Words like "mainstream" don't really mean what they used to. The term "mainstream media" has become synonymous with the concept of 'media whose narrative aligns with the establishment". Even though, technically, FOX is "mainstream media" given how many viewers FOX gets; as a media company it sits just outside the boundaries of the Neoliberal+Neoconservative special interest establishment (which is ironic considering during the Bush years they were THE establishment media apparatus). FOX news is mainstream media, but singularly stands out from "*the* mainstream media" these days.

Yes, a benovelent, absolute ruler/leader for 20-30 years can be amazing for a society, but the problem is… “who comes next?” And the answer is that 9/10 of the following leaders become absolute despots and ruin their country and their society out of greed, fear, ignorance, and malice. Look at the Roman Empire, and compare Augustus to all the following emperors, and Marcus Aurelius. When you have a good emperor, all is well. But after that, look out, because it becomes literal hell on earth.

Totally agree. When you create a position like that, where power is extremely concentrated, then sure, you _might_ have 30 years of a “good and benevolent” (btw, what defines good and benevolent? Good and benevolent for you because you support them, but what about people with dissenting opinions?) ruler who wants the best for his country, but what about after that? What if someone who is deceptive and power hungry takes the throne? Or someone who you hate but the opposition loves? What happens to your ability to express dissent or protest? Well, take a look at the opposition leaders in Russia and China, or just look at history. The end up dead or imprisoned. It’s too much power in one individual and fundamentally goes against what the founders of America wanted, which was a diffusion of power across all levels to ensure that a balance could be maintained. Love their pods and they have plenty of strong points, but Joe and Lex are mostly out of their league when it comes to geopolitics. That being said, they are two individuals who are actively learning and trying to figure things out like all of us so it’s not to be held against them, but I think we often under-appreciate what we have because it’s assumed that it’s always been like that, when in reality and throughout history, it never has.

I read earlier today that Russians troops freed Auschwitz. Anne Frank's book would not exist if her father had not survived. History is complex, but she was an amazingly talented writer. The Greeks saw each individual as a thread. Humanity is a tapestry that includes us all. Frayed fringes, flaws all come together in the most unimaginable ways. It is that realm that is beyond imagination that presents the idea of beauty. That which is within each of us that is out of reach of anyone is our soul.

    • @maroszukaro9082

When they were done with raping millions of women, or should i say females cause they were anywhere from 1 to 80 years old, murdering hundreds of thousands in the proces... @Jacques De Molay He was the last survivor of those involved with the book. His odds of survival decrease dramatically if the broader operation had not been stopped. I was rereading it recently and this seemed a valid and relevant opinion. I am conflicted by past and current events because I have friends on both sides of these conflicts. People I love and respect; not because they are perfect but because they do not crumble under the weight of hardship. It would be amazing if the mentally and physically strong were likewise morally strong. However, those who benefit from others' strengths may not have any resemblance or association with those who took initial action. That's the trouble with romanticism. It highlights what we admire and overlooks the reality because direct experience always loses something in translation so that I may seem like a foolish little girl because a foolish little girl pretended she was writing to me (Anne Frank's initial frame of mind was to treat her journal as letters to an imaginary friend.) What's sinister about reading it as an adult is the realization that one or more operatives could have posed as that friend during that time to take them all out while toying with them for sadistic pleasure. But, maybe I am just a simple fool in need of some.... *Deliberately deeply drawn breath to sigh for effect* -um, correction... ;-)

Putin is absolutely the best leader for Russia right now at this time in history. The rest is moot. Who cares if it's called democracy or shmemocracy. The majority of Russian people right now are actually scared that anything should happen to Putin. How about that! That speaks volumes in itself. All the worry that was being expressed when he wanted to fly to South Africa or anywhere else. People were like please keep him in the country right now, we need him here. And then when it became clear he's not going, everyone was like.. phew.. I don't even know if this phenomenon has a precedent in history. I think Putin would LOVE nothing more than to be able to retire and play with his grandkids and dogs, but he senses that this is not his fate right now. And that's not coming from him, but from all corners of Russia, its people, its leadership.. Clearly as a result he believes it is God's providence for him right now, and he obeys. And works very hard, as everyone knows.. The sooner the west gets over the insanely stupid caricaturish cartoonish depiction of him in their heads, that has ZERO to do with reality, the sooner they will stop looking like idiots.

