Man, really interesting to see an overall solid player hitting partial wedge shots with a strong PW. I think especially with partial shots thats where a specialty wedge really comes into its own on generating spin even with wet grass. Amazing to see him essentially stuff his first couple shots after switching to the SW. It's so interesting that a major problem in ones game can simply come down to mostly a mental block on club choice
These guys single handedly helped me CONSISTENTLY break 100 (yeah it was that bad) and almost get to breaking 90 this past year. and that was after shoulder surgery and only getting to play 4 times in 2021. I am so looking forward to implementing more lessons this year. Wish i had found these guys 5 years back.
Thank you guys some much! I've been using my 60 degree on the greens. Now I know I should use a putter instead. Lol! I usually get something useful from your videos. Thanks for the effort!
I have the Titleist T200s. The set came with a 43 PW and a 48 GW. I added a 52, 56 and 60 Vokey wedges. I try to keep my distances at full swing yardages because the in between yardage is a weak point for my game. Thanks for all the great content.
Great video!, I have a MP18SC pitching wedge then 50, 54, & 58 SM8 wedges. Short game is all about finding a technique that’s repeatable then practice practice practice to control your distances. I used to dread anything less than a full swing distance with a wedge. Now I’m confident that I’m at least going to give myself a chance to get it up and down anywhere inside 130 yds.
As always a great video, professional and informative.... My wedges, in reverse order, LW 60° SW 56° PW 52° in my mind 3 is enough, if I can't produce a full range of shots with 3 wedges there would be something wrong. 😉 Keep up the great work guys.
My pw is 48°. I recently added a 52° to fill the gap between the 56° and then the 60°. I was unhappy with the grinds on the wedges particularly when I open the face. Having a shop full of tools, I was at ease with grinding away the heel so that the leading edge stayed the same height regardless of the amount of openness. It certainly makes my short game a joy.
I use a 43 degree PW and I recently switched to 50, 54, 58 degree wedge combo. I previously used 52, 56, 60 but I’m happier with this new combo. Great video as always guys! Thanks!
Currently have a 54 degree SW and a 52 degree PW. Lots of trouble with my approaches. Just ordered a 58 degree wedge but now wondering if I might have made a mistake. Advice? Love your channel and learning lots from you fella’s, thanks
I've got a PW (45 degrees), GW (52 degrees), and SW (58 degrees). I feel pretty good about those three. The newest one is my GW. I'm still learning how to hit that and my distance.
I carry a PW (44 and my FAVORITE club), 50, 54, 58. When I was new to golf, I saw all the pros carrying 52, 56, 60 so I went ahead and got them, only to leave myself too much of a gap between PW and GW - had to close it with the lofts!
Thanks fellas, I probably only brush the grass rather than feel the bounce contacting the ground. Definitely something for me to work on. I have a 46 degree pitching wedge and then TaylorMade 52, 56 and 60 lob wedge. If I do my part this generally works for me. I would not have believed how different or better one brand of wedge over another could be until I hit my mates Vokeys and now I’m ruined forever! Great content as usual - keep them coming. 👍🏻🇦🇺
Taylormade M2 PW (46*) and 50, 54, 58 taylormade mg3. Loving them so far. Seeing great spin on off speed chips and pitches. Much improved over the Cleveland cbx2 50, rtx 4 54, 58. Loved the cbx2 for full shots and how it blended from cavity back m2 irons to blade wedges.
46 degree Mizuno blade PW as part of my iron set (125 yards), 49 degree Titleist Tour Model PW from my old set (110 yards), then 56 Vokey SM6 with minimal bounce (100 yards) and 60 degree SM7 with lots of bounce ( 80 yards). 46 and 49 for full swings. I mostly pitch with the 56 and use the 60 from sand and when I'm short sided and don't have a brutally tight lie. Gapping isn't perfect but I make it work.
