    5:50 The joke is an ambiguity in terms of the verb "ziehen", which means something to pull/to draw.
    So it's a What you/I pull at the club.
    You: Draw a line of cokaine.
    I: Pull a door with a huge sticker on it saying "push".
    So the humor is in the comparison where the speaker not only doesn't win, but fails at the lowest possible hurdle to entry, looking like a complete idiot.

    11:41 That meme is from an infamous anti-piracy ad running on German TV when DVDs and CDs were still a thing. It shows a family waving at their dad who‘s incarcerated for watching a movie on an illegal streaming service.

    "You slam two eggs into the pan for breakfast.

    On the club thing: It's "What you pull at the club" (cocaine, because the literal translation for snorting it in German is pulling it up your nose) vs "What I pull at the club" (a door that's clearly labeled as a "push to open")

    7:10 It's one of the worst ads on TH-cam. I routinely SHOUT the dialogue back at the screen because I'm so sick of hearing it.
    And likewise, I don't have a car. I don't even have a fucking licence.
    One of the few ads that I remember being worse was that vaginal fungus ad from 10 or so years ago. Had no idea you could use the term that often in so short a time.
    13:00 "You smash two eggs into the frying pan for breakfast, I smash the two frying pans into my eggs (German for balls) for breakfast. We are not the same."
    14:30 Radio in German usually refers to The Radio, as in what you listen to on the radio. Radio waves would be Radiowellen. So yes, air traffic, militaries, etc require radio waves but that meme was about radio stations.
    15:45 Any German will happily tell you that we are the European exception when it comes to public transport ^^
    The issues we're having are precisely because we did not invest in our trains but kept focussing on cars.

    Rusks are twice baked slices of white bread, they're hard, like crackers. Some people have them for breakfast, with butter and jam, like toasts.
    Doors have either "push" (drücken) or "pull" (ziehen) written on them, verbs that are also used for consuming drugs, to pull (ziehen) means snorting, to push (drücken) means injecting them. The "wear" translation is wrong (to wear something or getting dressed is "anziehen", which can also mean "to attract" like e.g. a magnet, which explains the mistake).
    So the sentence means "what you snort at the club vs. what I snort". But here, the writer probably means that he didn't even get inside the club because he was pulling the door instead of pushing it.
    Northern lights can be visible in Germany this year, too, some have been spotted, but right now it's very cloudy where I am, the sky is all gray. Last week, it rained so much that there were floods, people had to be evacuated, our bridge almost broke (firemen tried to keep it from flooding but it didn't work, it was under water). Now, everything's fine again, but we don't see past our clouds. Depending on where you are in Germany, the weather can be very different, and there are many microclimates.
    They have translated "Mountain Dew" (Gebirgstau). It does sound a little like a recipe one would find in a wizard's notebook, like "toad saliva", "unicorn tears", etc., and I imagine a guy climbing up a mountain early in the morning with a tiny flask to get a bit of mountain dew for his magic potion.

    Reminded me of an auto-translate fail that I've seen recently on Mastodon: There's the Bahncard (train card) and there was an ad for a flexible price option. In German its "Flex-Preis" and it was translated to "angle grinder price". "Flex" is a very common brand of angle grinders and people often just say "Flex" as a kind of generic term for "angle grinder". XD

    Then on the other hand what we call radio can also be called Rundfunk, but that also includes TV broadcasting.

    3:44 The guy in the small picture is the German phycisist and TV host Harald Lesch. In one of his latest videos he explains why it's a bad idea to use nuclear power plants as a kind of "green energy". The mining for ressources isn't green at all, way more harmful to the environment than what we need for water dams and wind turbines and we still don't have a clue what to do with the waste which is dangerous for tousands and millions of years. Also you can't just switch a nuclear power plant on and off like a fossil fuel one. Which is what the politicians arguing for nuclear power plants say. That we need something to supply electricity fast when wind and solar energy don't have enough output - at night or when the wind is low.
    He then says - and that's what the meme is about - that nuclear power plants work just like fossil fuel plants by heating water and the steam powers a turbine. He said "We're using the strongest force in the universe - the one that keeps the atoms together - to heat water. Which is ridiculous."

    5:25 The correct translation is "What you 'pull' in the club vs what I pull in the club".
    The first picture shows lines of cocaine. "eine Line ziehen" (pulling a line) is the German phrase for "taking a line". So the other person is doing coke.
    The other one shows a door that says push. So the author pulls at a door that says push.
    Two very different meanings of "ziehen".

    It‘s not illegal to draw the Svastika for your own "enjoyment" in Germany. As long as it‘s your own book I guess you can draw them there.
    The panic probably doesn't come from the fear that the girl or her brother might have done something illegal, but from the fact that now you have to explain why they are drawing something like that, even though at least one of them seems to know exactly what it means.
    It's perhaps comparable to drawing naked children: For a child, it can still be quite innocent and naive - but not anymore when it becomes clear that the child copied it from the adult brother, who also likes to draw naked children 😁

    • @Finsternis..
      @Finsternis.. 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not sure that latter example is a good analogy for an US American context. While German code of law does not explicitly disallow drawing and possesion of drawings of undressed children so long there was no model or realistic memory involved (though courts are ignoring this more and more) in some countries, most notably the USA, there is no such exception. So drawing a naked child would in fact be illegal there, regardless of the circumstances.

    • @AdamMPick
      @AdamMPick 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Of course it is illegal, or you would see nazies running around with self drawn Swastikas all the time. § 86a is very clear on that. The distinction is "openly displaying". So the act of drawing is not illegal, but doing so or displaying it in school is. The notebook is obviously public in school. It is not her copy of Mein Kampf that she keeps in her bag at all times.
      This is exactly why nazies who have illegal tattoos don't get jailed for having them, unless they display them. Albeit, you are considered not to be employable by the state, just by having one, according to a 2021 LAG Berlin-Brandenburg decision.