...$2500.00?...is that right?....at any rate, it was some incredibly small sum compared to the billions that are thrown around now. I do believe that exceeding that amount was a federal crime, 'influence buying' or some such.
_But_ ....in 2010 the bright dimbulbs in Washington DC passed Citizens United, which opened the gates of hell by making corporations persons and real persons essentially subject to corporations. As an extra incentive for The Up And Coming Sociopaths Of America, unlimited campaign donations were now deemed legal.
So, dig it...they just made what was a major crime ALL GOOD.

I don’t doubt you, but do you have any more info on this? An explosion of corruption would help explain the chaos we’re seeing as responsible governance is replaced by a mosh pit of competing, grasping interests..

After 2010, you only have to watch the exponential runaway acceleration of the corporate takeover of America to know that when governments pass such legislation, it is not because they understand how big corporations are all mushy gooshy feels and just want to help the American Citizen _so much_ that they had to pass citizens United so that they could just _HELP us ALL to have a BETTER LIFE_ without all those dumb Constitutional rights and antitrust laws messing up their _ALTRUISM!_
No, it's because they intend on taking away any control that the people have, as conferred by the Bill of Rights and Constitution, to enforce the idea that politicians work for _We The People_ , and corporations are merely convenient legal entities that exist to make running a business possible. That corporations are persons is such a vile idea....yet the SCOTUS sure went for it...because of course the SCOTUS is as owned as the rest of our government.
It's nauseating, because the assholes did it, and because 90% of the populace has no idea what Citizens United is. SMDH..
The only fix for this is a massive push to return this country to the guiding principles of the Bill Of Rights,, Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution. Under those founding documents, most of the legislation passed, or overturned (Smith Mundt 1948, Roe v Wade, to name two big ones) from 2010 to now would be immediately thrown out due to being, simply, _UNCONSTITUTIONAL_

I think joe and everybody knows it wont happen, the American economy aka also the worlds as being the architect of the world economy is basically a huge ponzi scheme created by the rich to make others think they can get rich which they can but..
The only way a world economy would really work is if it was a resource based economy basically putting a value on Earth's valuable goods like oil, iron, gold, salt, basically all completely raw materials. The economy we have today well, the oil that we pump out of the ground is only worth as much as it costs to drill n pump it out. Ok so the financial sector surely doesnt make/create money itself right. The housing market is probably one of the most confusing to understand why ppl think its a good investment.
A house could be considered a necessity so everyone is going to want one so great investment yet everyone is buying, renting, building, ur asking for huge ups n downs n a dangerous market, you want a necessities stable n strong like for example the agricultural sector supported n proped up by the ag act of 1933 big part of the new deal that was going to get us out n prevent a 1930s great depression so im kind of mind blown because when u yell houses is a great investment u artificially inflate the market n theb because it is such a huge market banks n lawmakers will try to do anything to kick it down the road, 08 crash would and should have been a housing bubble back in 03 but they wouldn't allow it to pop.

We must realize that name calling does not fly on the international stage. Once, when Hugo Chavaz called George W. a SOB, Putin called Chavaz and gave him hell for talking so disrespectfully. You have to be humble and forget sometimes the man you have become with power, fame and wealth. The "power corrupts" issue is addressed on one hand by limiting the power of a particular position. The problem is that people, for good or bad intent, seek to expand that power. Time is the factor that allows people to entrench their power as over time they find ways to get around or subvert their limits. Presidential power is well limited by two terms, but the political party is the mechanism in which entrenched power can endure. Currently this enduring power emanates from Congress. Term limits on the House and Senate would not only fill the trenches of Congress but also would curtail the power of the lobbyists who have very long-term relationships with various representatives and institutions. I would also suggest term limits on many bureaucratic positions.

    • @LetsGoGetThem
      @LetsGoGetThem 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Term limits are introduced to curtail people's power, and then they sell them as the opposite. Term limits are a limit to democracy, not an expansion of it. That is why it was introduced in the wake of FDRs real democratic supremacy which he got from his successful welfare programs which the wealthy of his party and the opposition did not like. His extended term was only enabled by his rule that benefitted the masses, the few rich people didnt like this very much. This is not a coincidence.

Options and this wouldn’t be a reoccurring problem

If a strong leader is in power for too long, people will follow the direction of the leader, less so the law. Corruption abounds. Country will suffer.
If the leader can be changed easily, people will follow the laws first, but the leader.
    Helps keep corruption in check

If Putin drops a nuke NATO will have no choice but to respond. I mean what's the alternative? A dictator uses a nuke and there is no equal response from NATO, what kind of message does that send to countries like NK, China, India, Iran Israel and Pakistan? All countries who are neighboring long standing enemies..
I don't want nuclear weapons anymore than the next person, but the thought of Putin being able to use them and there being no response is even more terrifying to me.