Got an AW which goes 130-140 summer time, around 120 winter time, got a PW which goes 150-160 summer time, around 130-140 winter time, got a 56d which goes 100-110 summer time, around 80-90 winter time, got a 58d which goes 80-90 summer time, around 65-75 winter time,I play off 6hcp,short game has improved massively this last year, never realised how important it is to lowering your score 👍
I´ve got a P 46 degrees then SM8 52 and a 58. Don´t miss anything! Love to play with my wrist and hands open up or close if i have to... use my 52 for most shots from 60 to 110meters 58 from 50 to 0m... My pitch for 110-120meters. i9 around greens most of the time if i have some green to work with. hcp 10,2
I have to be honest from all off the People I watch and follow on youtube, I would love to see how you could take my game from being at my lowest handicap off 11 now 13 due to losing my way with swing a bit and see how I could improve as life time dream would be single figures and consider myself to be a low to scratch player many thanks lee Ps keep pushing the content you 2 are amazing at what you do.
i use a 45' pw... 50' gw...and 60' lw i know my distance on full swings and mid swings i have trouble choosing what club to use 10-15 yards around greens. nice video like the live coaching.
My wedge setup is 60, 56, 52 and 48. My main wedge is the 56 but depending on situation I could use all of them. The 48 covered the 130ish range and now I can swing my PW which is 43 degrees (strong) a bit more freely.
I got a friend that hits his clubs like this guy. Basically rolls them into the green. I told him once you start learning how to hold a green, Golf becomes addictive. When you learn how to make the ball spin back 1-6 feet, it becomes an obsession 😂 sometimes I’m able to hold a green all the way down to a 6 iron. Depending on how receptive the greens are. I don’t generate a ton of spin but I am working on it
PW 47, GW, 52, SW, 56, LW 64 I never played LW before and rescued the 64 out of my parents attic so I mostly us 52/56 for chips and putts. I do plan on buying a 60 degree LW as my next club purchase. I grew up playing just PW and SW so most of my pitches were less than full swing PW so having options lately has been nice.
I used to be so good with this shot. Over the years, have gotten so much more handsy. No yips, just too much hands and not enough body use. Your tips and Crossfield have been INVALUABLE to my progress over the year. Still need more reps, but know I can hit the shot, just need to execute.
@@meandmygolf. You have no idea. I used to have a 9 index, but am now back up to 18. I can play a stretch of holes like a 9 and a stretch like a 22...hence. I love both if your temperament with your students. If I was in the UK, would surely seek you both out. My instructor in LA is a lot like you both, but I have recently moved back to the East Coast. I am getting there, but some rounds, I want to just chuck my clubs, but I love my MP 69s too much...lol...take care and stay safe.
pitching wedge in my set is 46 which is then complemented by 50/54/58 setup in Cleveland RTX wedges, all with mid bounce. I am planning to get fit for new wedges at the start of next season. I need to replace my wedges anyways, so I'm curious to see which grinds and bounces would perhaps favour me (even) better.
Excellent video. As a new player (not a h/c yet). Doing a video explaing different ways about how to approach and play this sort of distance would be good. Eg. from 40, 60 & 80 yards.
I've got Tour Edge HL4 irons. My PW and GW are 44°/49°. And I've got Cleveland Zipcore wedges in 55°/60°. I've taken more strokes off my game by filling the yardage gaps at the low end of the bag instead of worrying about woods and hybrids.
I am a 30 handicap (on good days lol!) and I have the Kirkland brand LW 60°, SW 56° & GW 52° and 50 yards is usually a half swing for me with the GW - but I tend to end up left of the flag.
I actually keep SIX wedges in my bag. My iron set is the Titleist AP1's that have the PW set at 43*, a second wedge at 47* and then a third wedge that is set at 52*. Not sure which of those latter two is supposed to be considered the "GW". First iron set I have owned that had two wedges below the PW without either one being stamped as a AW/GW and a SW. As such I filled in with a couple of other wedges with the lofts of 50*, 56* (which is what I use as the SW) and a 59* that I use as a LW. I had the wedge that was originally 52 degree bent to 53* so that all of the wedges after the PW have three degrees of gapping between them. The yardages normally run PW/43*- 115, UW/47*- 105, AW/50*- 98, GW/53*- 90, SW/56*-82, and the LW/59*-74 yards. Now I realize that if I just spent time practicing with half to 3/4 swings with my wedges and learned the distances of doing so I could probably take out two of those wedges. But change is hard and I always prefer to have the club in my hand that allows me to take full swings. Usually whem I try to cut down on a swing and "finesse" a shot that is usually when I get into the chunks and thins on the shot.
