins.
Thanks for this. I live nearby and thought he was buried there in the Bergstrasse Lutheran Cemetery. By the way, it's pronounced Ef' ru (like "ru" in rug) ta (like touch). (The accent is on the first syllable).
At his request, his death was not made public until after he had been buried, so as to spare his wife and family the crush of media. Think of the respect he had in that community, that not a peep got out. You know everyone knew, police, doctor, lawyers, newspaper editors… not a peep.
You didn't watch the video, did you? I haven't made any money from this video and everything I said is verified and respectful. Except for what I said about Ethel and Dick in heaven. That was speculation. Worst thing I did was mispronounce Ephrata about a dozen times!
Dick Winters buried in beautiful YU FRAY TA, PA. Laughs...if he wanted to make a flick about dick winters...he could at least learn the pronunciation of Ephrata....
Yeah, that's been pointed out a few times. Wish I'd done better research on how to pronounce that. What's funny is, I was SO sure I had it right that I said it multiple times. lol
I think Dick Winters, later in life, got tired of people talking about him too. He knew the sacrifice many people had made during WW2. He was just one soldier but he was a humble man and a great leader.
You did your best for all of us Americans, and I thank you. Major Winters bravery was only exceeded by his humbleness and humility. You can't teach that. My deepest respect for that man and everything he stood for. He is certainly one of the greatest of the greatest generation.
Beautiful story and tribute of a Great Man, Maj. Richard Dick Winters. Thank you for sharing 💕
Thank you for your service Maj Dick Winters RIP 🇺🇲
Thank you Major Winters. God bless you and your family!
Crazy to think that Major Winters tour in Europe lasted between ages 23 and 27. So young himself leading even younger men into battle. Thank you Major, RIP.
He went from a second lieutenant to major in less than a year.

Roger that!
What a bloke. Got hero written all over him.
I paid my respects to MAJ Winters at the cemetery on June 10th, and also visited the leadership statue. To meet him in person would have been the utmost honor.
Thank You for the video, as a veteran I appreciate it.
Very good video. Thank you. Very informative and respectful.
I was delighted to stumble on his statue by pure chance a few years ago whilst touring Normandy. Great respect to the man .
One day I'll get over there. One day. So cool you were able to do that!
What a great tribute for a great warrior and even better man.🎉🎉😊😊❤❤
Wanted him to live forever, but then again i'm sure he will.
Rest in peace Major Dick Winters. 🏵️🌺🥀

Yep. I saw that monument too, but I also wasn't sure if Isaac Winters was a relative or not. I'll check out your video!
Thnx for your dedication to the men you served. May God bless your soul.
Thank you so much for posting this - very honouring. Appreciate you.
Thank you for your service Mjr Winters and may you rest in peace.
Good video. Thanks for doing it.
Thank you for your service to our country. RIP
Some of todays brass could not shine Maj.Winter's shoes.
If Only America Had 1000s more like Him!!!!!!

Agree. We hear many stories of guys enlisting at such young ages back then. Can't imagine that today.
Thank you Major!!
Men like him ,Are the true meaning of HERO's . Something this crountry has lost though the years.
As a combat leader myself, Maj. Winters solidly examplifies the 3-M concept of leadership....Mission, Men, Me.
He was an amazing guy, apparently. Had a singular focus on doing the best he could to at all times.
Thank you major winters for your service too our country.
I seen the one in France just this last May during a band Brothers tour. It was quite moving the whole experience.
That's awesome. I bet it was a great experience!
Thank you for this video. If you ever have the chance, come and visit Toccoa, Georgia...home of Easy Company and Currahee Mountain...3 up-3 down! We have a wonderful military museum.
I've heard! I do plan on a visit.

Thank you! Not sure of any connections there. The sculptor spells his name "Spears." How cool would that have been though?
I visited Gettysburg this June 2024. I wish I was able to ride up to Ephrata, Pa.
next trip!
RIP Brother
Had the opportunity to have dinner with Dick Winter in Annville. Great chance to meet and have dinner with him.
And Ephrata is pronounced “Frata”. The “EPH” is an “F” sound.
He was a remarkable man in full. As a former Infantry junior officer particularly admire Dick Winters….extrodinary. 6:18
I was there in 2015. I found his marker, came to attention and saluted him, left him a piece of petrified wood from Arizona (where I live). Ephrata is pronounced as f-rata.
All gave some, some gave all.

That's my favorite part of the video. You can tell that "Do your best" really meant something deeply emotional to him.
That M1 Garand looks very short. Couldn’t be a Tanker version. They weren’t around on D Day and I’ve never heard of Winters carrying one, anyway.
I was really shocked to see such a small head stone but what a great humble man he was who fought for his Countries freedom but for all of us in Europe we owe so much to all Americans who fought and died to keep Europe free from the Germans thank you to all of them for so much sacrifice.

I agree and I'm working on it. Stay tuned. There are some great channels already who are doing some of that, including @thehistoryunderground.
Thanks for this. I live nearby and thought he was buried there in the Bergstrasse Lutheran Cemetery. By the way, it's pronounced Ef' ru (like "ru" in rug) ta (like touch). (The accent is on the first syllable).
He IS buried in Bergstrasse Lutheran Church cemetery.
I know the town name is hard to pronounce but you missed pronounced the town of Ephrata
Yes, I've learned something new. I always thought it was eff-RATE-uh, but it's actually, EFF-ruh-ta. Yes?
I just pinged the same!
At his request, his death was not made public until after he had been buried, so as to spare his wife and family the crush of media. Think of the respect he had in that community, that not a peep got out. You know everyone knew, police, doctor, lawyers, newspaper editors… not a peep.
Thanks for this, but the town is pronounced '
"Efreta"...I've visited and don't live too far from it!
It is pronounced: "Eff-rah-tah."
Correct pronunciation is f-rat-a
It’s pronounced F ER TA
Yes, I've been told. lol Never too old to learn!
Your pronunciation of Epherta is WAY OFF. Also, its LanKISSter county, not LangKASTer county
I have been made aware. lol Sorry!
Ef-fru-tu
F-RA-TA ,PA or Ephrata PA
Yeah, I've been told. lol Looking forward to doing another video there so I can pronounce it correctly!
Who are you trying to cash in on TH-cam about hero’s that you know nothing about & should definitely not talk about with your opinions & Guessing!!!
You didn't watch the video, did you? I haven't made any money from this video and everything I said is verified and respectful. Except for what I said about Ethel and Dick in heaven. That was speculation. Worst thing I did was mispronounce Ephrata about a dozen times!

Im tierd of hearing of Dick Winters. Talk about other people, enought is enought.
Suggestions?
I think Dick Winters, later in life, got tired of people talking about him too. He knew the sacrifice many people had made during WW2. He was just one soldier but he was a humble man and a great leader.
Ok what about lieutenant bone spurs? His leadership skills know no bounds. Or truths.or humility. Or honesty. Or ability.

A remarkable man.
