The ones at our school used CD caddies instead of a slide out tray. It seemed so futuristic. LOL! Personally, I always used Windows computers, but coveted Apple’s hardware and software, especially when the iMac G3’s came out. Pre OS X systems were so fun to me compared to Windows (For Workgroups!) 3.11. I got some of the “Apple-ish” satisfaction once Windows 95 came out. Fast forward a few years and the first time I saw my friend with a 12 inch PowerBook G4, I decided the time had come to make the switch. I went to CompUSA and bought an iMac G5 and have been an fanboy ever since! I have a closet that serves as an Apple graveyard for all my retired products, save for the few machines I’ve given to friends/family.

@@gillespieffet8677 Water is the least of adversaries, due to the absence of sugar and what not. Obviously if there's no power hooked up (assuming and/or if all caps have been discharged prior to cleaning - say a board, motherboard, sound card etc.) Heck, there was even an episode where The 8-Bit Guy cleaned a board in his dishwasher, turned out better than ever.
Great piece of nostalgia here. I love the aluminum keyboard (typing on it at the moment), but thankfully I never experienced any catastrophic events with it. But, I agree, it is too expensive to replace on a whim. Hopefully Apple will come out with a TouchBar standalone keyboard before mine bites the dust :P . I would love to hear your opinions on Apple mice, especially with the new Magic Mouse 2, and even the Magic Trackpads in the mix! Thank you again for your enjoyable content!!!
I don't get how people can complain about not having enough travel on the keys, then say they like those modern Apple aluminum keyboards. They are CRAP. They are a testament to Apple's obsession with form over function and making everything thin for no reason. Give me a nice bog standard IBM-style keyboard any day.
+Jeremy Morton Exactly!!! I don't understand how can people use them! It just seems though as if consumers have reached to a point where if you give them utter shit but stick an apple logo to it they'd just celebrate it endlessly!
I agree. I still buy mechanical keyboards with clicky switches and full form factors. I'm currently on a WASD brand CODE keyboard right now, and I know some people with IBM Model M keyboards that just have a bunch of adapters on them for USB compatibility.
2023 and I still use my 2007 aluminium keyboard (that came with my2007 iMac) with my M1 MacBook Pro. Works great still (though I did break another of these keyboards at my workplace, by spilling tea on it 😕). Agree about the old original iMac USB ones. Absolutely beautiful things. The white clear ones that came along later were terrible, not just for yellowing, but for accumulating dirt inside. They looked like a health hazard after year or two of use 😅
I grew up on the Team Windows side, but in my elementary school they did have the 1998 Imac computers. I remember accidentally turning off the computer with the keyboard.
I can't describe how much I love and appreciate this 2-part series of videos! I am a keyboard junkie and need more keyboard videos - which mac / IBM keyboard / old laptop / distraction-free device is best for writers in 2020? - Apple SE? Apple II? IBM Model M, Membrane Style keyboard (which I actually use an older 90s IBM membrane style keyboard from an IBM Aptiva at work and love it!!
We had four of those first usb keyboard computers to trade off use in our computer class in middle school. It was my favorite one to use as far as mac goes.
The iBookGuy i concur i enjoyed this video being that i was born late 90's seeing this stuff just makes me wanna travel back and use this to get the true feeling of what they evolved to, and i rather prefer the older macs and things for there originality and choice of personal color and appearance. i have an old neighbor around 40 really awesome old underground hacker/tech guy back when hacking was something to be proud of, hes got some of the old mac hardware and these were beautiful machines which i would of loved to own. sadly there rendered obsolete to today's standards there still works of art that generally performed great for there time.
Two more that are newer than these keyboards.'I have the one you are talking about, with a cylinder for batteries in the back. The newest one, however, has a solid, thinner base with a chargeable battery.
It's the wireless keyboard. I use one in my dining room connected (thru BlueTooth) to a Mac Mini. I united this keyboard with a trackpad in single piece using a Magic Wand stick.
The old apple keycaps font is so neat and appealing. Just found out a lot of modern mechanical keycaps copy this typeface like the KBDfans and some Magicforce keycaps
Actually, I disagree on your last point on the Aluminium keyboard. I would go as far to say that it is far more versatile in my opinion compared to prior versions. A lot of stuff has got under the keys on and drinks have been spilled on mine, yet it functions just as it did when I got it several years ago. I even clean it just through washing it in the sink, directly under water-- no problems. On the other hand, I've broken two of the older plastic style keyboards through water damage. Maybe you were just unlucky with yours, or I was lucky!