My set of wedges include a 45 degree PW, 50 degree A, 54 degree SW 11 degree bounce and a 56 lob wedge with 9 degrees of bounce. I do pretty well with this set in terms of hitting distances I need. I admit I need work on bunker play, but could you assist me with information related to the other part of the clubs, the bounce? I believe I understand what it is and how it helps, but need help hitting higher shots our of bunkers.
More touch with wedges and like more options at the top. Driver, 4 wood, driving iron, 3 iron at the top to give a 20 yard gap at the top, play to whatever the fattest part of the fairway is. 48 degree pw Ben hogan apex plus, 54 vokey, and 60 pm grind callaway. 125 full pw, 115 choked pw, 105 full 54, 95 choked, 3/4 54 80. 60 is meant for bunkers, deep rough, specialty shots
What does narrowing the stance do? Couldn’t understand if it went farther or shorter. BTW I practice the 50 yd shot quite a bit but i hit it with a slightly open face and behind the ball as if I was hitting a bunker shot.
Titleist SM9 46 PW, 60 LW / Ping Glide 52 GW / Cleveland 56 SW Still a beginner, so on the course I still use the 9i bump and run in situations like this.
Titleist 710 cb 48 pw 52, 56 60, my issue is with full shots, i hit my wedges so high i don't get any distance, when i first got the wedges i just used to swing really hard and i would hit the desired number but over time my consistency has gone down hill, do you guys have a video for full wedge shots? setup, swing, tips etc?
Ah ha...I do the practice swing but I don't follow through with my eyes and head as a real swing. Excellent observation, I'll focus more on this and "feeling the earth". I have a 58 / 54 / 50 / 43.5. I just don't know why people try to hit a 60 deg?
I’ve been golfing for 3 months and I consistently shoot 10 over I have a pitching wedge and a 58* I struggle with long par 3s and 80 and in chips close to the green im okay I just get them on and then 2 or 3 putt but more experienced golfers what club should I add for a better score
Mizuno JPX900 forged PW 45°, Clevland RTX3 50°, 54° RTX Zipcore 58°. Never had a gapping check or anything. But I struggle with the distance between the PW and the GW. So I do wonder how well they blend.
We would actually say the opposite from our experience. Most people who are struggling with this end up over accelerating. We rarely see anyone decelerating.
I have a 44 degree pw, I have a 49 degree aproch wedge as well but just changed to a 48, because I hit my 52 so well but it's just under 100. And a 56, 60. So 48,52,56,60. 110,100/95, 90/85, 75/60 and under.
Telling truth that being a beginner I didn't understand this video But I can say that this video must be great and I enjoyed the background music a lot 😁
Actually, 50 yards is my favourite distance with my 60 degree wedge. I use a 48 pw, 52 gw, 56 sw and 60 lw. Strangely enough however I always brush the ground in my practice swings with my 52 and when I hit the actual shot I often create a small divot even though I try to just let the club brush. Any pointers on that? Could be hand tension?
I have a similar issue with my irons and it comes from trying to hit the ball instead of trying to swing through the ball if that distinction makes sense. When I'm bad with this I just take another "practice swing" but with the ball in the way of it instead of trying to hit the ball.
I’m a new golfer. My pitching wedge is 45 and my gap wedge is 50. Should I get a 54 and a 58 or just a single 56? And what should the bounce be. I have no clue
got a 45 / 50 / 56 / 60 wedge set up. Not completely happy with this gapping. Rarely hit my 60 off fairway max distance, but probably 60yd, then 56 - 70-80yd, 50 = 90-100yd, P = 120-130yd. I bought my 50 to try plug the 100 yd gap, but it's a bit inconsistent and tricky to get it 100yds. But it has forced me to develop a half P wedge swing which going well!
yeah...closer isn't always better when it comes to wedges. I struggle with shots from 30-60 yrds so yeah, if I can't reach a green, I am always going to leave myself at least 70 yrds in.
So weird. I hit all my clubs quite short (unfortunately) so 50 yard is actually a comfort zone for my sanding wedge! Would rather it be the other way around tho :D
You need too understand what is causing it Michael. We actually have a brand new plan on our website that would help. It's called Complete Wedges. Check it out.
@@meandmygolf. preformance anxiety. But in saying that ur programs looks fantastic, look forward to starting them. Just need to invest some time getting back into golf fitness
So my 60 goes a 100 yards so when ever I have a 50 yard shot I just bring it to half the swing I do for my full swing 100 yard shot is that the right way to go about it
I end up long 80% of the time with short wedge shots. The ball literally jumps off the face! I'm consciously taking a short backswing, then using my turn to hit the shot. The squeezed compression feels amazing, but it's costing me close birdie opportunities.
I was told that your wedges should be spaced no more than 4 degrees apart hence I have a 48 pitching wedge, 52 gap wedge, 56 sand wedge and 58 lob wedge
For pitches under 75 yards I switch between my 60 and my 54 (SW) depending on the lie of the ball as the SW has much more bounce. I don‘t break 90 yet, but I‘m working on it. Good luck with your golf and I hope to see you in another video with Piers and Andy.
@@fredr8159 I like my 60 but it only never goes up and not very long so I mainly use it out the bunker. These guys helped me hit the club and gave me some confidence.
I feel lucky to have signed up for lessons at a place that has an indoor launch monitor. I pitch the same with all my wedges and found my pw goes 60 yards, gw goes 50 yards, sw goes 40 yards, and lw goes 30 yards. Same swing, but 10 yards increments.
Man, really interesting to see an overall solid player hitting partial wedge shots with a strong PW. I think especially with partial shots thats where a specialty wedge really comes into its own on generating spin even with wet grass. With a 4° gapping between each of those, there shouldn't be a gap... Maybe it was a swing issue.

BTW I practice the 50 yd shot quite a bit but i hit it with a slightly open face and behind the ball as if I was hitting a bunker shot.
Titleist SM9 46 PW, 60 LW / Ping Glide 52 GW / Cleveland 56 SW
Still a beginner, so on the course I still use the 9i bump and run in situations like this.
Good video. The blue shirts better than the pink.
Thanks Anthony. The pink tops will return!!😂
Mizuno JPX900 forged PW 45°, Clevland RTX3 50°, 54° RTX Zipcore 58°. Never had a gapping check or anything. But I struggle with the distance between the PW and the GW. So I do wonder how well they blend.
My favorite club in the bag is the 64 degree.
My most common fault on these is decelerating. Narrow stance, open club face and lighter grip helps, but for me accelerating through is key. 48-52-56
Snap I find a slow backswing helps
We would actually say the opposite from our experience. Most people who are struggling with this end up over accelerating. We rarely see anyone decelerating.
I have a 44 degree pw, I have a 49 degree aproch wedge as well but just changed to a 48, because I hit my 52 so well but it's just under 100. And a 56, 60. So 48,52,56,60. 110,100/95, 90/85, 75/60 and under.
Those par 3 course are the funnest so I needed better gapping.
Besides a pitching wedge, I also have a a 52° 56° and a 60°
I have JPX900 PW 46 a 52 & 58 is that a decent gap ?
That was awesome!
Glad you enjoyed it Wayne. What wedges do you play with?
@@meandmygolf. I have a Cleveland 58 degree Sole, Ping G400 A and U.
I carry a 50* gap 54* sand and a 58* lob wedge. Works good for me.
Telling truth that being a beginner I didn't understand this video
But I can say that this video must be great and I enjoyed the background music a lot 😁
What didn't you understand? The main thing that was making things hard for Stuart was he was just using too low loft.