7:10 my grandma got one from like 2010 she spilled coffee on it one day whole thing was ruined she got a cheap knock off that feels terrible when you type on it irritates me so much!!!!!
+piuser8 I'm using the 2003 Apple Keyboard (similar to the Pro, but slightly newer). I love the key feel as well as the increased F-key count. I also have the compact wireless keyboard that came with my iMac, but I can't stand typing on it, or any other keyboard without full key travel, so I use it as a remote for media playback, and occasional quick comments or searches from my bed.
I am happy to say that I have finally got myself a bondi blue M2452 keyboard... it's actually pretty good, and is compatible with my windows 10 machine
I'd say to do a continuation of this since they keyboard and mouse has evolved slightly. the last aluminum keyboard you featured (the tiny one) is called the magic keyboard since it's bluetooth and automatically pairs when switched on. it also charges and can be used as a wired keyboard while it's charging. annoyingly though (to me), it's too small and light & very hard to type on...just like a laptop keyboard (which I've never been a fan of). the current magic mouse has no visible buttons or scroll whell. in place of the scroll wheel, you swipe up and down...you can also swipe side to side to move between applications which is pretty cool. it's also bluetooth and rechargeable BUT with where you plug in the lightning cable, it's impossible to use while charging. the cool thing about both the magic keyboard and magic mouse is that you can use any standard lightning cable connected to a USB power brick to charge them instead of using ports on your iMac or Mac Mini. Also, if you're able to, you should do an evolution of Apple computers from the start up to 2021. I've personally owned an Apple IIc (with the included green screen monitor) and have used mac clones and Power Macs throughout the years. My current job supplied me with a 2019 iMac which has come a LONG way from when those were introduced in 1998. Interesting sidenote, I actually worked at the tech convention in 1998 where Apple unveiled the iMac at Moscone Center in San Francisco. I was impressed but, at the time, didn't like the all-in-one bit since I could imagine they were a nightmare to repair/upgrade. However, using the current iMac, I've definitely changed my opinion since they're definitely very easy to upgrade things like the internal SSD and RAM. As far as Apple laptops, Apple has always been ahead of the curve with making something high performance yet VERY portable. I mean, how cool is it that you can have a powerful machine to do audio/video production that doesn't take up much real estate on your desk? Anyhow, I've loved watching your videos over the years and like seeing older machines that I used growing up as well. My first computer was the TI99/4A with the voice modulator and cassette storage as add-ons in 1983...I was all of 8 and I'm sure it cost a small fortune back then. Lastly, getting back to the Apple keyboard saga...wasn't there an Apple keyboard that had the usual Apple key (outline of the Apple logo) and a solid Apple key? I could swear I've seen that before.
If you make the mouse history vid I will watch it. However, it's not necessary. We all know Apple mice [mouses?] are abominations to ergonomics that should be in a museum.
Agreed so many one button mice, when even the early iMacs with a USB port could use a normal PC mouse that had more buttons, and the OS made use of them all LOL!
It's worth mentioning the actual font they used since the iBook G3 and PowerBooks/MacBooks until 2015 and on the A1243/A1242 - it's VAG Rounded and was originally developed for Volkswagen in the 1970s. Since 2015 they're using their own font "San Francisco".
i loved that imac keyboard. my school had them, but only in the front row. so not everyone was able to use them, but once i was able to. those keyboards felt good as hell lol
Some of the 1243's had really short cables btw. Mine is so short I need an extension cable to use it in my mac pro tower under my desk or have to plug into a hub or monitor.
Apple mice...don't EVEN get me started... No thanks to one button only crap...I'll stick with left and right buttons, thanks much. Yeah, going between Windows and Mac...it was too much for me to have to re-learn to hold Ctrl and click the one mouse button for a context menu. As far as the keyboards go, the aluminum cookie cutter crap keyboards never type correctly for me and take an awful lot of pressure to press down any of the keys... I'd stick with the keyboards that emulate the PC keyboard design.
I don't see anything that makes Apple new keyboards "convenient". Literally there are plenty of good keyboards out there which are more convenient, has wireless connection, better key feel, better durability, some even have colorful backlighting that allows full customization.
the A1048 is my fav :) I had a whole cup of coffee spilled into my current one... it stopped working for a couple of months then I tried it out to se how many keys would work and they all do.. working perfectly again!!
The first one looks so artistically beautiful. I wish there's a modern keyboard that looks like that. Sadly, most are just all black and with RGB light at best.