Callaway Mavrik PW (41) and AW (46) along with Callaway JAWS 52, 56, and 60 wedges
I have the mmc p wedge and high toe 50 54 and 60
P730 Pw 50° 54° 58° Taylormade Mill grind 2 wedges
I’m a new golfer. My pitching wedge is 45 and my gap wedge is 50. Should I get a 54 and a 58 or just a single 56? And what should the bounce be. I have no clue
Hi John. It's definitely worth looking at that yes if you have space in your bag or you have a long club that you rarely use.
Taylormade hi toe 60 & 54 degrees wedges
Do you have a 50 at all Matthew?
got a 45 / 50 / 56 / 60 wedge set up.
Definitely worth re assessing then David. Getting these gaps right is so important for scoring.
Nicely done Stu, I'm sure you'll be breaking 80 very soon!
Thanks Charlie.
@@MegaUSAFan Have you got close yet Stu??
@@meandmygolf. I haven't played a singles match in a few weeks but since filming this it's taken about 4 shots off my handicap.
@@meandmygolf. Last 3 rounds have been 75, 75 and 78.
yeah...closer isn't always better when it comes to wedges. I struggle with shots from 30-60 yrds so yeah, if I can't reach a green, I am always going to leave myself at least 70 yrds in.
Do guys believe weight on left open stance ball back in stance. To bring it in with a low spinning draw? Is that making it to complicated?
I carry a pitching wedge , 54 and 56
So weird. I hit all my clubs quite short (unfortunately) so 50 yard is actually a comfort zone for my sanding wedge! Would rather it be the other way around tho :D
A 52 and a 60 for me. Might add a 56 when spring rolls around. That, or something between the 9 and the 52.
Hey Guys, what should i do if i duff the practice shot? Or during warming up duffing my shots? My practice is good
You need too understand what is causing it Michael. We actually have a brand new plan on our website that would help. It's called Complete Wedges. Check it out.
@@meandmygolf. preformance anxiety. But in saying that ur programs looks fantastic, look forward to starting them. Just need to invest some time getting back into golf fitness
Is it me or does piers look quite a bit like joe exotic the tiger king?
So my 60 goes a 100 yards so when ever I have a 50 yard shot I just bring it to half the swing I do for my full swing 100 yard shot is that the right way to go about it
I use 4 wedges, my pw is about 42°, my sand wedge is 52°, then I have a 56° and a 60°
I end up long 80% of the time with short wedge shots. The ball literally jumps off the face! I'm consciously taking a short backswing, then using my turn to hit the shot. The squeezed compression feels amazing, but it's costing me close birdie opportunities.
I need a 50 degree, i play 52,56,60 and my pitching is 46 degree, ideally 49-50 would be my next club and ill remove my 4 iron
PW45, GW 50, 54 & 60
I was told that your wedges should be spaced no more than 4 degrees apart hence I have a 48 pitching wedge, 52 gap wedge, 56 sand wedge and 58 lob wedge
PW is 44
48 degree
54 degree
58 degree
I also have a 50 but I like the 48 better so I carry that instead tho as I get better it might change.
Ft Worth: 44 PW, Equalizer 50, 54, 58.
I have a Pitching Wedge at 45 Degree and a 52 and 56 Degree
Kudos to Stu, he breaks 90 without understanding the fundamentals.
Thanks. I know the SW was always the correct option but I was terrified of hitting it. All chunks and duffs before playing with the guys.
@@MegaUSAFan then you're flipping your hands, not "grip leading the clubhead". Will be a solid, medium trajectory and A LOT more spin.
@@Mizman76 Thanks mate.

I got a pitching and sand web in my basic set. What angles would I expect them to be and what else should I consider buying? Eg a lob wedge. Thanks.
They will be around 46 and 54 ash but it's worth looking online for the actual numbers. If they are then I would look at a 50 and maybe a 58.
I'm having trouble with shoots from 100 yds and in? My shot goes straight left what am I doing wrong
I have a 47°pw , 50°, 56°, 60°. I would prefer a 52° because the gap between my PW and 50° is too close
Yeh I think a 52 degree would be good. What brand do you play Ryan?