+Jeremy Morton agreed, hell- i'd say that moving away from mechanical keyboards was a mistake, honestly. rubber dome keys just don't type as well.
rubber dome is the best type of keyboard. The NEW mac ones are stupid, but the thin, low-travel rubber domes are the best
abab AAbb nah man, i'm in love with the mechanical keyboard. i think it feels way better to type on, personally.
The fake keyboard has a windows logo....
BudderPuffle // Echo Gaming no shit laddie
Yes me too
Windows logo, Microsoft's logo is the word Microsoft the windows logo is a window its been that way since windows first came out

"How do you type?"
Like any other keyboard ever. You use your fingers to make letters and words until your thought is complete.
I truly want a mouse video!!! MAKE IT HAPPEN :D
Man o yeah. I have a pro mouse for display in my room.
Apple product checkup:
- extremely expensive
- breaks extremely easy
- unrepairable 😂😂
I can't describe how much I love and appreciate this 2-part series of videos! I am a keyboard junkie and need more keyboard videos - which mac / IBM keyboard / old laptop / distraction-free device is best for writers in 2020? - Apple SE? Apple II? IBM Model M, Membrane Style keyboard (which I actually use an older 90s IBM membrane style keyboard from an IBM Aptiva at work and love it!!

Giant nostalgia for the third version, was my family computers keyboard for the first 10 years of my life
We had four of those first usb keyboard computers to trade off use in our computer class in middle school. It was my favorite one to use as far as mac goes.
just went from elementary memories to high school in 2 videos.
Are we going to end the keyboard videos soon? I'm getting quite bored with the keyboard videos.
eastmountainfilms - Yep, that was the last one for a while.. already working on some new stuff.
Actually I rather enjoyed these.
***** The videos were great, but I do agree with ***** they were getting a little boring after some time. Great job though.
Q
The iBookGuy i concur i enjoyed this video being that i was born late 90's seeing this stuff just makes me wanna travel back and use this to get the true feeling of what they evolved to, and i rather prefer the older macs and things for there originality and choice of personal color and appearance. i have an old neighbor around 40 really awesome old underground hacker/tech guy back when hacking was something to be proud of, hes got some of the old mac hardware and these were beautiful machines which i would of loved to own. sadly there rendered obsolete to today's standards there still works of art that generally performed great for there time.
Wasn't there one more that had like a cylinder in the back.
Mr I hate everything is back...and EVEN BETTER!
The old apple keycaps font is so neat and appealing. Just found out a lot of modern mechanical keycaps copy this typeface like the KBDfans and some Magicforce keycaps
3:36 I grew up on that keyboard
If it's mechanical, then you're a good man. I growing up with older mechanical keyboards even though I was born in 2007, it was an old computer
that would be really uncomfortable, maybe don't grow up on a keyboard?
@@highoctanegames mechanical all the way bro

Stop getting triggered, ginger.
*skyartlerist* *D* your getting triggered cuz you don’t even know what the word trigger mean
Ahhhh, the 2007 keyboard was used in my science classes on the 2008 Macs we had, along with the white version of the black mouse in the video.
Hi David loving your part 1 and 2. I have few apple keyboard from eBay. 😊
is this back-lit? lol

7:10 my grandma got one from like 2010 she spilled coffee on it one day whole thing was ruined she got a cheap knock off that feels terrible when you type on it irritates me so much!!!!!
Im using the Apple Pro Keyboard!
+piuser8 me too xD
+piuser8 I'm using the 2003 Apple Keyboard (similar to the Pro, but slightly newer). I love the key feel as well as the increased F-key count.
I also have the compact wireless keyboard that came with my iMac, but I can't stand typing on it, or any other keyboard without full key travel, so I use it as a remote for media playback, and occasional quick comments or searches from my bed.
I'm using the 2000 apple keyboard :)
+piuser8 We need more people like u
are you using it on a mac or a pc
I'm on an iPad peasants
"Is this backlit?" .. I fell off my chair..lmfao..
And the so called biggest failure of Apple, the butterfly keyboard
It's worth mentioning the actual font they used since the iBook G3 and PowerBooks/MacBooks until 2015 and on the A1243/A1242 - it's VAG Rounded and was originally developed for Volkswagen in the 1970s.
Since 2015 they're using their own font "San Francisco".
i loved that imac keyboard. my school had them, but only in the front row. so not everyone was able to use them, but once i was able to. those keyboards felt good as hell lol
1:11 *wait, what is that??*
3:43 he said " there are some KEY differences" anybody get it???
"It looks very similar to the last, but there are some key differences"
Some of the 1243's had really short cables btw. Mine is so short I need an extension cable to use it in my mac pro tower under my desk or have to plug into a hub or monitor.
To be honest, I like the A1048 keyboard. The keys feel nice to type on and I like how the keys are layed out.

What is it with Apple and mice. Apple has had some of the best trackpads but absolute worst mice ever
Mouses.
They have had one button ever since the beginning, it’s bullshit.

Sad about no mention of the Apple Extended Keyboard lines, especially the Extended II. Still have one and use it daily.
I use the A1243 just about everyday at work. Still one of my favorites.
Strange... my wife spilled coffee on her aluminum-keyboard months ago, and it still works.... luck?

Where is the mouse history?
New apple keyboards are bad i prefer the older ones

I prefer the new ones, in my opinion, they’re more convenient and modern and easier to use. Just what I think.
